I’d just like to point out that this particular atrocity would not have been possible without the strict “shelter-in-place” and “gun-free-zone” policies used in American schools. Taken together, the net result is the schools gather all the kids in one place and guarantee they have no defense. It’s like an all-you-can-shoot buffet for the determined murderer. That’s what happened in Texas.
If they had no plan at all and the kids all ran out, trampling each other in complete panic, it would have worked better. Then the shooter only kills the slowest ones.

The common factor in school shootings is mental illness and medication thereof. These are seriously effed up kids who get inadequate help. The Parkland School shooter was called the “school shooter” by classmates. Everyone knew what was coming except the people in charge. The kid in the current shooting was a kid with mental health issues. This shooting should have been a surprise to no-one.
Meanwhile the FBI is busy investigating parents who use incorrect pronouns.

Nope. Mental illness is a -constant-, not a variable. You always have X% of mentally ill 18 year olds. You don’t always have perfect conditions for maximum carnage when one of them pops. Conditions make the difference.

It is a freaking FANTASY to suggest that any police service could predict one of these. Just as it is a fantasy to suggest that gun control could keep one of these shooters from having a weapon. In Japan guns are basically impossible to get, so fruitcakes use knives, poison, fires, etc. Check out the fire at Tokyo Animation some time. And people still get shot in Japan. Just less often.
