He had been shot down and killed during the war, and my Dad was there on one of those veteran’s trips they used to have. Very moving experience. Especially when Dutch people at the cemetary wanted to shake my hand because I was wearing a Canadian uniform. Its sickening to see that little weasel there, when his father was a coward during the war and rode around Montreal wearing a German helmet.

I’ve been a lot of places in a long life and actually met a few former Nazis and current neo-Nazis and people who are accused of being neo-Nazis and actually are libertarians (furthest possible thing from Nazi really), none of whom seemed to pose even a slight challenge to the public order. Most of the people that progressives currently label as “right wing extremists” are just everyday conservatives who have not rolled over and played dead like some of the more visible so-called conservative politicians who do so because they think they will be further marginalized if they do not. They might be correct in their analysis, but as soon as they made that decision, the conservative movement in Canada was doomed to a future of irrelevance since it cannot offer any meaningful opposition to the dominant progressive consensus. Harper had the best shot at changing this equation but his later efforts seemed more in line with accommodation than opposition. Jason Kenney and Scott Moe have drifted into the accommodationist camp, Ford is all over the place but generally a centrist, and what we have in BC as an opposition was never really any further right than dead centre anyway. (the “Liberal” party here is basically a 2.0 version of Social Credit blended with the formerly weak Liberal Party of the 1980s, nowadays that name Social Credit has of course an entirely different meaning).
Max Bernier is trying to give real conservatism a voice and he made some gains in the election but as we can see four fifths of the movement refuses to leave the warm embrace of the corporate globalist sponsors of the CPC, and have the gall to lecture us on vote splitting when in fact their votes are already worthless anyway.
The only way out in Canada will be for everyone in the conservative camp to realize that we need a party with values like those of the PPC, in parliament and perhaps one day in government; otherwise, it’s just a slow and gradual death of a thousand cuts and if the faux-cons ever gain power again, nothing much will change, they will just slow down the out of control bus as it approaches the cliff. (to be precise, the bus is already in mid-air, hope you jumped off a while back) …
