  1. I don’t blame the Native Community wanting more money when vibrant communities are ghost towns trying to attract tourists but really have nothing to offer that you can’t get in hundreds of other communities without the great travel expenses.
    In Ontario, James Bay which hosts the communities of Moosenee and Moose Factory is dead quiet with only the one tourist, which was the documentary person. Every place was a little run down and somewhat clean but no people out. Dead quiet.
    Only a single restaurant open and a Hotel that was being built.
    Back when I visited in the late 1970’s, it was rip roaring with tourists and people everywhere all happy and having a good time.
    To see this communities change is quite telling in how much our politicians have destroyed Canada into what it is today.
    Everything in that communities still need everything imported by train as not a single industry survived.
    The traditional meal was a bit disgusting with the goose wrapped in blood but still. He was the only tourist to visit.
    Wohoo, Cochrane has some Polar Bears that they tried to make into an attraction. Skidoo museum is their as well.
    They still have to abide by the Provincial Regulations for the city’s but don’t have the population to afford the provisions of government regulations.

    It’s quite disturbing to see once a vibrant and happy community reduced to a ghost town of where is everybody.
    Must be watching their televisions as no one was out of their shacks.

    In all of the 70 some replies on yesterdays SciFi thread…no one mentioned DUNE, the ~20+ or so books..?? Likely the ULTIMATE Sci-Fi story ever told..??

    Sooprised the hell outa me..!

    The 6 Prequels written by Herberts son are simply excellent and lay the groundwork for DUNE itself…IMO….as are the 3 or 4 standalones he wrote as well.

    The latest partial film iteration of the story was Excellent… I truly hope there is more to come. That someone would do a “Game of Thrones” type series…?? Would take 15-20 years worth of Episodes I’m thinking and a Trillion $$…

    1. Are you kidding? Brian Herbert’s books are a pale imitation of his father’s! Semi-readable forgettable dreck.
      As for the latest movie, well it was visually impressive. I wasn’t impressed with the woke switch of Kynes’ gender (and possibly race). What purpose did that serve? So he could make Chani, Stilgar’s daughter? So what? That doesn’t improve/advance the story any! Also Villeneuve fell into the trap that a great many movie makers do of assuming that the audience is dumb and that they need to have things explained to them. Frank didn’t do that. The story STARTED with the visit of the reverend mother. No explanation, just boom, here’s the story. Any explanations needed were subtly stitched into the narrative as it unfolded. THAT’S how you tell a compelling story. Villeneuve’s Dune: 3/5 stars, mostly for it’s appearance and a decent score. Points deducted for wokeness and not respecting the intelligence of the audience (I mean c’mon! It’s DUNE FFS! Who do you think is going to be watching??)

        I find the prequels to be fine reading and go along way to explaining and creating the background for Dune itself.

        I found the stories of Serena, Norma Cenva, Ishmael, Vorian, Gilbertus, VanKee, Raquella & others et all, to be well done…including how the spacing Guild came about, how the Sisters evolved, the ~1500 yr war against the Cymeks, Titans & AI Machines….and all of it intertwined with the spice.
        It’s all GOOD READING….IMO

        I suppose for a purist, its all blasphemy…

      2. The original book was very good. All the others were … meh. The same with Card’s Ender’s Game. Good book. The sequels did nothing for me and the movie sucked. I’d love to see someone try to make The Foundation trilogy into a movie. That would take some doing.
