I remember the ads for Bedazzled when they ran in newspapers more than 50 years ago. Of course, Raquel Welch’s picture caught my attention.
I’m assuming that it was more for marketing purposes because being a British film, the cast had few names that North American audiences would recognize aside from, maybe, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. Perhaps the only reason they would have been known on this side of the pond at that time was because they were part of the comedy troupe Beyond the Fringe.
It’s an interesting twist to the Faust legend.
For those not familiar with BTF, here’s an example of their off-the-wall humour:
A great anecdote in regards to the filming of Marathon Man, released in 1976, is the often quoted exchange between its two stars, Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier concerning their different approaches to acting.”
I saw it several years ago and only because I’d heard so much about it. I wasn’t particularly impressed.
Hey B, got one for you. Trespass 1992. The film is the opposite to Invasion USA, minimal set, decent cast but without any A listers. simple somewhat predictable plot that makes sense, good story https://odysee.com/@fullmovies:7/Trespass-1992:7
Also note the first few scenes seem very grainy, that’s on purpose the quality is good afterwards.
Added to my “round tuit” list. I notice the cast includes Bill Paxton (who, by the time the movie was made, had become well-known, partly through his role in Aliens) and William Sadler (the chief baddie in Die Harder).
You give me one movie, you get two in return.
I’ve posted links to a number of spaghetti westerns, mentioning the names of a number of American actors who were in them. You can add James Coburn, Telly Savalas, and Rod Steiger to that list.
Coburn plays a disgraced Union Army officer near the end of the American Civil War who seeks to redeem himself by taking back the fort he surrendered to a Confederate commander (Savalas). He recruits a number of convicts for that task. The movie includes lots of bang-bang and ka-boom.
The plot probably sounds familiar, borrowing elements from The Dirty Dozen (with TS in the cast) and the earlier Major Dundee (JC playing an Army scout).
The better of the two is Duck, You Sucker (also known as A Fistful of Dynamite):
It’s directed by Sergio Leone with music by Ennio Morricone. Steiger plays a Mexican bandit who becomes a revolutionary (by accident, as I recall) and he crosses paths with an IRA bomber (Coburn). The two join up and, naturally, there’s lots of shooting and explosions. How Coburn’s character got to be in Mexico is told through a series of flashbacks, much like Leone did in Once Upon a Time in the West.
This one was a TCM Summer Under the Stars offering 2 or 3 years ago. It’s the better of the two, but it runs over 2-1/2 hours.
Cool, will look these up.
You’re welcome.
I enjoyed “Duck you Sucker” when it came out.
I remember the ads for it and wondering what it was about. I don’t recall it being as popular as Leone’s Dollars trilogy and that could be for a number of reasons.
One was that it was released when interest in western movies was declining, particularly after the controversy over movies such The Wild Bunch. Another was that its title (which was a line spoken by Coburn’s character early in the film) might have led people to think it was a comedy.
I might have to take another look at it some time.
It’s not a legend. Dr. Faustus does exist and he’s responsible for Covid.
That’s it, You have convinced me now. A squad (possibly Ukrainian) has surrendered somewhere, sometime, it is all over. Game over man, game over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsx2vdn7gpY
Apart for this, yesterday you have mentioned your oh so genuine concern with NAZZZZIS, have you maybe had a chance to look at Sparta Reconnaissance Battalion? They’re like the real NAZIs. Like really real. Have you maybe checked whose side they’re on? Hint: not Ukrainian.
That nicely dovetails with Jordan Peterson’s latest comments, the video of which are posted in the next thread. Our government really does consist of the intellectually bereft.
The ongoing insistence on ignoring objective reality is more frightening than anything I’ve seen in 60 years. Kudos on “bereft,” a wonderful word, and so appallingly appropriate.
Thanks. It occurred to me the word “bankrupt” would also have been appropriate–and accurate.

Dr Francis Christian was a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the U of Sask. in Saskatoon until he was fired for strongly speaking out over vaccines for children. Now he’s suing. Viva and Barnes had him and his lawyer on to discuss everything Covid related. This is not only a must watch but a must SHARE, especially to those in your life that have children or grandchildren. This is a serious subject. People need to go to JAIL.
I remember the story. Glad to get an update. The good Dr.’s ” crime” as I recall was notifying other doctors with the basic message that parents need to be better informed about the vaccinations. ” No thinking for yourself,” is the new rule in the medical profession.
Excellent!! As a former fan of Harper, I must say that is a scathing response, but deserved.
Harper is tip toeing around the media. Shame on him!
Take Harper over your current liberal PM.Peckford = Bleating she goat
We are trusting THESE people with slaying inflation and preventing a worldwide economic catastrophe….
“The Chinese government waged a decade-long campaign to undermine the U.S. Federal Reserve and cajole its employees into revealing sensitive information about economic policymaking through both recruitment and intimidation.”
“Chinese officials resorted to threats to exact desired information, at one point repeatedly detaining a Fed employee.”
“Several Fed employees were found to have ties to China’s central bank, while others maintained close contacts with university-centered talent-recruitment programs. Another U.S. employee corresponded with Chinese state-owned media.”
Surely, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell must be extremely concerned….
“Powell wrote. ‘In contrast, we are deeply troubled by what we believe to be the report’s unfair, unsubstantiated, and unverified insinuations about particular individual staff members.’ ”
LOL. Of course Powell isn’t concerned. Business as usual.
L – I can hardly wait for a video clip of firefighters with their own truck on fire.

Uh, we can’t come to your house fire today, we have to recharge the fire truck’s batteries.

I keep seeing stories about naming the latest disease emergency Monkey Pox is somehow racist. Maybe we should rename to something more descriptive, and more Western Oriented, since this disease was not a problem until it reached Western Europe and America?
