Leana Wen is the epitome of hypocrisy. Back when the “Opioid Abuse” was all the rage, she didn’t miss an opportunity to chastise the pharmaceutical corporations and doctors about their wonton prescribing of the drug. She highlighted the relationship between the corporations and the doctors such that the business aspect led to the widespread abuse. In my mind, that is a valid argument and one that SHOULD have been in the discussion.
BUT…she totally disregarded that moralistic stance when we started talking about “vaccines” for Covid 19. She, in this particular case, instead took on the role of cheerleader for the corporations and actively encouraged this same type of relationship we saw with opioids. One could argue that her position was not based on science or medicine, but firmly based on her personal goals of remaining a paid medical expert for a news organization that was/is one of the primary propaganda outlets for the US Government and by extension, the pharmaceutical corporations incessantly pushing their product on the public.
The hypocrisy of the juxtapositions of those two stances is mind-blowing.

As a fully vaccinated/boostered person, I would like to understand the following:
1) if the vaccines are NOT effective at stopping transmission (which appears to be the case), why mandate the truckers who cross the border to get vaccinations to stop the spread?
2) if the vaccines are indeed effective at stopping/slowing transmission (which appears to not be true), why aren’t those who have much more direct contact with the general public forced to have a vaccination to do their jobs too? e.g. grocery / box store retailers, personal trainers, restaurants servers / cooks, etc.? Seems to me requiring vaccination for those industries would be much higher priority than truckers who mostly work alone in their cabs.
3) if the mandates are to keep the hospitals from being overwhelmed, are truckers who cross the border especially vulnerable to hospitalization compare to other segments of the population? Do truckers represent a disproportionate majority of hospitalizations thus far that such a mandate can be remotely justified?
4) if this is to prevent truckers from getting sick and thus threaten the supply chain even further, would removing truckers from the road who refuse to comply be any better of a policy at securing our supply chain?
I really want to understand WHY this specific policy was enacted against this industry? [Don’t tell me that we need the vaccines to get out of this pandemic — most Canadians (including myself) have complied already. That’s a non-factor in targeting the trucking industry.]
Seems to me that if you want vaccine mandates to slow transmission then retailers should be targeted first. If instead the goal is to slow the flow of hospitalizations, then certain target demographics should be mandated first: a) the obese; b) those with pre-existing conditions; c) the elderly; — OR — The government can try to mandate the vaccine for everyone and let political fallout happen universally.
Where’s the science in targeting truckers specifically? This feels like a targeted policy for the government to flex their muscle over an industry sector, or they are attempting a slow-boil mandate rollout in an attempt to target industry-by-industry without saying that’s their plan to target everyone eventually. There’s no scientific health explain to me that justifies these selective mandates.

And what about mass transit? Are vaccine cards and ID’s being shown at every turnstile? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Retail has not been shown to be a source of spread. Spread is happening where people are closely confined indoors for extended periods of time – hours and days, not minutes.
Hospitals are near the top of that list. People, by and large, are not catching COVID and going to the hospital, they are going to the hospital and catching COVID.
