Agree, the original was well made, the remake was awful. I especially like Hardy Krüger in the original one.

Robert Aldrich made a number of movies about people in dire situations, including Vera Cruz (Burt Lancaster and Gary Cooper), Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (Bette Davis and Joan Crawford), The Dirty Dozen (Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, and Charles Bronson), and The Longest Yard (Burt Reynolds and Eddie Albert).

While on the subject of aviation, it’s just over 80 years since the Doolittle Raid. Right now, I’m watching this documentary about it:

Doolittle also did something very important in Europe when he took charge of the 8th air force. He changed 8th fighter command’s mission from “bringing back the bombers” (or something to that effect) to “destroy the Luftwaffe”. He allowed increasing numbers of fighters to roam ahead of the bombers to find Luftwaffe fighter assembly areas and hit the Germans before they got to the bombers. Then strafe everything on the way back. The hunters became the hunted. This coincided with the introduction of the Mustang (the plane the Germans hated the most, according to many Germans aces). In a few months he broke the back of the German fighter arm. He won air superiority over the european theater, making possible D-Day and air dominance afterwards. The Luftwaffe was still dangerous, but unable to stop the allies afterwards.
With regards to Some Like It Hot (easily the funniest English-language movie ever made), I heard that Marilyn Monroe was difficult to deal with at times. It wasn’t the first film she made under Billy Wilder’s direction. Four years earlier, he directed her in The Seven Year Itch and I think her problems were apparent even then.
There was a reason why the movie was in black and white. It was originally supposed to be made in colour, but Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon didn’t look as convincing in drag due to their makeup.
I believe I heard that some Rorke’s Drift artifacts had been used in the making of Zulu. I don’t recall any of them being the actual medals. Great movie!

It’s really incredible to even conceive that someone who has not been elected to any public office, can somehow rise to become president of the U.S.
That’s when it will become official. The U.S. would no longer be a functioning democracy (‘scuse me… a functioning “republic”), and would become a dictatorship at that point.

Do I have to repeat myself? Gerald Ford was elected as Nixon’s Vice President. In this scenario, Hillary or Obama would not have been elected anything anywhere, and O-bam-bam had already used up his two terms.
Btw… the country also survived Jimmy Carter, and FDR, although barely.
Tricky part is that any nominee for VP has to get approved by a 50-50 Senate, and a vote for a replacement VP is the one vote where the VP can’t break a tie. Hillary or Obama? Not a chance. (Unless you read Section 2 of A25 to mean that a vote is done in a joint session. But precedent dictates separate votes in each house.)
In any event, what happens if they try and invoke Section 4 of A25 when there is no VP is unknown constitutional territory. If Biden dies or resigns, then Pelosi would probably become President under existing law, but that law doesn’t apply to a declaration under A25.

In a tied House vote it is certainly worth considering what the parameters are concerning the ascention of power should something incapacitate any of the levels of power. The market has historically been turbulent at this time of year. There’s a reason why the saying goes “Sell in May and go away.”
At the same time, the markets have risen significantly in recent months and, so, we’re overdue for a correction. Investors are taking profits. In addition, it’s the end of the taxation year, as well as the end of the month, times when there’s a lot of action. Dividends are often paid around month’s end and, once that happens, investors sometimes sell.
There’s a lot to be said for general market sentiment. Musk’s move on Twitter shocked a few investors. Jerome Powell’s hinting at increases in interest rates. Biden can’t tie his own shoelaces any more.
That’s not to say that thing’s won’t go kablooie–they still can. It’s just that I’ve seen this sort of thing several times before and I’m not about to jump ship. There’s not a lot I can do about it under these circumstances except hold my hose and hang on.

4 blacks robbed the downtown Shoppers Drug mart a few days ago. Here I thought we were safe from crime in old Burlington. I go by this pharmacy on my way to the gym. As one poster noted, you don’t think the cops would notice a car with a hanging licence plate and one taillight out. Be careful out there.
My friend responded. 2 of my grandkids work at Shoppers. They get robbed all the time. My son and I were there yesterday, we watched a guy stuffing stuff up his sleeves and inside his jacket in the toothbrush aisle. I think electric toothbrushes and replacement heads. He walked out before we could alert staff.. crazy!
This is happening everywhere and will only increase as little is done about this type of crime.

My friend responded. 2 of my grandkids work at Shoppers. They get robbed all the time. My son and I were there yesterday, we watched a guy stuffing stuff up his sleeves and inside his jacket in the toothbrush aisle. I think electric toothbrushes and replacement heads. He walked out before we could alert staff.. crazy!
This is happening everywhere and will only increase as little is done about this type of crime.
I’ve watched the diversity blatantly robbing my local LCBO of Grey Goose vodka and walking out with a hockey bag full. Nothing the staff can do about it, either. Makes my blood boil and it doesn’t do much for raising my esteem of diverse people.
