  2. I’m curious how DNA can be used for this purpose. Can anyone explain?

    1. DNA can be extracted from the bones of the skeleton. The DNA can reveal the ethnicity of the dearly departed. If the indians will cooperate,, they can offer a sample of their DNA. Ideally a match can be obtained to establish what family the dead kid belonged to. I am NOT a forensic anthropologist so better check with the experts.

      2. Oh yeah, that’s if they find any bones at all… these are most likely tree roots.

      3. First one actually needs a body. Then that body cannot be degraded to the point where DNA is no longer available. So far no bodies.

    Next we need to hire some consultants to develop a DNA database, so we can store the DNA results. Then we have to re-write the database in the Tk’emlups language.

    Of course we need to pay some elders consulting fees to advise the database developers, and to conduct sacred purifying ceremonies to sanctify the database.

    This could take upwards of 10 years.

    Then all the Tk’emlups nation will refuse to allow DNA samples to be collected. We are scared the DNA results will show we came to North America from N. Korea.

  7. Give me a week and I’ll excavate a dozen graves with toothbrushes, constant real-time video streaming, with measured grids and constant archeologist supervision. An excavation manager will be assigned to each “suspected gravesite” who will create a detailed written record of the excavation.

  13. Here’s how a statistician on a budget would approach this.

    1. Choose 20 of the 200 sites at random.
    2. Exhume those sites.

    If no or a few of the 20 sites prove to be indigenous child graves then we may safely assume that the story of “mass child graves” is overblown or false.

    Otherwise invest in the money to dig up all 200 sites so we can accurately know the truth.

  14. I worked at a power plant next to an Indian Reservation. The empty power company and county-owned land around the plant had about a dozen small chain link fenced plots/ areas. One of the senior engineers told me they were areas where they suspected Native American human remains may exist.

    Now that the tribe has made billions from Casino Gambling, I wonder if they ever did any archaeological work on the plots?

    It was a community cemetery for decades before the school was built.
