Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

"Smalldeadanimals doesn't speak for the people of Saskatchewan" - Former Sask Premier Lorne Calvert
"I got so much traffic after your post my web host asked me to buy a larger traffic allowance." - Dr.Ross McKitrick
Holy hell, woman. When you send someone traffic, you send someone TRAFFIC.My hosting provider thought I was being DDoSed. - Sean McCormick
"The New York Times link to me yesterday [...] generated one-fifth of the traffic I normally get from a link from Small Dead Animals." - Kathy Shaidle
"You may be a nasty right winger, but you're not nasty all the time!" - Warren Kinsella
"Go back to collecting your welfare livelihood." - Michael E. Zilkowsky
Good. The one true economy can only reveal itself after all of the false jobs have been cast away and forgotten.
Come, join us.
We have Kool-Aid.
(/sarc. too much?)
C M. I think far too many people have drank the kool-aid. That why we find ourselves in the very dangerous position we are now in. I don’t think I would bother putting a sarc tag on because it is pretty much the truth.
Catherine Rampell is a Bezos Post hack.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/09/03/august-jobs-report-disappointing-delta-covid-risk/
“The best and most obvious remedy? Clamp down on covid transmissions. As has been the case since early 2020, the virus is in control of the economy; to get the economy back on firmer footing, we must control the virus…The key to more jobs is more jabs.”
And not, of course, Beijing’s being obliged to cease using Americans as guinea pigs for the latest generation of biological weapons.
Awful Truth – Your warning about the source is spot on, but a miss of this magnitude may indicate the economists drank the Kool-Aid, and this is the first month of stagnation and inflation.
Beyond the stagflation, we now need to worry about the insidious decay in US competitiveness, as Biden does nothing to punish massively subsidized Chinese hi tech exports. All US hi tech sectors will eventually be forced out of business by China, if nothing is done to stop their subsidies.
We are approaching a tipping point for the west as all sectors of western society draw closer to financial bankruptcy.
If you want to worry about something try figuring out how Canada repays the debt just as the bulk of Baby Boomers (the ones fueling the stock market) are getting ready to retire. And we’re not a healthy bunch.
Don’t worry, that’s nothing that a little wishful thinking and an act of Parliament can’t take care of.
Act of Parliament?? Bullshit! Justin will just print more money.
Well it can’t be and of the Democrats’ fault if it’s Bezos’s rag reporting on it, or he might lose funding for his hobby rockets.
Who goes to the store anymore? Amazon delivers it cheaper.
Obviously, Phantom, you have never had to purchase “intimate apparel” where fit was a consideration.
Footwear as well. Several years ago, I bought two pairs of Civil War boots at a boot shop in my end of Edmonton. The proprietor was able to find me something that fit and were comfortable, but I had to try them on first.
That shop had all sorts of boots available. You name the style, you name the type of leather, chances are he had it or could get it for you. He showed me a pair of ostrich skin leather boots and I’m pretty sure he had some made from sharkskin as well.
Hmmm…have not been to a,Shoe store in near 23 years.
It was at that time I discovered ECCO brand shoes, hands down, the absolute most comfortable shoes I ever bought… worn 4 years pretty much daily
Since then I’ve bought ~10 pairs, all off E-Bay…at 1/3rd the price of BNIB…a cpl of Ankle high light weight hikers, 3 sets dress shoes, 2 sets casual walkers, a cpl pair of sandals…and still, the majority of them in perfectly good shape.
No other brand ever came close..including Clark’s et all.
Amazon delivers it cheaper.
Not just that, but most store clerks are either useless or far too eager to make a sale.
For example, a few days ago, I went to the nearby The Source outlet to buy a tablet battery for a set of digital calipers that I have. Being the old coot that I am, I found some promising candidates and was in the process of looking to see if they had the right dimensions when some over-enthusiastic kid swooped down on me and insisted on helping.
Now, there’s no mistaking that I was much older than her, having grey hair. What I would have appreciated is if she had just waited a minute or so, let me have a look, and then answer any questions that I might have had. (Sorry, but I’ve forgotten more about batteries than you’ll ever know.) As it turned out, she was able to match the original item with the potential replacement that I was looking at.
It’s as if they think that they, and they alone, have the “knowledge” and I, being someone who just walked in was too dumb to figure out what I’m looking for.
Oh well. You sound like a 90 year old.
And can do so because Amazon warehouses are effectively exempt from the absurd hygiene theatre Jeff Bezos’ competitors are obliged to engage in.
Amazon.. The new state department store.. “You never have to leave the state owned accomodations”. Can you imagine the numbers in Aus, with most restricted to their homes?
Including mandatory tattoos of the employee number. Yes, I can imagine that.
and I thought it wouldn’t happen again.
CM. History coming right back at us and so few people are able to see it.
Between the marginal borrower getting tapped out thanks to an already onerous debt burden and the knock-on effects of the lockdowns, this comes as no surprise. It will be much worse in Canada as the lockdowns remain largely in place, and now most provincial governments require several classes of businesses to deny entry to customers based on vaccination status.
Just wait until the consequences of having to show vaccine id takes its toll. The new normal marches on folks. Start grieving your old life now because it’s never coming back.
The only thing that will bring it back is a refusal to comply or a civil war. Either one of these will be an effective option.
And an insufficient number of Canadians have the capacity to do either.
Both stupid and cowardly is one way to describe Canadians.
One of my middle sons hosted a family get together. My nephew said since the shot he has developed allergies he never had before. He is looking for a new home for his cat because every time he is even in the same room with her his face swells up. It’s breaking his heart because he loves that cat. Another of my sons said every since he got vaxxed he’s had absolutely horrible hay fever, his nose running constantly and he has developed a persistent cough, lost 15 pounds and he just can’t do his workouts in the gym anymore because he’s too tired. He has a doctor’s appointment this week. He looks like hell and I’m worried.
Of course I know what is going to happen. My daughter had a severe reaction to the vaccine and they told her it couldn’t possibly be the vaccine. It must be she caught the COVID before the vax and she didn’t have any symptoms appear until after the vax 8 hours later. The vax doesn’t cause the symptoms she has. So these two young men will be told the same thing. Even though you never had this before the vax and it appeared right after the vax, it can’t possibly be the vax. And don’t forget to get your booster.
JB, the medical profession has become a disgrace. They will lie right to your face and don’t really give a damn whether you live or die. Most know absolutely nothing about the vaxxes and that is a serious problem.
Yup. When I had prostate problems, I went through several physicians and finally found one who wasn’t a money-grubber.
Before him, every one of them either didn’t want to have anything to do with my situation or, if they did, tried to milk the system for as much cash as possible. One kept sending me back for re-testing whenever the results from the previous one wasn’t quite to his satisfaction. One day, he scheduled me for an appointment with a specialist over my objections. I fired him.
Masks are glorious,masks are great.
Soon they will be the only way you can move in public without being tracked.
Time to go full moonsuit crazy, and identify as martians, never mind as Carriers of The Dread Covid.
Strikes me,if you pretend to be a “Karen” and wear a full breathing airpac, solar flare visor and toxic air kit,the poor gestapo will be too frightened to interrogate you.
And as we ape the Demonically Possessed Clowns for USA,you can steal at will when shopping..
Burn Loot Murder.
I’ve thought the same. I want to get a “face shield”, an N95 mask and nitrite gloves. Plus maybe a hazmat suit
During the time I flew between Edmonton and my house in B. C., I saw a few young Chinese in exactly that getup you described. If you think masks are a bit much, wait until you get onto a plane with someone dressed like that.
I remember a time when such people were rounded up and returned to Happy Acres.
Crowhouse: Personally, I want a full hazmat suit that looks like a tuxedo (with a drop-seat for convenience).
I be a “stylish alien” doncha know!
Speaking of the “toxic air kit” … there is a local eco-krank living in my town who distributes devices that measure “fine particulate matter” in the air. He is constantly posting on NextDoor whenever Local air “turns dangerous”. Of course, the air is ALWAYS “BAD” during afternoon commute hours with all those ICE autos “belching pollutants out of their tail pipes” … but he also posts on EVERY Holiday (like Labor Day) … claiming that everyone’s BBQ is fouling the air … causing his monitor to spike into the RED zone … and harming small, special needs children.
Ohhhhhhhhh mommmmaaaaaaa
Muh gdp
The bottom 20% made real wage gains under Trump, the 1% were obviously not happy.
Shush! Don’t say the T word, or it’s the re-education camps for you.
(I wish this were a joke.)
Bottom line truth.
With the flip flops I am beginning to think our dull tool doesn’t want to win the election. Whoever “wins” inherent a huge financial mess. If the tool can’t continue the current governments spending we will have been “warned” how heartless “Harper” conservatives are. (Even though the so called cons are anything but). Best case for us is a Liberal minority- let them own the mess. In the meantime I will vote Maverick and hope they gain enough traction to be forceful. Voted Max last time.
I can’t fathom how ‘liberal’ anything is best.
The mess is there, regardless who wins. This is how they deal with it.
I’ll pass.
Liberalism is a mental disorder!!!
PERIOD!!!!
I remember Bob Rae and the disaster he caused. This led to the election of Mike Harris who inherited a total mess. And how are these two men remembered?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_premiers_of_Ontario
Bob Rae: (Dr. positive)
Social Contract and clash with unions; Rae days; Pay equity; Affirmative action; Strengthening of rent control; anti-scab legislation; Reserve status for North Ontario Aboriginals; Moratorium on new nuclear plants; Attempted to maintain ban on Sunday shopping before allowing it; Introduction of casinos; Attempted to bring in extension of spousal benefits for same-sex partners.
Mike Harris: (Dr. negative)
Common Sense Revolution; 30% tax cut; 21% cut to social assistance rates; attempted to introduce Workfare; cancelled urban infrastructure projects including Eglinton subway; cut government spending; downloading of Ontario Housing to municipalities; provincial funding for municipal transit reduced; Telehealth Ontario created; division of Ontario Hydro; municipal amalgamations, including Amalgamation of Toronto; Elimination of OAC year (Grade 13) and re-introduction of standardized testing; privatization of Highway 407; Ipperwash Crisis; teacher strikes; $1B cut from Education; Walkerton Tragedy; Ontario’s Drive Clean; hospital closures and health restructuring.
IMO Bob Rae is the single worst person ever to run a government in Canada. Yet fondly remembered by history.
Wikipedia is dead. It has been taken over by leftist lunatics. Editors who insist in truth and balance are bullied out. Just don’t even bother with it anymore. It’s garbage.
I remember making a positive comment about Harris to my parents and was astonished when my dad blew up and went on an anti-Harris rant. My dad was a very quiet so his outburst was completely out of character. Don’t think I ever discussed politics with my parents after that.
I have a specific cookie I like with a chocolate top. Last time it went on special my wife stocked up and bought ten boxes at 2/$1.99 each. (I could not go shopping with her due to COVID restrictions of 1/household.) The box held 300grams. Since I ate them all we went shopping together for more. (For now I am allowed in too.) Same cookies. Box is now 225 grams. Price is $3.49 on special from $3.99.
My wife announced she’s baking cookies from scratch instead. So maybe this inflation is not such a bad thing.
What is it with Trudeaus and stagflation anyway.
I.M. said, “And an insufficient number of Canadians have the capacity to do either.”
I’m not one of those. Despite Bonnie Henry’s new (old) edict that we have to mask up again, I’ve simply said ‘no’. I have had almost zero pushback in stores and most people just seem not to notice. Many clerks engage me in polite conversation and seem to appreciate my smiles. But I seem to be the only one having the temerity to just say no. Really, in 9/10 stores it’s a non-issue. A couple, like Costco insist on masking – so I just put on my plague mask – https://tinyurl.com/yhhlggut – from Amazon, and carry on. It’s amazing the number of ‘thumbs-ups’ and positive responses I receive from people of all ages.
I’d encourage anyone to buy a cheap plastic mask from a party/costume store and use it to mock.
Who could’ve predicted shutting down businesses for over a year and “jailing” people in their own homes under the COVID hysteria would’ve been detrimental to an economy? Geez, it’s like there’s an “Invisible Hand” or something.
