Germany’s energy transition has proved too costly and underestimated the risks to supply, a federal audit office report seen by Reuters has found.
Reforms are needed to state taxes and fees to fix a system that has left Germany with Europe’s highest retail electricity prices and at risk of grid blackouts, the as-yet-unpublished report said.
Wind is in green.

Big problems on the horizon for countries that keep increasing wind and solar as part of their energy system.
Lived there for over 5 years, saw prices go from 15 cents/kwh to over 30. Our monthly utilities were nearly as high as our mortgage.
The utilities were even so kind as to offer a green tariff, an extra 5 cents higher with a little green sticker you could put on your door to virtue signal. People did this, then had to turn down the heat to minimal in most of their house with only their living room being ‘warmed’ when guests came over. They felt virtuous about shivering at home.
Bunch of green idiots, they don’t see the problem as long as they can virtue signal.
There is Some Ting Wong with this.
Germans are usually pretty competent at these things.
Maybe there are too many intellectualists (sic) running things. These people are known to think in another world, another space, an out of body experience. They of course are using all the energy they need to have since they need to have it as opposed to those that can get by on wood fire and horse carriage.
There are still a number of Übermensch that look at plebeians as servants undeserving and stupid that need to be told the right thing,
There is no other explanation.
Didn’t whats-her-face announce shutting down all the nukes a few years ago? How’s that working out?
Right after Fukushima. Because Tsunamis are common in Germany or something.
You can never be too careful, you know.
My question? In the chart … is the Nuclear that which is generated in Germany? … or purchased from France?
I would presume Germany. Despite my preceding comment I would actually be surprised if any nuclear in Germany was actually shuttered since their announcement. They have no way to make up the load.
I am well into reading a book titled “Green Tyranny” by Rupert Darwall. It covers the start of the Green parties and how we are today being more and more controlled by this political movement. It goes way back before WW2 and how Sweden, eastern Europe and Germany under Hitler were allying themselves with Russia and on into the Cold War finally won by Reagan and the West.
One point that I thought was indicative of how today our academics are so allied with the left. How the Marxist Frankfurt School members were invited to the US and became professors at Yale, Harvard, USC and we see the result we face throughout academia.
Remember Acid Rain and how we were doomed and it finally was shown to a complete hoax. Now we have in lockstep, Climate Change, and its goal of overthrowing our Western countries.
This book along with “Apocalypse Never” by Michael Shellenberger just underline ,as we at SDA have written about so many times, how this political movement will destroy us. This was a chance for Erin O’Toole to state climate change is a hoax and we conservatives refuse to support it. Another dream dies.
Thirty years ago, German auto workers funded Greenpeace through payroll deduction. In a country that prides itself in technological excellence in manufacturing, they have demonstrated the opposite in governance and energy policies. Nuclear power is emblematic of technological mastery and that is the system they are disposing with.
our governments in the interest of various rent seekers and cartels, decided that they should prioritize the least reliable power generation of Solar and Wind, over more proven and reliable power generation such as Hydro, Thermal Fuels and Nuclear.
Interestingly enough Germany had record share of wind energy in 2020, an American election year, than what’s projected for 2021 which looks like a wind% match to 2019. The sources that take up the vast majority of the slack are the ones deemed least “green” on the list: lignite, coal and nat gas. Given Germany’s electorate moving more “right” the ruling party seems to have enough fear to backtrack before a party like the aFD gets enough power to totally dismantle their globalist dreams. All in all this forced retreat shows that green power is too bitter a pill to push all the way down people’s throats. Which is a failure in their agenda to shut down fossil fuel demand this decade. If Germany can’t do it….
And by “biomass” they mean….firewood? Unless they are burning small dead animals.
Apparently Germany is in the process of de industrializing because they have made power too expensive to run industry profitably. Sucks to be them, although the same thing has happened in Ontario as well. China is building huge amounts of coal power because they need it for the industry they created when we killed it in the west. We “offshored” the manufacturing and the energy production that goes with it.
So THAT’S why the Porsche prices are getting further and further out of my reach?
Not IF they go the Mexico or China?
Kate…
You forgot the ‘e’ at the end of Schadenfreude… wait… ohhhh I see what you did there. Thank you for my Friday morning laugh 🙂 … as always.
Who cares about Germany’s utility prices. Blame braindead Merkel and the people that vote for her and her ilk. Letting in millions more Muslim invaders into an already over populated country, going “green” and a whole raft of other stupidity.
Why we bothered to rid them of fascism I will never understand. Waste of good men and money.
Other than Germans. likely no one, but it’s a good illustration of what we face since we’re doing the exact same stupid things.
Germany won’t have the highest electricity prices for long; Joe Biden is determined to join them, and Justin will be striving to be first at something.
That is the thing though. Too costly; TO WHOM? Not to Merkel. Not to anyone collecting a fully indexed pension living or dead. Not to people who can fuel their private jets regardless of what the cost of fuel is.
I would say; mission accomplished. Just like they are doing here. The lights will never go off in the Provincial Palace (I mean “legislature” building). The heat will never go off, for anyone who has ever been an MLA, or drove money losing routes for STC for 60 years.
Who whom, Leninthink writ large. who dominates whom, who does what to whom, who annihilates whom
