With a Florida bred horse that sold as a yearling for $1,000.

  1. Had my money on the show horse Hot Rod Charlie.

7 winners for Baffert, wow. Jockey is no slouch either with 4 wins.

    1. Yep. Velasquez rode a beautiful trip. Front running and on the rail.

      1. Never gave up the lead, did he? A little pressure from the field on the final turn … that he held off perfectly. The horse had plenty left to take the flag

      2. Perfect conditions – “Fast” conditions same as 1973

        2021 Time – 2:01:02

        1973 Time – 1:59:40 (Secretariat – record) – that’s about 7 to 8 lengths vs. 2021 winner or a blow out.

They race to improve the breed? 48 years of no progress and counting. Let horses other than thoroughbreds race. Imagine limiting the 1500 meter run at the Olympics to offspring of the Australian 1896 winner: Time 4:33:20 vs 3:32:07 – the current record

        1. The thoroughbred horse has a closed genetic pool. They absolutely wont allow an out cross. All offspring are inbred. They cannot improve the results even with modern training methods and high powered feed. Citation won the Triple Crown in ’48. He could still win today. Go figure

          1. Exactly – it’s stupid.

Furthermore every turf and dirt record over 1 mile is held by a horse that is 4 to 8 years old. So why race 3 year old’s? Well, for breeding to make sure no horse ever goes faster. Sorry, thoroughbred racing is plain stupid and corrupt.

      3. “Front running and on the rail.”

How to run the simplest and shortest possible race.

  2. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1777595/

The Film “50-1” didn’t treat Bob Baffert as a very likable human being. Arrogant, aloof, pompous … not very charitable toward his fellow horsemen.

This winner reminds me of the “undersized” Mine That Bird And the jockey reminds me of Calvin Borel

    1. You can now buy a Kentucky Derby winner with your stimulus check … and still have money left over for a weeks worth of oats …

  3. I didn’t fight it so I hit the exacta and trifecta, but you can’t consider someone the GOAT who has had so many horses fail drug tests through the years, and especially after we found out at least one track covered up for him.

He isn’t the GOAT, he is TBTP (too big to punish).

  4. Taking a flyer on a $1000 horse and going on to win the Superbowl, I mean Derby is like drafting Tom Brady 199th.
