China will project power along their northeast border with Russia and extract some pretty major resource concessions with russias military depleted starting now.

This is a long game play. It’s about crippling Russia demographically and technologically over the long term. There are no short game winners here. Ukraine has no value to the west.

The Ukrainians are slowly gaining ground on the 3 active fronts Kharkiv, Sevorodonetsk, and Kherson. They have ground up all the Russian infantry. Russia has likely had 30,000 dead and 60,000 or more wounded. The Russian replacements are untrained conscripted cannon fodder from the Donetsk and Luhansk Republics, Chechens, assorted Mongols, and old men. Sevorodonetsk is a meat grinder that the Ukrainians lured the Russians into. The Kharkiv front collapsed for the Russians as they pulled out troops for Sevorodonetsk The Kherson front is now collapsing for the same reason. The Ukraine has close to a million troops and they are getting better trained, experienced, and equipped each day. This ain’t going to end pretty.

Russian military doctrine is based on the old Soviet doctrine: quantity over quality. The objective is to overwhelm the enemy with so many troops, despite your own casualties, that they will be forced into a tactical withdrawal, over and over again. Before you know it, the Russians have the territory they want. This is how the Red Army pushed back the Germans.
Other than the first month the Russians seem to be attacking backward. The Russians have no more troops to grind up. They have avoided using Russian conscripts. That would likely create a mother’s rebellion like the one that ended their Afghanistan war. Putin is pooched. He has no way out. He’s waiting around to be Ceaușescued.
