Canada has coal reserves estimated at 7.255 billion tons,which is only one percent of world reserves. It’s plentiful,cheap,and particulates can be scrubbed out using the latest technology. Do we revert to a common sense solution or let people starve and freeze to death?

However if a winter of severe disruption of the euro-weenies is the price to pay for destruction of the insane zero-carbon policies and support of a Ukrainian grifter so-be-it.
Germany in particular is facing not just discomfort and disruption but potential industrial destruction, their future natural gas supply from Russia will never be adequate to support their industrial base.

The war and sanctions are being used as a scapegoat for those who panicked over Climate Change and Covid. Russia is only energy-powerful because the politicians and the chattering classes demonised coal and nuclear as energy sources.
The economic destruction of the Covid-panic has severely limited our ability to bring in effective alternatives in a timely manner.
Automatically opposing sanctions because people you don’t like brought them in… is letting those you distrust, determine your policy position. Thoughtful people don’t do this. Principled people don’t do this. Automatic opposition is the response of sheep whose only principle is “Not My Flock”.
The bottom line is that a smaller country wanting the autonomy to work out its own problems, has been invaded by a powerful neighbour with the same – or worse – problems. Everything that we know about the Laws of War and the Just War doctrine on which they are based, says that war is unjustified unless the harm it is claimed to prevent is greater than the harm caused by the war itself. What harm was there in Ukraine that was worse than the tens of thousands of lives lost and the rubbelling of cities?
As for our reaction, we are lying to ourselves if we claim that there are zero-risk, zero-cost options. We only have to look at Europe in the late 1930s to understand the refusing to stand against a militaristic and expansionist power only encourages them. Europe was terrified that standing against Hitler would create another war. So they folded their hands until they got one, too late to win it easily and cheaply.

But just as Rome fell to the barbarians not because the barbarians had a better system but because Roman govt was so corrupted and cruel to its citizens that they had given up functioning as a society. With no revenue or soldiers willing to fight, they offered no resistance. In fact, the citizenry in many cases welcomed the new rulers in the belief that they could not possibly be worse than the Roman Emperors.
