The rapid tests have been widely available since March 20, of 2020, and most don’t require you to have a 8″ long swab jammed up your nose… they also can’t be manipulated to show a higher “infection” rate, like you can with the PCR test (by increasing cycle counts).
Today, I called in asymptomatic.

Not quite true: here in Ontario the Rapid Antigen Testing is available to paramedics, cops and tons of private “non-celebrity” companies.

It’s because they get money from the government every time they get shut down. Also, they know if they make a fuss the inspectors will suddenly become much more picky, which will cost them MUCH more money than a couple of shutdowns.
Plus they don’t actually care about Covid. They know a scam when the see one.

I can help answer the question “why don’t we have these yet.” It starts with the observation that “Rapid test“ is a synonym for antigen or antibody test. It took until Quite recently to develop a rapid, point of care, which is to say potentially “at home” antigen test that was sensitive enough to be diagnostic. Using any prior rapid test was bound to give unreliable results that increase rather than quell the chaos. You should also know that the Canadian version of the US FDA takes even longer to get through than the FDA does, and that’s way, way, way too long in both places. I think that going forward the key to suppressing fear is to couple rapid antibody tests with the vaccine. Those who don’t want the vaccine are typically not afraid of the Wuhan flu. Those who do want the vaccine are typically afraid that it won’t work because we know they are significantly less than 100% effective. Virtually all rapid antibody tests are useless for this purpose, but there is at least one that can tell you with a simple fingerstick whether your vaccine had the intended effect. That kills the fear. That ends the chaos.
