    2. Poor girl. She took the route where there’s no turning back.–it used to be said that her choice was a permanent solution for a temporary problem.

      But, were her problems temporary? Lately things don’t look too promising –here or anywhere.

    2. How much longer will it be before the Canadian government MANDATES euthanasia based on certain criteria, such as severity of treatment required in hospital, or even something basic as advanced age?
      I mean… didn’t Covid expose a problem with our LTC facilities? I can’t imagine it taking much arm twisting to have governments in this God-forsaken country to give up the ghost on life altogether. Already, I’m seeing resentment among the young towards their elders.
      I can see myself living long enough to see that dark day coming. I may even become a victim.

        1. Sorry. Something happened to the website when I tried to post. When my post didn’t appear right away, I tried to post again… and again, and again… I couldn’t post or read any comments after that, so I gave up after the third attempt.

  10. I just finished watching Puppet on a Chain:

    It’s based on the Alistair MacLean novel. It’s an average drug-smuggling movie with the only part that’s remotely interesting was the boat chase near the end. (I’m sure that was filched by the producers of the Bond movie Live and Let Die.) The ending is predictable.

    I read a lot of his books when I was in high school, though I’ve forgotten most of them. After Ice Station Zebra, which I liked but was made into a terrible film, I thought much of what he wrote was trash. He was popular at the time–I’m sure he could have written a grocery list and some Hollywood studio would have wanted to turn it into a movie. But, his work became dull and uninteresting and I gave up after reading that rubbish Bear Island (the movie was even worse).

    There are a few other movies based on his books on YouTube. I’ve bookmarked some of them and I’ll take a look at them over the next few days or weeks.

    1. I read most of his books decades ago, Puppet on a Chain is probably MacLean’s most macabre book. I like his war stories Force 10 From Navaron and Where Eagles Dare both were adopted for fun films. Other good books that I remember were Caravan to Vaccares and The Golden Rendezvous. But probably my all time favorite was the western novel: Breakheart Pass.

      Why I stopped reading his books years ago.

      1. Eventually, his books had the same format, the same sort of plot but with different names and locations, and different crimes. Usually, there’s the “nice hair” hero. Then there’s the hot babe who may or may not be on his side. And, when all else fails, throw in a few leftover Nazis bent on taking over the world, which is what finally ruined Bear Island for me.

    A male friend has just had prostate surgery.

    He said to the nurse who was explaining the procedure “How in the hell do you get enough room?”

    The answer was “Modern technology”.

    Might be a very large stretch needed for it to be able to cater for that birth idea as –

    A female friend described giving birth to a large baby as “Like shitting a watermelon”

    Now the WHO says that it wasn’t 5 million dead from covid, it’s 15 million.
    And again, was the 5 million number misinformation?
