Defamation by the government falls under “Civil Rights Violations.” The burden on winning such a case, however, is not based on whether you can show damage to your reputation. Per the Supreme Court, you must also show a loss of income. I think American Contingency can probably do that. They, obviously, weren’t working for free. If they can show that they lost work as a result of their damaged reputation, they are in a position to sue the FBI and the DOJ (their overseer). A clever plaintiff counsel would word the Summons and Complaint in such a way that the individual defendants would have their sovereign immunity negated as a non-covered and purposeful act. That way, the individuals pulling the strings at the FBI would be obligated to hire their own attorney(s) and pay for their own defense. That could get expensive.

Considering the documented relationship between Google and the FBI, it’s not much of a stretch to make some assumptions.
