1. Moa, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, Hitler, Castro, Che and millions more who have somehow managed to evade the intelligentsia of the “psychology” professoriate as examples of authoritarians of the left. I think that is all one needs to know about their usefulness to society beyond the Marxist echo chamber.

3. Conservatives and progressives (Marxists in training pretending they’re liberals in therapy), are willing to use government power to achieves their aims and ends. The conservatives uses a selective and limited, “good government” approach.

   Progressives, otoh, love state power and use it at every opportunity and don’t believe government must be limited, but enhanced.
   As progressives inevitably grow government, so grows coercion and propaganda to perpetuate political power, not public service.
   One of these things clearly prefers use of authoritarianism over the other. Hint the real totalitarians don’t think it’s them.
   Saying they’re remotely the same because they both countenance coercive state power is like calling a VW a Lamborghini.

      I honestly couldn’t read past the subheading of this Billionaire Apple Heiress propped-up ragazine. Coercive attitudes? Conservatives? Ohhhh … I see … this writer is calling “opinions” … “coercive attitudes”. Na&&@h Puhleeze! Here’s what I associate with conservatives – “Freedom” … and … “Liberty”. Free to have divergent opinions.

      But what really looks like “coercive attitudes” to Atlantic writers? The refusal of conservatives to believe in leftist bullshit. Bullshit labeled “Truth” … and “Science” … even “Fact Checked”. If you don’t believe the bullshit? … then you have a “coercive attitude”

    They insist they KNOW better than all of us ,how we shall live ,work and entertain ourselves,insist they have the right to “nudge” us into doing their will,by lying to us.
    And using the power of bureaucracy,lawfare and stupid politicians against all.
    But “They are not authoritarians”,they believe themselves to be our superiors.

    They are the authoritarians, but refuse to see it. They think that Fascism is a far-right ideology. In truth, it is only slightly right of other authoritarian ideologies like communism and socialism. The Leftists are so authoritarian, they cannot even understand actual right-of-center political thought.

13. Authoritarianism is a necessary component of all collectivism beyond a small hippie commune.
    You can not expect everyone to voluntarily subvert their own interests for the sake of the collective.

    They erroneously claim that openly evil collectivists and statists are right wing, and when someone manages to restore a bit of freedom or individual autonomy that upsets them, they claim that is authoritarian.

    Who mandates ethanol content in liquid fuels? The left.
    Who mandates minimum mpg regulations? The left.
    Who mandates vaccination in order to maintain employment? The left.
