Forget ethnomathematics … this STARTED with Common Core. My 1st grade teacher wife … FIRST GRADE!!! had to be re-educated about how to teach math by the new Common Core standards. The very FIRST change? … partial credit. She had to give partial credit to students who answer that “2-sticks + 2 more sticks = 5 sticks” why? Because …
a) the child actually held the sticks in his hand,
b) the child was present in the classroom,
c) the child responded with a number, not a fruit,
d) the child tried counting on his fingers, instead of counting the sticks
e) the child is from an underserved community
f) the child was a likely victim of abuse
Every Report Card period … my wife stresses beyond belief. In FIRST GRADE!!! … because she simply CANNOT fail *ahem* certain “communities” of children. It’s somewhat shocking that she, a ‘white’ teacher, remains employed in an “urban” school district.
Odd that when one looks at the history of mathematics, one finds that multiple cultures made the same mathematical discoveries. Different number and counting systems, sure, but they all came to find the same universal principles.
There is only one way out of where the woke are taking us.

It’s simple really. Societies that embrace the universality of mathematics are technologically advanced and enjoy all the benefits that technology brings.
Societies that eschew conventional mathematics and a proper education live in straw huts held together by yak shit.

Canute, realizing that these deadwood courtiers where just looking to outdo each other for royal favour ($) had the good sense to call them on it and decided to hold court at the seaside.
Moral of the story is that there wasn’t a “moment the sea levels began to recede”.
I would like to see a moment like that again.
