Blog Notes

Many thanks to all who donated to the blog in recent weeks and years past. While the financial support is not the reason we do this, it is appreciated. Please know that I do send a thank you note to everyone who contributes, but in a few cases my emails are returned as “undeliverable” — and that’s why I’m doing so here again.

Your support is appreciated!

  1. If I contribute money would I be allowed to give an opinion that does not conform to the SDA norm and not be called a Nazi or some other bad word?

    …didn’t think so.

    1. You want Kate to be the comment STASI? Why? If your posts are similar to policies of the National Socialists don’t be surprised if you get called on it.

There is a lot of knowledge amongst the posters here. Feel free to go home, but insisting that Kate give you the ball so no one else can play either is just rude.

  2. The pittance I sent you was a bargain for the breadth of news and laughs I get here. Too bad we didn’t have choice in Canada, I’d send you my CBC dollars

      1. +1. I’m a Rebel subscriber, but very seldom watch more than 1 or 2 shows a week. I just don’t have the time, but am willing to support them just so I know that the other voices will be available.

  3. I support True North and Rebel News too! This blog rocks.

I would love to see no media support by the government (especially the CBC).

If your product has value and is desirable, I expect to pay for it!

  4. I confirm that Kate responds with a gracious and prompt note of thanks for my paltry contribution every time. I come here more than once every day.

    1. Good Finn

Ditto that for me. Found this site years ago and review postings daily. No better postings and comments aside from the few dicks that are simply stirring sheite. Always a good variety of subject matter. Keep it going Kate and thanks to your co-hosts for me as well for filling in while you are on the road. Cheers.

    2. I log in frequently also, and enjoy the fact that your frequent contributors are usually quite well-informed, adding value to the topics you and your friends who start commentary and maintain your site while you are on the road during dog show season. A little tip sometimes does help offset the cost and effort to maintain the site. I comment infrequently on topics I know about.

I am also a fan of excellent dog breeders, and have read Kate’s brilliant and humorous dog articles, like “the dog breeder from hell”, as I know there are people out there who behave like this or could. She has also done excellent homework on the genetics of her favourite breed.

My Carlie Cavalier girl is from a BC minor show dog family and her brother was a stud until retiring at five. A cousin got to the Westminster show. I did my research to best avoid Cav health weaknesses (my goal). One really should be retired or very available to properly train a Cav puppy, given their loving temperament.

I showed Carlie once in the “altered” ie. spayed category in Chilliwack at national breed and concurrent national CKC shows, taking only two lessons on how to show a dog. I entered her mainly to be able to take her to the shows to watch her brother win his first CHC designation and showed her myself, with comical results, as she had nose-to ground during the run on the show carpet, smelling previous dogs and had an extremely inexperienced handler (me). She won 5 ribbons, having no competition, and comical comments from the English judge, and an good explanation (one big fault only – curved backside, not affecting gait, but waggy tail set lower, and a lovely face/markings/personality) why Carlie was never destined to be a show pup, but we both had a completely wonderful long weekend.

The hotel where we stayed had 75 cavaliers with their waggy tails, always some in all elevators. I learned a lot from the breeders and experienced owners too. One could see how much effort it takes to show a champion dog, in all breeds, and then deal with petty “politics” too, akin to raising a budding NHL hockey star. Lots of commitment, time, money and self-discipline for the families involved plus research.

  5. I confidently and sheepishly claim that I RECEIVE much more from Kate’s blog than I GIVE. And I always receive a personal email thank you, despite my imbalanced sheet.

Thank you for the social service you provide for (probably) millions of people.

  6. Last year I tried to make a donation via PayPal and it never went through. Something about the exchange rate…

  7. No one is obligated to donate to the blog, and if you haven’t, it’s not a problem.

Unless you complain. Then you need to pony up.

    1. Good on that! I never get into bun fights with your “name caller/insult” contributors, as I they either did not have parents who held them to account, ignored the adage that “name-calling is verboten”, although it seems to be common now (e.g., Trudeau) Most five-year-olds know this. You have been generous, allowing alternative, even slightly noxious, contributors, as well as feedback that I SKIP QUICKLY.
Personally, I ignore the bait, as they are often low-value contributors.

  8. Great work you do here. I hope no one monitors what site I click when getting up or going to bed. Hopefully you outlive me and don’t get sick or bored of the never ending subject matter. I’m hoping I can always click SDA going forward. If you breed Sheepdogs, I’d like to get one. If you want to quit riding, I’ll buy the RD.
(I think you’d like the air cooled ones BTW)

  9. Thanks for this blog and the work that you do Kate. I have been here for years but only recently started to pitch in from time to time.

  10. As you know,I now trust Canada Post more than Paypal.
Contributions to this oasis of sanity, now replace those magazines I once Subscribed to.
Not to mention the razor wit of our Host.
Long may you find this fun.
