I find it amusing that one of the alleged rationales for opening the bridge again is the putative chip shortage experienced by auto manufacturers. How ever that all started way back in 2020:
Per the tech republic:
“A shortage in the supply of semiconductors first hit the automotive industry during the COVID-19 pandemic and has had a cascading effect, causing global disruption. The shortage can be traced back to the first half of 2020, when overall consumer demand for cars declined during the lockdown. This forced chip manufacturers to shift their focus to other areas, such as computer equipment and mobile devices, which spiked in demand with more people working remotely.”
Funny how the same truckers who shouldn’t have fuel; are licensed to fill up your gas stations to keep the economy moving! 🙂
Ha, ha, ha, ….

They screwed up our lives for 2 years for no reason. Worse still when it was completely clear lockdowns don’t work they doubled down and are still at it.
Police are handing out fliers, saying they will begin enforcing injunction at midnight…
… when the CBC has long gone home …
Supposedly even some in Trudeau’s cabinet have turned.
Thanks, Robert. Who is this person? Journalist, politician, so-called academic?
Looks like a no body to be honest. Just another Twit Troll who uses the auspol hash tag and thinks they are being edgy.
“Oooo!!! Look at me! I used AusPol in my hashtag. ScoMo better answer me or I know he is SCARED!!!”
Also, HillBillies? Who in Australia uses that unironically?
I hope we learn from this, how badly deceived we are by the politicians we have elected. The leaders of government are melting down, because they have lost control of their subjects. What they (and many of us, as well) fail to recognize is that we are not their subjects, and under the political systems of Canada and the US are never supposed to be their compliant subjects.
Citizens are now in charge, and these tyrannical politicians are terrified. Its a challenge they never thought they would face; and, in Trudeau’s case, he’s too blindingly ignorant to realize that the entire Western World sees the citizens as far more legitimate actors in this disagreement than is he.
On the US side of the border, his arrogance and ignorance is exactly mimicked by ice-faced Gretchen the Grouch Whitmer.
One of the things I have heard around in the press is how we need new ethics to deal with the pandemic. My profession is human genetics. We have a set of ethics that arose from once being the worst most unethical group there was pushing eugenics. It was because of those times we fell into evil that humanity created ethical standards like the Nuremberg Code. You can’t change ethics. You can’t create new ethics at a whim. There is either ethical behaviour or there is unethical behaviour. What has been done to us is unethical and unjustifiable. And this battle is not over yet. Our rights have not been restored and there is no mechanism in place to make sure it can’t happen again. And no one has been brought to trial and punished.
Very well stated, Natalie. The existence of a “code” does not magically transform the nature of those who are truly evil.
We need “new ethics”? Is that anything like “the new normal” … ?
Add to that, preliminary crime stats indicate crime is down in the downtown area. The police chief should be fired and replaced with one of the convoy organizers as they seem capable of doing a better job. Working with the protestors would have developed a solution that would minimize disruption and allowed the convoy to make its point.
The mayor should remember that taxes from the ‘regions’ support Ottawa’s economy and as a result other people have a right to protest at their capital. Instead demonizing the protestors from on high a policy of working with them would obtain better results.
Re: Canberra.
I have been a bit envious when I watch the links from Australia. Summer there.
That first weekend in Ottawa for the convoy was -20 (or worse) and last w/e also.
Its Canada’s answer to Burning Man.
The Frozen Man Festival.
Hopefully it will become an annual event, to remind government that Democracy requires they earn the consent of the governed.
According to the latest on Twitter, the bridge protesters have agreed to link arms when the cops show up.
Let the cops commit the first act of violence. Whatever happens after that is on their heads and those of their masters.
The Canberra thing is interesting.
Thing for those playing at home – Canberra is a woke shithole filled with public service employees who literally dress in the cardigan cliche and leave work at 3:30.
Canberra people follow the Narrative and most sane people fly in fly out.
It is also in the middle of nowhere cause when the First Nation was declared in 1901 both Melbourne and Sydney had massive pissing contents on who should be the new capital. It was compromised and Canberra was build roughly between those two cities.
So the crowds? Maybe from surrounding NSW, cause no logic would risk their losing public service paid domestic abuse leave (yes. that is a thing they get) being caught protesting against ‘the Science!’
But still makes me happy.
Also regarding Canberra:
It will be interesting to see what happens if the protestors decide to camp.
Canberra has had a tent protest (read – slum) for over 40 years run by people who can’t accept that 1788 happened and isn’t going to un-happen.
If these people decided to camp and are forced to move by the powers that be then it will completely expose the two tier status levels between ‘socially correct’ protests and those evil Alt-Right People.
Nothing will of course come from it, but it will at least be exposed.
I made the mistake of clicking on that canberra hashtag. The bitterness and impotent vitriol from people hating on the protestors is gross. People on twitter are just disgusting. So many black, black hearts trying to spread poison. I think the true victory will be the victory of normal, loving people over this putrescence. I hope everyone can escape it, even the people lost in it now. It’s really opened my eyes and made me realise that there’s no ‘fighting fire with fire’ there’s good and evil and you get to choose between the two. Setting out with the will to inflict suffering, even on your enemies is choosing the wrong side, it’s filling your heart with evil.
Doesn’t mean you have to be a dopey beatnik hippy buddhist, sometimes you do have to carry a big stick. But whatever you do, it has to be with a good heart. My new rule: if you find yourself out to create suffering then just stop it and do something else.

I’d say next week will be historic.
Thanks for the #Canberra link, Kate. Here is what the elitists on the left think of these people protesting for their freedom: https://twitter.com/scom_occhio/status/1492307608400646146
I’ve screencaptured it in case he deletes it.

Thank you Natalie.
An excellent essay!
The truckers, by the fund raising measure, have more support amongst Canadians than all of the federal parties combined!
And that is without the money laundered by certain parties from foreign governments, institutions, agencies and criminals!
Hmmmmm. Resignation of Ottawa Police Chief? . Why not?
