    1. Appalling man— in his 20’s he was promoted as an enthusiastic protege of Brian “cash-in-brownpaper-bags” Mulroney, then subsequently led an exceptionally corrupt Quebec government. As Premier, the ethical bar he set was so low you needed ground excavation equipment not to clear it. Now we hear all the spin and lies on his paid work for Huawei and the Chinese Communist Party. When are these recycled old political whores going to realize that if they want to make money after politics, then make money — but have the good graces to stay out of our faces and understand that all of your ‘dealings’ now make you totally unfit for public office.         1. I think Gomery summed up the culture of corruption of the Liberal Party in Adscam quite well and I think it still holds even truer today. But that doesn’t let Mulroney off the hook. The brown paper bag from Karl Heinz Schreiber is not an urban myth. Mulroney was (and suspect still is) horribly corrupt — and my point was Charest was an enthusiastic apprentice and his time as Premier shows he learned very well. He has no credibility to even be thinking of another stab at public office at this point.

      I voted PPC last time to get rid of O’Toole…if another Red Tory is chosen I will do the same again.

  13. For the last couple of years Polieve has been the face of the party while the Tool hid in plain sight. Funny how as soon a there is a wiff of power to be gained, the cockroaches come out of the woodwork but I guess one cannot expect much more from career politicians. This leadership vote could be the tipping point for both the “conservatives” and the Peoples Party.

  14. I had a discussion with a Vancouver friend about the CPC race. He strongly believes that Charest is the only candidate that the legacy media and thus the Canadian voters will find palatable. While I acknowledge that this may be true, it’s also the source of the problem and why the party ended up with Erin Da Toole.

    Electing a Controlled Opposition Liberal-Lite CINO like Charest is what has turned Canada into Canuckistan. It needs to stop.

I will only vote for somebody who is at least smart enough to read the statements by Drs. Richard Lindzen formerly of MIT and Judith Curry formerly of GIT. I pointed that out to a believer and told me they didn’t have enough time to read their statements which would not have taken 30 minutes.

    Those are the folks at the top of the ‘Conservative’ Party of Canada these days. I’m not knocking the membership, just pointing out the reality.

  22. Pierre will get my vote in the election if he becomes the leader of the CPC. Leslyn Lewis also seems good, but I don’t think she’s the fighter that Pierre is, and I believe her French is weak (not that I care, but you know…). I am willing to give somewhat of a pass on the Covid mess, and lack of opposition – I don’t know what you’d have had to do to make yourself heard against the Liberals, the NDP, Public Health, the bought and paid for media (that’s probably the worst). Also especially when you have a leader that is not saying anything useful at all – first Sheer, and then O’Toole.

    If the CPC makes the colossal mistake of electing Charest, or Brown, I will vote PPC, because I believe the CPC have no chance anyway with either of those two. But I hate to see Conservatives fail to keep their eye on the prize, time and time again shoot themselves in the foot, be all divisive, and thereby let the slime continue to rule over us. It will be the ruin of this country. We cannot let the average disengaged Canadian with a sense of entitlement off the hook, of course.

    However, I think we all know that PPC cannot form a gov’t, and even if they got a few seats, it wouldn’t make much difference with another Liberal government after the next election (which is a depressingly long time away, with the disgusting unity we have between Trudeau and Singh). So I will fight one more time for the Conservatives – but the leader makes all the difference.

    At the same time, I’m trying to work provincially (Alberta) for new leadership who will get going on that firewall stuff we’ve been promised for so long (although that sounds like I’m important! I’m not – just one vote). I do believe separation may be in the future, but at this point, for most people, I don’t see the support for that.

    1. The leader makes no difference. The “establishment” are behind both parties, the same banks, law firms, communications firms, etc. With the CPC it will be the policies of the Laurentian un “elite”. The CPC needs to become populist, ala the MAGA Republicans. They are proof it can be done, Trump controls the Repubs now, the uniparty squishes are on the run. It would take a leader of that stature to get it done, but it would be the only hope, and sadly so far beyond the imagination of tall poppy cutting Canadians, which is why we will keep circling the drain.

  23. Charest is the Demarais candidate. Power Corporation – they have a horse in every race. Meddling in the CPC in the event that voters turn on the Bong. It’ll happen.

    I suspect the Laurentiens made Charest an offer he couldn’t refuse. It’s a clever plot. Charest can make a case to the average voter that he is in fact a conservative. The Power boys give him the money he needs to run a well oiled campaign. The compliant media will play along and produce copy trumpeting Charest’s incredible ability to ‘fund raise’. Stories on Charest’s conservative bona fides will abound.

    There will be No stories about the corruption scandals that dogged Charest throughout his career. His connections to the quebek construction industry. Nothing about his addiction to Huawei and chicom money. It wouldn’t surprise if the chicoms are also behind this candidacy as well.

    If their plan succeeds, their boy wins. He may even become prime minister which will be a huge win-win for his backers and a horrid loss for Canada (except quebek). If unsuccessful he will have negotiated a nice soft exit landing, complete with sinecure. Oh, and if he doesn’t win, he won’t have to run to become a conservative MP. That’s just how committed he is.

    So there you have it, Jean Charest – candidate for CPC leadership. He’s no conservative and He’s in it for himself.
