One of my wife’s ancestors died at sea in the Royal Navy patrolling off West Africa trying to control the slave trade. It was her great grandfather’s brother. Apparently it is a thankless job just like the 360,000 Union soldiers who gave their lives fighting slavery in the Civil War. Slavery was almost universal until the British and Americans fought to stop it.
