About that container shipping backlog…
The trucking issue with California LA ports, ie the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) and the Port of Long Beach (POLB), is that all semi tractors have to be current with new California emissions standards. As a consequence, that mean trucks cannot be older than 3 years if they are to pick up or deliver containers at those ports. This issue wipes out approximately half of the fleet trucks used to move containers in/out of the port. Operating the port 24/7 will not cure the issue, because all it does is pile up more containers that sit idle as they await a limited number of trucks to pick them up. THIS is the central issue.
Read the whole thing.

meanwhile the transport secretary sits at home having his fake teats sucked. you couldnt make this up
Why not? Isn’t that how Kammy solved the matter of refugees at the southern border, namely by sitting on her backside in her office and doing nothing?
I know a lot of managers who conduct their business that way. It’s a wonder anything ever gets done.
BADR: “It’s a wonder anything ever gets done.” No problem, really. It’s called gravity.
BA, That’s what minions are for.
It’s people like him who created the mess in the first place. He’d only F%^& it up more if he was at work, probably better that he isn’t.
That’s what I’ve been trying to show is our system is pooched and has reached its economic conclusion.
As supplies become more rare and expensive.
Don’t worry! Gavin Newsom is all over this problem …
https://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2021/10/20/newsom-executive-order-global-supply-chain-issues-port-backup/
He will try to stack up all the containers on nearby vacant lots. What will this accomplish?
1. Every single container will have to be moved twice (at least).
2. Improve the optics of hundreds of waiting ships in the harbor.
Added inefficiency, and changing NOTHING … in an effort to disguise the CRISIS. Worse than a useless move. Behold your leftist leaders incompetency.
Oh! And … “Global Warming! Global Warming! … fine particulate pollution! BIPOC asthma outbreak! Underserved communities asthma outbreak! Save the children! Clean air is more important than toys or treadmills! “
Nice – that will free up ships to bring over even more containers that can’t be transported.
Log jam you say? Have you tried adding more logs?
Hahaha
It’s over 1 million containers waiting to be off loaded.
That’s a lot of stacking.
Kenji, I would bet most of those containers, will be emptied if they don’t provide security. A big bad add to the optics.
Well, that’s an alternative way to distribute the goods.
Didn’t they also ban owner/operators from all California ports?
One solution is to cut way back on buying Chinese.
I was going to point that out as an additional problem – independent truckers are also effectively barred from California. A simple solution to this problem would be simply to declare an emergency and take over the ports as Truman did with the steel industry back in the day. I think you’ve got a decent case that California’s rules unconstitutionally interfere with interstate commerce, at least a better case than that a farmer growing wheat for his own chickens is interfering with interstate commerce.
YES, victims of the gig work ban.
“…cut back on buying Chinese.” But then where would they get stuff? Make it themselves?
How can anyone look at this situation as not being intentional?
Good Grief!!
Burton
How to implement socialism 101!
Floridian Ports are open for business.
El Duce had no problems making the trains run on time. Someone needs to put some of those California snow flakes up against the wall and get that shit moving.
1 – Store the excess containers in residential neighbourhoods.
2 – The containers will “self unload” in certain neighbourhoods.
Good plan…………………
Do the ships meet California emission standards?
Soon California will legislate all goods must come via clean emission ships… e.g. sailing ships!
And in bio-degradable shipping containers.
Nah. Galleys, powered by human slaves, would be more efficient.
Or maybe it’s this: Lotsa trucks and drivers waiting, but the cranes are doing nothing:

Who owns the ports?
Don’t worry, the Biden Junta plans to apply California’s AB5 across the country, which of course will end the job of Owner/Operator in trucking….
and Trump should have pushed harder to eliminate california’s EPA exemption, which would have avoided their stupidity with emissions and trucking
also, check to see when the new regulations on Locomotives come into force, it’ll cut down on the number of intermodal trains servicing the ports, because most railways don’t buy new locomotives at a rate of more than a few a year, because they tend to last for decades.
Sundance had a good piece on this the other day – big importers saw this coming years ago and have adjusted shipments to come in via other ports – planned well in advance. So this was not unforseen.
Maybe crane operators are “working to rule” right now – they only make about 250K + per year – and figure its time for a raise….
Just curious, all those ships out there idling…pretty green I would imagine.
Meanwhile Lee Valley Tools warned customers of up to year long delays in shipments. Also this:
“To bring in a container from Asia that used to cost $7,000 now costs $34,000 unless you’re Home Depot and can afford to charter a ship,” Chief Executive Robin Lee said in an interview. “I don’t think the public understands how much of what they buy is comprised of freight.”

Time to stop importing from China then
This is such utter bullshit what’s going on in California.
Something really stinks.
The Port of Long Beach has MULTIPLE train track loading facilities that lead right up to the ocean for direct ship to train transport.
They can off load 200 containers at a time unto trains double stacked high, with delivery access to the entire continental U.S.,as opposed to trucks, which can only haul a single 40 footer at a time out of port.
Something fishy is going on.
are whoever sent the containered goods asking for payment now they are on us soil?? is that why china has problems financially. Why not return them?
It’s another Democrat thing, like defunding the police and crime goes up; ban trucks and less get delivered. It’s almost as if they were deliberately trying to destroy their country.
Why not get to the root of the problem, rescind the three year age of trucks. Why was it ever enacted in the first place. If a trucking firm whether a large firm or small independent owner has to buy a new tractor every three years at a cost of what $150,000, that is $50,000 a year is excess overhead. This is supposed to help save the planet? Now the $50,000 has to be paid by someone and guess who ends up paying for it, you the consumer. We have been driven completely off the rails with fear mongering. It was the climate change scenario twenty years ago, but the problem was we didn’t buy the package that the NWO (Democrats and Liberals) was selling us. So the new crisis that was developed and sold to us is the plandemic. Now the climate change rules implemented over the last twenty years has caught up with us, coupled with the demand for mass injections and a fraudulent election and we now have the perfect storm on the horizon. Buckle up folks this is going to change everything as we know it.
seems to me a conflict of interest betwixt consumers and voters.
oh, wait, in californicate its the same bunch. what to do, what to do . . . . . .
Nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.
Tax the industrious until they leave.
Check.
Regulate industry to a standstill.
Check.
Subsidize favoured friends and fellow travellers to “encourage” the industry.
Check.
Wonder why nothing moves and costs are iverted?
Never.
American Products never go through Port of Los Angeles on their way to you.
Maybe the Orange Man Bad was on to something?
