The great bureaucratic and administrative health care gamble of the last couple of years bears its ugly fruit. They were warned that this was going to be the inevitable outcome. They didn’t listen. And they still think they were right.

In the emergency department of Toronto’s Michael Garron Hospital more than 300 people a day seek medical help, an increase of 40 to 50 per cent from pre-pandemic times.

At St. Michael’s Hospital, the emergency department is seeing patients who are much sicker than those who sought care before COVID-19.

The result is that 3,000 more patients were admitted to the hospital in the last year compared to the year before COVID-19 hit.

The demand for beds is occurring at the same time as a critical shortage of registered nurses and a patient can’t be moved to a bed unless there’s a nurse that can take care of that patient. It’s a problem Snider said isn’t unique to any one institution.

  1. All the usual suspects followed by the usual solution, more money. Never the words ‘choice’ or ‘private’ without claiming the Americans are taking control. Never a comparison with British or French options. Never the admission that Governments can’t do everything.

  3. The healthcare system had already crashed well before Covid. Covid and the lockdowns simply highlighted what we all knew was there.

    Where mismanagement was imbecility, firing people and forced jabs was tyranny.

    It doesn’t help that we don’t train doctors and nurses. Allowing in foreign nurses is merely an electoral measure.

    But Canadians will still praise the system they feel is better than the American one. Sure, they are no doctors or nurses, or medicines available in the US and elsewhere but not in Canada, and, yes, people openly toyed with the idea of refusing medical care to people who refused to be jabbed and insisted that they were right in doing so but at least Canada isn’t the US!

    1. I notice that when I am on websites with a lot of international commenters that people from Canada, the UK and Australia LOVE to smugly reply to stories of Americans getting astronomical bills for emergency medical procedures.

      What they don’t know, or ignore, is that:

      – a huge majority of Americans have health insurance through their employer or from the government through Medicare/Medicaid, and pay out of pocket nowhere near the numbers in the story for an emergency room visit.

      -a big reason the people without health insurance DO get charged so much for emergency room visits is due to the large numbers of illegal aliens who cannot be turned away by the emergency room but will never pay a penny for the services.

      1. My out-of-pocket medical expenses here (Wyoming) with a good healthcare insurance plan, run about $4,000 a year, and that includes dental and vision care. Never have to wait for appointments, heck, its harder to get my truck serviced than it is to see one of my physicians.

    1. No one can work in the Health Care system. There may be some exceptions, but they are not common. Here was the original announcement:

      As to whether the health care system is ailing because of increased demand due to COVID vaccination adverse events, it is now acknowledged that 5 out of 6 people admitted with COVID symptoms have been vaccinated per Ontario data. And there is an increase in all cause mortality across the world of about 40% (given actuarial data from insurance companies) which also implies an increase in pre-mortality hospitalizations as a matter of course.

  6. My wife and I are double vaxed(wont be getting boosters due to reactions) We are late 70’s. Daughter is unvaxed but lives with us.
    A while ago she suggested we take ivermectin as she felt she had all the symptoms of covid. We all took a weeks treatment of ivermectin(we took the horse paste although we also have a stock on oral human ivermectin from India).The horse paste is way cheaper. I had minor flu like symptoms for a few days and wife had a headache for a day.

The wording of this study and the method seem to be pre-set to make ivermectin fail at “reventing hospitalisation”. They don’t start treatment until there’s a week of symptoms? Lame.

    3. I am in my late 50s husband early 70s. We had Covid in April. We are un vaxxed. He was feeling very achy, gave him ivm. He never missed a day of going out to work and thinks the ivm took away his aches. After three doses he was back to normal. Saved his life? Probably not but maybe made the symptoms less.

        1. The nutraceutical regimen isn’t a preventative, rather, it strengthens the immune system. My mix has that plus more.
          Omicron was a nothing burger, was all good at +2 days, the only real symptom was scratchy throat. No fever. No aches. Just temp loss of smell and taste.
          But my triple vaxxed friends were SICK for 2 weeks, and they’re almost half my age.

        2. You seem a bit confused. The vaxes are not stopping Covid. It was never confirmed that they would do so. Also, for a certain percentage of people, the vaxes cause serious side effects requiring medical attdntion. There is also concern about their weakening the immune system. This is looking more and more likely, as we see more and more people requiring medical attention. ER visits are way up.

  15. My son who is off work until at least August recovering from his brain surgery after his probably vaccine induced switch from benign to malignant brain tumour. (They thing they got it all and the path report was good.) So he can’t get his paperwork completed because of no one in the human resources office getting around to it so he called his union rep.

    His rep told him that 30% of staff refused the vax initially. The hospital told them they had to get vaxxed of be fired. 20% quit. Later on, faced with a chronic staff shortage, they changed that to you could work if you have a clean COVID test in the last 72 hours. Takes 48-72 hours to get a COVID test result back so all the people who didn’t get vaxxed could only get half time hours so a bunch of the 10% unvaxxed quit and got jobs elsewhere. Here’s the kicker.

    Of those remaining vaccinated staff, 20% of the vaccinated had adverse reactions requiring they take extended time off of a month of more (peri and myocarditis being the most common) and 5% are either now on permanent disability and will never work again or they are dead.

    I think we know the cause of all these shortages of workers now.

      “We have had higher staff turnover than ever before. We had years with 2-4 new hires for the full year. Now we are hiring for some position every week it feels. And our ED retiring was a surprise to us all and she was burned out. We had staff working from home and complaining, moved some into hybrid and others back full time this spring and we have heard every excuse as to why they should not have to return. I have moved into the co-executive director position until a new ED is in place. My job was at capacity before this so it has been extremely challenging but I am also taking it as a learning experience. “
