It is now illegal to use a math test to make sure that math teachers know the material they would be teaching.
On Seattle’s woke, broke public transport; the steep downward trajectory of Swedish schooling; and, quoted above, on super-progressive Ontario, where “diversity” trumps standards.
So, unless you have your IPad or cell phone, your totally stupid.
And useless to a future employer.
Hmmm…mind you, they wouldn’t have a clue what they’re being paid in…or how much…
I’ve often said hire them for 40 hours/week at $20/hour and at the end of the week pay them $400………
Math, who needs it?
The Quebec Bridge Collapse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4DTMe0huXM
The brunt of the blame, however, was placed on the shoulders of Theodore Cooper, who had committed grave errors in design and his calculation of loads. There was criticism of the bridge company for putting profit above safety and for engineers who neglected their professional and moral duties.
And, no, the first iron rings for Canadian engineering graduates weren’t made from the leftover structural members. That was an urban legend which was well-entrenched when I first started wearing mine nearly 45 years ago.
No Worries Mate, failing is passing by other means according to the Alberta HRC.
Remember Math needs to be decolonized and diversified.
Question: 2+2 = What?

I read about the case. I wasn’t surprised at the outcome.
Currently, teachers are an obstacle to be overcome. They provide many convenient excuses on why you should not achieve. After I realized that I am the one teaching me mathematics, things got better. I also discovered ‘other resources’, like the library.
I can appreciate why the folks is pissed off that the hired hands are not very handy. If Mom and Dad really want young Wilbur to be literate, they will mentor, they will homeschool, they will private school.
Precisely.
Kids I see who succeed have parents who put in the time and resources to do so.
Schools are puppy-mills.
The abject lack of standards in education simply ensures that the children of the wealthy and those genuinely interested in having their children educated will significantly outperform the ruck. The keeners will home school, send their children to private or charter schools, hire tutors or even send their children abroad for their education. When “public education” becomes effectively no education, those interested in having their children educated will seek private alternatives. The remainder will flounder, their children eventually to be dominated and controlled by the children of those with the interest and resources to secure good educations for their children. As with most things socialist the greatest disparities between the wealthy and the poor exist within socialist systems not outside them.
SO only 70% of the MPT is about math, and 30% of it is about “Pedagogy”… with a requirement of 70% in each section to pass.
what % failed the math portion, versus the “Pedagogy” portion?
you can read all about it here: https://mathproficiencytest.ca/docs/MPT_Assessment_Blueprint_EN_20191127b.pdf
and the ruling can be found here: https://www.otffeo.on.ca/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/12/2021-12-16-OTCC-v-Ontario-FINAL-signed-by-all.pdf
Not saying it was a deliberate long term plan, but a population that is basically numerically illiterate can lack the basic ability to self check the obvious.
If the Government was to tell them that 1.5m was an important distance the population would believe them, cause the Government was backed by Experts.
If the Government was to them tell them that 1 person per 2 sq m was also important then the population would believe them, cause the Government was backed by Experts.
If the Government was to tell them that both numbers should be used together, then the population would then go “Hang on. These are completely different numbers that in context cannot be used together. If I keep 1 per 2 sq then the clearance between me and the next person is now 0.85m, so that 1.5m number can no longer be valid, cause, well, MATHS, and to suggest otherwise would be to imply that the government has been pulling these numbers out of their bum”…. actually no. They would nod because most people have next to know ability to apply maths to day to day situations.
Not saying it was a deliberate long term play, but are suggesting our ‘Expert’ political types wouldn’t have gotten away with such bollocks if more people could remember how to calculate a square root.
