  1. A desperation move that will hit the taxpayer hard. The politicians are just hoping that the public won’t notice. Expect an announcement about wealthy corporations paying their fair share to follow, another variation on “Eat the Rich”.

    1. I got nuthin. There is no way the people are going to survive the idiocy of the morons they voted for. Is that not irony?

      1. Hint here: No matter what the ‘markets’ do…
Keep a look out at the price of oil.
That will give you a bit of a hint to the Propaganda politicians and media put out.
That will give you some clues to the price of Fossil Fuels are going and so far, it’s still going up.
The politicians could only make things worse by what they are imposing.

  2. That is a stupid, stupid, stupid move. Gas prices are bid up because of demand exceeding supply and they are going to throw a tax on top of that. Do they seriously think they can isolate the British market from the world?

  3. Stupid and evil? Just evil? Just stupid? Who can tell anymore, but they all need to be fired.

    1. Firing really isn’t enough.
“It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”
      ~ Thomas Sowell

      1. Thomas Sowell is intellectually superior to the so called thinkers of our time.

Why he is not popular in the mainstream, so to say, is because his ideas cut down the wilted socialists that can not complete with the solid thinking with Sowell. As another republican used to say, he has to keep half of his brain tied behind his back, just to make it fair.

        1. Hell man, I am intellectually superior to most so called thinkers of “our” time. And s***, that is not bragging, it shows how inferior they really are. Sowell was/is a brilliant man who has been ignored by the “elite” , the elite being the terminally stupid.

          1. Wish the media and bureaucrats would use Sowell’s scale for political sources.

“The right side is the rights of the individual ending in chaos and anarchy. The left side is the power of the state. All the isms belong here, communism, Nazism, socialism ending in totalitarianism.”

Pretty simple yet the media will call a person a nazi and a right winger.

  4. I don’t suppose oil and gas companies will produce less oil and gas in response or defer/delay exploration, expansion etc.

Modern civilization is cursed with having the stupidest leadership in generations.

      1. Indeed, Bojo is just the tip of the iceberg. UK was lost a long time ago, he was nothing but false hope. Controlled opposition? Appears so.

He was elected with great expectations, but, appears to be just another in a long list of CINOs, OFool, Drug Fraud, Kenney, etc.

    1. One is either to believe that they are that stupid or that they intend the result of further strangulation of oil and gas. The result is the same.

  5. “Stupid and evil? Just evil? Just stupid? Who can tell anymore, but they all need to be fired.”

This should be “Comment Of The Year”.

  6. The link says that they are using the tax on supply to give to consumers to subsidize more demand. Stupid squared.
Brought in by a “Conservative” government.

    1. Boris is not a conservative. You can tell by his hair style. Deliberately having your hair look like you just walked out of a wind tunnel is an affectation that no conservative would adopt. He’s a socialist NWO kind of guy.

  7. What the hell is happening to that place.
Did not the majority public vote for conservatives?

    1. Vito, here in the UK, ALL of the mainstream parties and most of the smaller ones are to all intents and purposes, the same, and it has been that way for thirty years. They are all Left wing.
MP’s are mostly political hacks (yes men) who were previously Union activists/ Public sector workers / actors who have never had a proper job or run a business and are therefore financially illiterate and have no understanding of how ANY business works. Around half of them have criminal convictions.
All believe the man made climate change bullshit and are willing to sacrifice every last man, woman and child on the altar of net zero, all want more tax to splurge on their friends / pet projects, all want more immigration* (while some say they are against it their actions demonstrate the opposite), all say they want freedom of speech whilst at the same time, shutting down any opposing views by calling it ‘Hate Speech’. WE never voted for any of this.

      * Immigration – the last time a political party put “we will stop mass immigration” into their election manifesto was the Tories in 1970. They got elected. AFAIK, no one has done it since – it’s racist you see…..

  8. WEF et al are running things throughout the world – you cant build back better until you collapse the current system.
None of it is accidental. None.

  9. This will …

    1. Dramatically raise the price of ALL fossil fuel energy
    2. Reduce supply
    3. Dramatically increase inflation … of ALL products
    4. Create deep, dark, energy poverty all the way through the middle classes

    Inotherwords … “Mission Accomplished”

Yes, the majority of our population of truly ignorant people who live in a shallow pool of emotions and feelings such as … “yeah! fossil fuels are icky”. As always … masses of truly stupid people … voting for EVIL people … are very dangerous.

  10. This proves the oxymoron Honest Politician. If the mom wasn’t running a close second things might improve.

  11. Hey! I just heard that already high energy prices in the UK will be jumping another 25%!

  12. Britain has trillions of cubic meters of gas they won’t use.
    That’s evil for the stupid.

  13. “the UK is even going one step stupider: they play to use the money taken by this tax and give it to “customers” so they can better afford to pay the high prices. so, not only are they attenuating supply response, they are subsidizing consumption at the same time.”

welcome to the Justin Trudeau school of taxation, where he enacts opaque and unknowable taxes upon everyone, and then returns a pittance in the hope that people will think “free government money” and be happier while not noticing how much more expensive everything is. There is also a variance where they split your pittance into subpittances and give them back to you either monthly or quarterly. Either way, you are poorer and the government has gotten it’s largess

  14. Most “Energy Producers” are public companies the majority of whose shares are held by pension funds.

Too bad for the old folks.

  15. How about applying this to all the green energy providers with guaranteed contracts with priority access to the grid and paying rates for the wholesale power that are a multiple of the retail rate. You know, the ones that have driven up electricity costs well before there was any supply issues or conflict affecting energy.

  16. Pay to get things.

    Or..

You make it sure that crazy profits are to be had if you goldrush right now.

    Harness greed and profit.

The huge profits to be had will be miniscule compared to the benefits of the repair and recovery of the economy.

Oh well. Maybe a 5 year plan …..

  17. Less money will go back into the ground. Lucky they (UK) don’t have an oil & gas shortage.

    1. That’ll learn ’em in the UK not to ban fracking, fracking idiots.

  18. “Green” energy, even when heavily subsidized, is expensive. Profits are slim.

By contrast, fossil fuels pay the subsidies on “green” energy and still make a profit. And when supplies of fossil fuels are short and the law of supply and demand causes prices to rise and they naturally make more.

Governments can’t stand this, they’re trying to make fossil fuels go away, make suppliers go broke. So now they’ll try taxing them out of existence.

    1. I disagree profits are healthy; in reality they are the subsidies. In a natural market “green energy” is not even efficient, let alone profitable.

  19. Catitude is just depressing in that article. All true but depressing.

  20. If only there was some sort of motorised procession of multi-ton vehicles that could converge on the country’s capital.

  21. On Profits?

Not deep dived into this but as I understand it shareholders EXPECT profits.

The other side is that ‘profits’ and managing ‘profits’ is why they invented accountants.

Either way can’t see this ending well.
