Canada opened the land border to fully vaccinated Americans on August 9th, hoping to spur recovery in their destroyed tourism industry.
Border crossings did increase somewhat at first but have steadily declined since: currently down 90% versus 2019:

In 2019, tourism was Canada’s number one service export, totaling 3% of total exports, generating $105 billion in revenue, and accounting for 1.8 million direct and indirect jobs in Canada.
I’m glad to see fully vaccinated tourists are staying away. We don’t need more asymptomatic super spreaders. We already have enough of our own to deal with.

Hardly surprising given the government hasn’t made it easy to enter Canada (especially for the casual short term visitor). That and the U.S. has recommended against travel to Canada.

The vaccinated (rich whites) feel no need to spend a weekend in Montreal now they can spend a month in Paris again.
Working-class (unvaccinated) whites are more focused on keeping body and soul together in a country whose government is hell-bent on making sure they never work in the formal economy again than spending a weekend and money they don’t have in Queerbec.
Neither is good news for Canada’s tourism industry.
I can speak to this somewhat. Seems the Americans came over after waiting in line for five hours… checked their cottages to make sure the walls were still up and booked it home two or three days later, when normally most would be here for at least three weeks.
Can’t say I blame them…I’ve never waited five hours for anything.
That’s exactly what my American friends did, except they left the wife and kids at home stayed a week at the cottage, fixed the dock and caught a lot of pike.

It was sure good to have my daughter’s wedding in Vancouver. Everything was “discounted” 25% … fantastic! … when you’re paying for an open bar all night. And trust me … my son in law’s Canadian Friends took great advantage of our generosity. No matter … his Canadian buds are so so affable 😉

You’re more generous than our family was. There was a minimal charge for drinks to discourage waste. Though I rather suspect that at the reception held at friends’ rural property, the horses in the nearby corral were feeling rather happy by the end of the evening as the guests shared their drinks.
Yep I know a family that moved to the US years ago and they were supposed to come up for a wedding but couldn’t get covid tests in time (all booked up). No one will come here when you can go to so many other places with no test and no bs.

I would love to be able to come to Canada to have breakfasts at little restaurants, go shopping in general. I live close enough to the border that I see Canada most days when I am driving around. I used to go to Canada for little day trips all the time. It’s simply not worth the hassle. Drop the tests, they are pointless.
Same here. We lived a few hundred yards from the Niagara River, U.S. side, for nearly 30 years. Crossed at least once a week. We moved to the Midwest a half year before the Covid BS started.
I found five Now useless-to-me Canadian $20 bills in a not-often-used purse a while back. It gave me a twinge, thinking how things used the be, and almost certainly never will be again. We also used to drive through Ontario from NY to Michigan. Won’t be taking THAT route if/when we go back to NY to visit. And, being uninjected, we won’t be visiting Canadian friends any time soon, either; if ever.
Why come to Canada only to put up with mask mandates and vaxx passes? Most, if not all, states in the union have nothing comparable. Its bizarre that Canadians don’t consider that angle. You would think we live in a bubble.
It’s worth noting that people can’t plan trips when government changes policies on a whim.
Any trip longer than an extended weekend has the groundwork laid out months in advance.
Vacationing in Canada isn’t very practical when they’re plugged into a ventilator.

I have been visiting Eastern Canada from Massachusetts at least once a year since 2015 for extended trips. I don’t plan on going again until things return to normal.
In the meantime, I’ve discovered the Western (mostly Southwestern) US states in the last couple of years. There’s pleny of fun and adventure to be had down there.
I live in Montana near the borders of Alberta and BC. We take all our vacations in Banff and Jasper National Parks. We would like to go back but after getting the Chinese Communist/PLA flu we have antibodies off the charts. How high? The Mayo clinic blood test results that came back two weeks ago have us at over 200. Anything over 0.80 and you are good. Why the hell do we need a “vaccine?”
We refuse to get any vaccine. Guess we won’t be going to Canada until your dicktator child jackass PM is out of there. Even then your NDP and “Conservatives” may be just as anti-science. We’ll see.
