      Keystone xl cancelled, hcl factory in Taiwan, chip factory in Japan, colonial pipeline, line 5?, Gaza strait blocked, Texas without power, tmx may as well be shut down (never seen a pipeline project move slower in my life), now meat. Seems like we better get used to shortages.

      I know these can all be explained, just like Clinton associates. After a while a pattern develops though.

    I wasn’t terribly crazy about it when it was on the charts, either.

    It was used in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, a rather odd choice of music for what’s supposed to be a western. (Watch for Canadian actor Donnelly Rhodes in a bit part.) Then again, I thought the musical score for that film was rather eccentric, written by Burt Bacharach, with some of it sounding like it was performed by the Swingle Singers (listen for it during the South American chase scenes).

    1. Written by the hit songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, the funny thing is that they originally approached Bob Dylan to sing it for the film. That would have been a hoot!

    1. I don’t know about Kamloops, but I have a wonderful book by a teacher in a residential school. It includes pictures of smiling kids and heart warming memories. Those schools were not abusive across the board. This one in the NWT even saught to include native knowledge in its curriculum. For some reason, public discourse never is able to capture a balanced perspective.

      1. Take a look at the school at Alert Bay. During the 30s, that school was working hard to transmit and preserve native culture. Two totem poles were erected at the entrance, and a collection of the students’ work was sent to Vancouver and ended up being exhibited in a hall at the PNE. In the same era, there was also a type of hospital called a “Preventorium” where Indian children exhibiting early signs of TB were sent in the hope that they could be restored to health and returned to their families. The “Pre” was generally successful, and this was in the days before penicillin when TB – being very contageous – was a scourge and every province had at least one TB sanitorium (there was one in Kamloops).

        As I mentioned before, my little guy would quickly it them apart but, then, that’s him.

        I spent nearly 48 hours with him and he’s back with his family now. He, unfortunately, is showing his age. He can’t play “go und get it” as long as he used to. He also seems to have problems adjusting to a change in diet or, maybe, circumstances as he threw up the first night.

        Still, his getting older hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm or his impishness. If, while playing “go und get it”, I fake him out too often, he takes his toy, stuffs it some place inaccessible to him, barks loudly, and I have to dig it out for him. He did the same thing to my parents, so I guess it must be the canine equivalent of a knee-slapper.

        In addition, some of my neighbours who might help themselves to the rhubarb growing in my back yard (my mother planted it many years ago) could find that it tastes a bit funny, if you get my meaning.

          Oz laid down in front of me near my feet so that I’d pay attention to him too while talking to his ‘parents’. He wanted a belly rub so I worked my way down to head, ears, and then a good belly rub. Once I gave the gift to his parents and continued chatting he moved to blanket both my feet like he wanted more attention. It felt sort of cozy even though it was 30° C outside today. He then abandoned that position to inspect his new toys. The first thing he went for was the hedgehog and it only took a few seconds before he got it to squeak. The efforts all paid off– we all had a nice visit.

            Well, he’s going to be 12 this year and, as I recall from the other dogs my parents had, that’s about the time when the critters developed all sorts of aches and ailments. Mind you, those beasties were quite overweight while my step-brother is close to his optimum because of his activity.

            I discussed what happened with his “Mummy” and we figured that it could have been the excitement that upset his system. Mind you, he didn’t eat any of his regular food until shortly before he went home earlier today. I gave him a bone to chew on and that might have had an effect, but I also gave him some of what I was eating, but only in very small portions.

            He was OK yesterday and today. Whatever affected him or, for that matter, his age didn’t stop him from getting “friendly” with my arm.
