    That’s the point, MIT/CFS will build the pilot, SPARC, in 2025. In 2030 they will build the commercial model in 2030.
    The breakthrough resolves a major hurdle:

    Citing the series of physics papers published last year, Brandon Sorbom, the chief science officer at CFS, says “basically the papers conclude that if we build the magnet, all of the physics will work in SPARC. So, this demonstration answers the question: Can they build the magnet? It’s a very exciting time! It’s a huge milestone.”

    1. I’m not saying that it can’t be done. It’s just that after hearing more than 4 decades of chirpy, optimistic proclamations of “in another 5 years” without a whole lot to show for it, except for a stack of publications by the investigators, one tends to become rather cynical.

      2. BAD – The beef is the the series of physics papers published last yeear that conclude that if we build the magnet, all of the physics in the SPARC Tokamak reactor design will work. On September 5th the magnet worked. This is a major breakthrough. We now only have to wait until 2025, less than four years, to see if the physicists’ theory matches practice.
        I too am sceptical. So much can go wrong. The magnet is so powerful it can pull the iron out of your blood. We are living in interesting times which, as you may know, is a curse but could also be a blessing.

          I often have to wonder whether many of these projects are attempts by under-worked academics to create work for themselves.

            However, my friend who owned several successful startup companies would say, if it were easy, everyone would be doing it.

    BTW, I have already voted. I went for PPC. On the advice of Conrad Black I looked at the PPC platform and was impressed. It’s not that the CPC platform is without merit but it’s a hard NO on voting for a party whose leader said he was in favour of restricting the rights and liberties of Canadians who are unvaccinated.

    2. I voted in the advance poll and strongly suggest to all to do so. They had us wear masks, social distance and the poll was manned by “new Canadians” who had a shaky grasp of the English language. It took over half an hour to vote and I waited in line for half hour with about 8 people ahead of me. Does not bode well for the actual Election Day.

      1. At my poll they also had contact tracing set up. I recently read that the contact tracing is not effective when a virus transmits readily. The idea comes from a few years ago when it was used with a much harder to transmit virus. Anyway I asked the woman if it was required and she said no — so I just proceeded. I think the contact tracing is getting absurd, and is also pointless because of the ineffective PCR tests. If they were making early treatments like Ivermectin available, it would make more sense.

        My voting poll was a shitshow. Long lineup, disorganized, slow and only 2 voting boxes. Dude checking voting cards with ID and handing out ballots was also taking them back…was unhealthy, unsteady & surely.

I have writing on this subject on my own blog since Feb 2020 and have made many comments on this blog about the continuing disinformation campaign regarding the Covid virus. The big question is: Who is driving this campaign and why? It is a huge and complex subject, far too big to adequately cover in a comment but – boiled down to its essentials – it is simply a very sophisticated attempt by the world’s political megalomaniacs and corporate crooks to gain political power and loot the public treasuries.

        Apparently, because of that, it became airline policy to serve each of the pilots different meals as a way of reducing the possibility that both would come down with food poisoning.

    1. Depends on what “vaxxed” is. No jab, one jab, two jabs, one for good luck jab? Personally, I’m not jabbed. Bad for my heath and my Docs don’t even discuss it with me. So, I guess despite the hype it isn’t affecting my treatment, or them. Nobody is missing. I don’t go out much these days either, so I don’t see any neighbors much. As far as I can tell folks are keeping a low profile, but carrying on with day to day stuff. I have other health issues unrelated to COVID to occupy my time. Oh, I went to COVID central for a year and a half, three different hospitals. Didn’t meet anyone there claiming they even had COVID. Only one taxi driver admitted he’d been vaxxed last year. None of the other ones I ride with said anything about it.
      To note though, in China mostly males have been affected, fifty plus. We have an Asian gal next door in her 60’s who was vaxxed last year not affected at all. Out mowing the lawn the other evening.

    1. What are you seeing where you are, Watcher? You mentioned your daughter-in-law, how’s she doing?

      Here’s a few anecdotes:

      • A relative in Ontario said she received her first jab (Moderna) in the Spring and had slight cold-like symptoms a few days afterwards. She was to have gotten the second one in August.
      E-mails are friendly but evasive. She asked if I got it and I replied that I didn’t because of implied immunity from actually having had a severe flu before covid was announced. E-mails are still evasive.

      • A neighbor claimed she’s fully vaccinated. (Pfizer, not sure) She seems fine. Never complained, at least to to me.

      • Another 2 neighbors got fully vaccinated (Pfizer) by July and August.
      He: contracted shingles and was in agony and on meds.
      She: never complained about herself but said that he was getting very forgetful. Example: gets lost driving around city sometimes.

      All of this info was volunteered by these people. Most are evasive, essentially, it’s a non-topic.
