Macron gave a speech a month ago where he called for the European Union to change from a “Europe of internal cooperation to a powerful Europe active in the world, fully sovereign, free in its choices and master of its own destiny.”

    The Germans don’t like to drive from the back seat. This partnership with Russia seems like a good way to keep the French from ruining Germany’s control of the EU. IMHO.

    We were there 3 times in the 20th century. We wasted far too much money on them. They’re subjects, let them bend the knee. France is itching to bring back their glory days.

  15. Ukraine is (mostly) a failed cleptocratic basketcase of a state. Putin will NOT allow a Somalia to be set up on the borders of Western Russia. Even less so when it appears NATO’s interest in Ukraine is as a fantastic forward operating base with access to the Black Sea, and nothing else.

    Ukraine is to Russia as Mexico is to the US right now. I find my self hoping for war in Ukraine: not so that Russia can go in and “clean up” Ukraine (though that might not be such a terrible thing for Ukraine), but rather so that all these liberal scum and their glorious NATO tin soldiers will get butchered in their tens of thousands, so that the West can find out once and for all what a real war looks like, so that thousands and thousands of Western families will grieve the loss of their young men and women for a (most welcome) change after decades of doing this to others, and the rank-and-file “deplorable” members of NATO militaries will finally cease their childish fetish with “civilian control of the military is the ultimate Nirvana”. They will then stage a long overdue mutiny. Thus leading finally to the glorious revolution that rounds up liberals by the millions, and executes them for their myriad crimes and corruption.

    We ain’t gonna get there without crushing military defeat, hundreds of thousands of maimed and crippled NATO personnel clogging up the healthcare system, and the Deplorables in the military finally beginning to do to their “leaders” exactly what the Czar’s forces began to do to their officers in 1917 – spontaneously shooting them in the face when they started running their mouths.

    Sadly (for me) none of this will happen. Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria have proven beyond all doubt that NATO is all hat, no cowboy, and the Western elites know this.

If you can’t pull your weight, you’re dead weight and a nuisance to others. “Your weight” in this case usually consists of an 80 pound rucksack, you rifle and ammo, extra ammo for other weapons. Etc, lots of etc. The first thing she’s gonna learn to use is a shovel, and she will become intimate with that piece of equipment. No way anybody is going to walk in front of her either. My guess is that after the photo ops is done, Mara will go back to her cats and boxed wine.

Maybe they should contact the Afghans and ask just how they fought the massive Russian army to a standstill after 15 years, and then had the Americans embarrass themselves after wasting 20 years, and thousands of lives, and leaving over 82 billion dollars worth of hardware behind. Massive force apparently does not always carry the day.
      I say this to all those who love freedom. No government can successfully take your freedom if you are willing to give your all to keep it. Canadians should think about that.

      1. Couldn’t agree more with you VOWG. History has proven through the ages that an invading or occupying force cannot win for long against a dedicated guerrilla force. When the American Revolution began it was a ragtag bunch of deplorables that decided to stand against the most powerful army in the world. The Afghanistan withdrawal by both Russia and America is the latest example of this. Armies can kill people on the orders issued by governments but Armies and governments can not kill or eradicate an idea or ideal. If you want further proof of this you need look no further than the thousands of dedicated Islamists that have committed murder and mayhem in the last few years alone. Look how our own society has changed to accommodate the ever present threat that Islamic fundamentalists present. The American Minutemen, the Free French and now the Truckers Convoy are examples that should be studied more fully by politicians and generals that think they can rule by force.

      2. Government does what government does, most time it’s nonsense. Ottawa’s city government wants all the trucks to leave town, so tonight the police stole a whole bunch of fuel from the protestors. Because obviously trucks whose fuel tanks are empty can start right up and leave.

        You couldn’t make this up…unless you worked for the government.

I think there is a huge schism between Western cultures ruled by the “Why can’t we all just learn to get along” ethos, and Afghani culture which thrives on “I will kick your ass because that is what we have been doing here for 2,000 years,” that Western governments and warriors simply cannot reconcile. Tribal wars are just way too far outside of our realm of understanding.
