Tuned in to watch the last half of the Winnipeg Blue Bomber game yesterday. It looked like there were a lot of empty seats and sure enough a Stadium with a seating capacity of a little over 33,000 only attracted 22,000 on one of those rare Sunday evenings when the weather was perfect.
For those who don’t know the Canadian Football League has trouble making money at the best times. Boondoggles and government bailouts are pretty normal. Vaccines were supposed to be the magic bullet this year for the league. The Bombers went all in with vaccinated only fans allowed policy thinking this would lead to sell out crowds during its covid shortened season.
The Edmonton Elks are still having issues and looking down South the Tennessee Titans with a vaccination rate of 97% are having trouble keeping their best players on the field.
I watched college football on tv on Saturday – Nebraska at Illinois. The stadium looked packed, and I didn’t see anyone wearing masks.
In a normal season, 22,000 in a 33,000-seat stadium isn’t that bad. I think the true test of whether the vaccine-only policy can lead to a sellout in Winnipeg will be when Saskatchewan shows up on the 11th.
Now, if it’s a stadium with a much larger capacity, like Commonwealth, 22,000 looks bad.

I am really concerned about where all this vaccine passport crap is going. National Post has this big article with an “expert” going on about how we need to segregate the unvaccinated for their own protection. And we may need to impose more segregation and isolation to protect them. That fake leaked conspiracy theory document had the government setting up internment camps to isolate the unvaccinated. It’s really starting to look like this is another spoiler not a conspiracy theory.
Just from my limited observations it is pretty clear these vaccine passports are to monitor our movements. Most places issue a record, which could easily be presented if required. Setting it up electronically is simply an authoritarian way to know where a person has been. And, yes, I have encountered sheeple who are demanding this type of surveillance. They are too far gone to understand that it was never about the virus.

I haven’t watched more than 5 minutes of CFL in decades, sorry, I know there are fans here, but, it’s an inferior product, with massive player turnover, leaving no readily identifiable image to relate to, year after year.
Maybe if it wasn’t pushed so hard by TSN, pretending it’s a major league sport, I could respect it more, it just seems it’s more on par with regional high-level men’s soccer, than a “higher level”. I don’t begrudge the players, they are high level athletes, it’s just the the faux hype surrounding the league by a network that needs to fill its broadcast schedule between old repititious highlight reels, Aussie Rules Footy, Wymyns hockey and bucketball, and other activities that hardly anyone watches.

Being community owned means never having to worry about paying the bills. They get their money at the local and Provincial level and when things really get rough they can hit the feds up for some real cash.

That was the announced/paid attendance, there is no way that stadium was 2/3rds full, just from what one could pick up where they weren’t taking shots of staged fans I don’t think it was half full. Sayonara CFL. Maybe they can use those stadiums for Unvaxed Internment Camps.

Since they just *had* to replace the Eskimos team name, Elks does make sense, not just because they can keep the EE logo but the short form for the Eskimos name is Esks and Elks has the same number of letters.

About their average attendance from 2019. Need to average the full season to see if it has any impact overall. Way too early to determine if the medical tyranny is reducing attendance.
14,000 in Montreal the other day. They had years of sell-outs previously. Anecdotal, yes, but the writing on the wall doesn’t look good.
