A new paper on an old subject that is way more interesting than it seems at first.
Long before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, an increasing number of scientific publications showed the effectiveness of a sufficient vitamin D3 blood level in curing many of the human diseases caused by a weak or unregulated immune system [37,57–59]. This includes all types of virus infections [43,60–68,180], with a main emphasis on lung infections that cause ARDS [69–71], as well as autoimmune diseases [45,62,72,73]. However, routine vitamin D3 testing and supplementation are still not established today. Unfortunately, it seems that the new findings about vitamin D3 have not been well accepted in the medical community. Many official recommendations to define vitamin D3 deficiency still stick to the 20 ng/ml established 100 years ago to cure rickets [74].
Additionally, many recommendations for vitamin D3 supplementation are in the range of 5 to 20 μg per day (200 to 800 international units), which is much too low to guarantee the optimal blood level of 40–60 ng/ml.
Grab a beverage and go through the whole thing it’s a fascinating read.

Well I usually take vit D in the winter but with this hocus pocus I am maintaining 2000 UI per day (whatever this).
Same. I was doing 1000 IU for a while pre pandemic and then bumped it up to 2000 ever since. I just added zinc (25mg) and C (500mg) to my regimen too. Figure we’re due for a whopper of a wave down here.
I bumped up my personal intake of vitamin D to 3000 IU a day. I can’t say I feel any better or worse. So did my wife. And her asthma went from severe to almost nothing.
interesting anecdotal support for what I’m already doing. Thanks Justin!
Had this discussion with my doctor spring of 2020. He said 1000iu was lots. I’ve been taking 6000iu (at least, but never more than 10,000) a day since then. And I’m outside lotsGuess I don’t listen to the “experts” very well. Haven’t had so much as a sniffle since either.
Most research I’ve read says 10000 a day is fine with no toxicity for majority of people. I’m NOT a doctor or pharmacist though.
Gotta agree with you there. I’ve been taking 5,000 daily since the woohoo flu started and Chris Martensen publicized initial studies showing the strong correlation between Covid deaths and total lack of VitD in blood serum from victims. Seemed a no-brainer to take it, then added K2, the combination is extraordinarily good for your vascular system, in reversing calcification. I can vouch.
Anyways, VitD is DIRT CHEAP too.
Can agree, havent been sick or sniffly since, and have noticed other minor improvements in some skin conditions as well.
My wife told the Dr she was taking 5k daily as well. His response? “Why so much, don’t want to overdo it!” IDIOT. Same guy who asked if we’ve taken our jab yet. IDIOT SQUARED
Finally, a use for Canadian homo milk.
Drink up, comrades!
Not sure if you’re referring to galactorrhea.
Hoping not, and therefore:
Got milk?

My dr gave me the pitch about a year ago
I’m 60 and have struggled with lots of colds and flu every winter for the past 15 years. Last winter, after taking 10k units /day I never so much as had a sniffle. The other thing that possibly played into this is that I quit sugar completely and found that it had contributed to some other chronic issues. I can’t say enough about the importance of the basics in our lives
Quite often, it gets overlooked
Yeah. Never eat fruits, they have too much sugar in them.
I dropped sugary drinks from my diet years ago. All soft drinks, all fruit juices. Very quickly I noticed my energy levels stabilized through the day instead of having peaks and valleys, which I presume were tied to the huge sugar intake and subsequent crash. Gave up alcohol too, though that was on doctor’s strong suggestion. Not quite an order but pretty close.
You want a quick way to reduce your sugar intake, drop all those drinks.
Now coffee, you won’t take that from me, no way no how.
remember Linus Pauling and vitamin C?
People will jump on whatever fad suits them. Right now its covid panic fad. Vaxxes, Invermectin and vitamin D. 2 of those three are proven to be harmless.
C’mon in, the water’s fine!
According to the WHO all three of them are SAFE, EFFECTIVE and HARMLESS!!!
Oh sorry you are right the Vaxxes may not be HARMLESS!

Come, my pretty, it’s just an apple. How could an apple hurt you? (/this “fruit” has never seen a tree, has not passed any safety tests, has been declared mandatory by people who care nothing about you, and may spontaneously combust before or after ingestion)
Based on old SDA commenter Loki’s observations as a doctor, I started taking 10,000 IU/day about four years ago for joint stiffness in the winter. It makes a huge difference – I can absolutely tell if I miss a day. It may be psychosomatic, but who cares? I take it so I won’t feel stiff and sore, and it works.
I also haven’t had a cold or the flu in that four years except the year I got the flu shot, which messed me up so badly I had to go the ER.
Whatever happened to Loki, anyway? I miss his comments. Dude knew where his towel was.
Myself, I started drinking 4-6 Oz of Bourbon a day. No flu, all my aches and pains are gone, never catch cold, and it cured my Crohn’s disease!
The pharma industry would not make so many billionaires if everyone is healthy.
Yes, Loki is another gem that has gone off the grid. Gone deep undercover, hope his health is good.
I’d raise a toast, but can’t decide between Melba and Cinnamon.
(/snort, knows where his towel is… I’m home)
My personal physician has been routinely testing my blood and always cites the need for boosting my Vit. D. It’s really just a function of age. You age … (read: survive) … you’re gonna need to supplement your falling levels of Vit. D.
All I know is … that I never (read: rarely) get sick. Is it the Vit. D or the Vit. C that I megadose? Who knows … but it’s certainly not hurt me.
I will never forget TV Dr. Dean Edell was asked; “if you just recommend ONE thing for a healthier life, what would it be?”. The Doctor’s answer: “Eat less”. That’s it. Eat less, slim down, take the stress off every organ in your body.
My recommendation? Megadose Vit’s. C & D and eat less. Give your body a break.
I my ex, a nurse, told the entire family to have at least 200. i.u. / 25 lbs
I’m always 170-180 lbs so I take 7-8 x 200 = about 1600 i.u. each day, same ratio as our entire family.
This is in addition to the 200 i.u. in my regular multivitamin, and an additional 500mg of C.
Some of us take additional similar items
It seems like very cheap insurance.
I pay about $8. for 200 of the Sisu vitamin D of the 200 i.u. size at Superstore in Calgary
Lord knows you clowns can’t just eat right, gotta take your magic pills.
Bring on the SMOD.
Remember Hajdu saying vitamin D was fake news? There have been thousands of these kinds of tells that this is not about covid or even the vaccine. It’s about power and control. I had been taking Norwegian cod liver oil by the tablespoon in the winter for a long time still got the odd flu but after 55 I started taking it year round and have not had even a sniffle for 5 years now and have added the vit C and zinc since covid started.
Fake news. What an idiot!
The body naturally produces vitamin D when exposed to UVB light. It also tans. But the FDA has decided that’s not safe.
“Although some people think that a tan gives them a ‘healthy’ glow, any tan is a sign of skin damage,” says Sharon Miller, M.S.E.E., a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) scientist and international expert on UV radiation and tanning.

It’s people like Sharon that make me skeptical of Government funded “science”.
Was taking 5000 IU before Covid and bumped it up to 8000 IU.
Also useful for some skin conditions, seasonal affective disorder…for those north of the 35th parallel.
About 40000 IU it gets toxic; so up to about 10000 IU is fine depending on size, and weight as far as other studies I’ve read.
Will add this to my corpus (corpse, ha!) of knowledge.
Cheers

The US scale is ng, the Canadian scale is nmol. Getting a blood test is the only reliable way to ensure your dosage is high enough.
I’ve been taking D3 & K2 mk7 for about 5 years now and have added zinc just recently. B100 complex, Biotin, C, magnesium, omega 3, and Curcumin as well.
Here’s an article from Scotland, stating overuse of sunscreen causing vit D deficiencies in kids. Scotland? Perhaps the lack of sun, or extremely white people, (due to lack of sun)..

Vit B, and C are water soluble vitamins, its pretty hard to get too much of those, (too much C can lead to diarrhea at the upper limit), as they are eliminated fairly quickly. Kidney stones also become a possibility, its the old “The dose makes the poison”. Who would have thunk they’d be using curare and warfarin in modern medical practice?
Vit. A and D and other FAT soluble ones can cause issues at higher levels.
My grandmother was “bow-legged”, grandfather would tease her as being “incapable of catching a pig!” Often wonder if it was rickets caused by lack of sufficient vitamin D in her diet, as a child.
I’m retired so I can sit out in the sunshine. I do this every day when the sun shines, do the Sudoko and crosswords from the National Post. Probably about an hour a day, some days two hours. I read Rex Murphy over breakfast.
That sounds exactly like my “work at home” routine that I’ve been doing since March 2020.
Had colitis for years. Started taking vit D3 and it healed up and remains gone. Take anywhere from 6000 to 10000.
Two weeks to flatten the curve morphed into two weeks to fire the health care workers.
Our doctor put us on 4,000 IU daily starting about 5 years ago. Haven’t had a cold, flu or sore throat ever since.
I’ve never had the blood test to check VitD levels, but if I’m not mistaken about 2-3 yrs ago they removed that from OHIP and now you have to pay out of pocket for it. That tells me right there it’s an important factor in keeping people healthy, the gov’t will always do the opposite.
I recommend the Vitamin D test. See where you are at.
You need way more than 20 ng/ml.
A friend with MS says her doctor wants her to have 80-100 ng/ml.
A lot of people say more Vitamin D lessens Depression and the Winter Blahs.
Don’t forget Vitamins B and C, and Zinc too.
The Epoch Times regularly posts a column extolling the virtues of Vitamin D. While I take 3000 in pill form my wife insists on using the more expensive drops claiming better absorption.
Philm, as one who has taken and still takes a number of vitamin supplements, one thing I see has been missing in the discussion of vitamins. That which your body cannot use it discards. Our bodies can only use so much of anything and finding the right balance can be difficult.
