    As an alternative, I’ve got a couple of flicks. Most of us are familiar with the term “spaghetti western”. How about some “spaghetti science fiction”?

    I have to wonder what Claude Rains was thinking when he agreed to be in this one. It was made around the time that he would have been working on Lawrence of Arabia.

    It’s not as bad as the other one, but there’s an interesting aspect to this. Both movies are directed by Antonio Marghertiti under the name of Anthony Dawson. He went on to direct several more SSF movies, including The Wild, Wild Planet, The War of the Planets, and Snow Devils, each of which shows up on Turner Classic Movies from time to time. All of those movies, as well as Assignment: Outer Space use the same sets, same costumes, and, often, the same stock footage.

      I still download and listen to the archived editions of John Batchelor’s show (now called CBS Eye on the World). Currently, one of the ads is for the latest model of fancy-schmancy Intel-powered laptop computer. It features a father frustrated with his machine and his ever-so-smart daughter tells him he should get a machine like hers.

      It’s your typical modern ad. Father (i. e., older generation male) is depicted as being dumb as a post. Daughter (presumably a young female Gen Whatever) is the brains in the family.

      Through my work on settling my father’s estate, I’m often reminded of the truth behind Mark Twain’s comment:

      “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant that I could hardly stand to have the old man around. When I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”

    Strangely, the FOX News report sanitized the lawless event. Some of the Twitter posts are shocking. Hordes of (mostly black) youths crashing through the fences to get in for free; the rapper Scott calling the seated fans to crowd up next to the stage (where the fatal crush took place); rough-house youths jumping on top of ambulances as they came on the disaster scene.

    Brave new world ahead of us.

    I don’t live in Alberta, but I do heat my home with gas and and benefit in ten thousand different ways from the use of Mother Earth’s natural bounty. So I consider it an assault from K-bec that needs to be countered.

    1. It’s a not unheard-of event in third world oil producing countries.
      SOP is too drill a small hole in an exposed part of the pipeline with a small. mechanical, hand drill.
      The poor then use containers to collect the gasoline, either for personal use or resale.
      After a while the spillage, from the pipeline, saturates the surrounding environment, and that’s when some poor soul, thinking he’s not near the drilled hole, decides to light one up, and the rest becomes an obscure story on AP or Reuters.

    1. I watched a forensic investigator, using witness testimony from the Warren Commission, hundreds of witnesses from the actual event, and photos, determined that the Kennedy kill shot, was accidentally delivered by a Secret Service agent in the trailing car.
      Also I remember one witness saying he heard a pop…….pop.pop, which if accurate, would indicate at least two shooters, Oswald, the first two shots, the final pop, the kill shot then delivered by the agent.
      An interesting theory, as he delves into the reasoning of why the junior agent, the man responsible for washing the cars, was holding a government issue rifle of the AR category, while the more seasoned agents slept off their hangovers in the back seat. He covers the botched autopsy, the one held in Washington, and not Texas where the law requires it to be performed. The secret service threats, allegedly made against, I believe Parkland’s head physician/director?, I’m not certain of the exact title.
      Anyway, an interesting theory. I’ll try and find the video.

      1. Yes, I saw something of the sort too about the Secret Service agent in the trailing car. What about the man in the manhole? The one near the grassy knoll or on it, if that’s another? There will always be mysterious theories about who did it. We’ll never know the truth.

  24. There’s a “special issue” of Maclean magazine on the racks today.
    It has a picture of dear leader that’s been made to look like a marble bust of his head (although damaged).
    The caption for the issue is “The triumph of Trudeau”
    WTF are they going on about? I’ll never know because after I threw up in my mouth a little bit, I didn’t bother to even leaf through that rag to see how they were going to define a smaller minority government as a triumph.
    They don’t even pretend to not worship him.

  30. I just finished watching Idiocracy and I found it to be laugh-out-loud funny in places. It was much more entertaining than what I had started to watch earlier in the evening…..

    Totally agree – Vincent Bugliosi’s monumental “Reclaiming History” goes into exhausting detail debunking the various (CIA, FBI, KGB, Mafia, Cuban) conspiracy theories.

    Bugliosi, the prosecutor in the Charles Manson murders, was also the prosecutor in a fascinating TV program made in the 80’s called “On Trial: Lee Harvey Oswald” using many of the witnesses of the assassination.

    One of the witnesses was a Texas School Book Depository employee who was watching the JFK motorcade from the 5th floor of the building, directly below Oswald. Not only did he hear the 3 shots fired from directly above him, he heard three shell casings hit the floor!

    It’s on Youtube – it’s almost 6 hours long but it’s utterly fascinating!
