What’s The Opposite Of Diversity?

Solvency.

A leaked Feb. 1 memo from Laurentian University president Robert Haché said it took the step of the CCAA filing because “despite Laurentian’s best efforts, the university has not been able to achieve the type of cost-cutting and restructuring measures to position it for future success outside of this type of formal proceeding.

Laurentian offers 28 gender studies courses, so maybe that will pull them out of the fire. h/t Chris

    1. What? And give back some of what they so deeply stuck their snouts into the golden hog trough for?

  1. Students cannot retain credit for both WGSX 2066 and WOMN 2066

Well … their problem is quite obvious

  2. So then, I guess they ran out of other people’s money finally and are petitioning to get some other people’s money.

Is it just a coincidence that this comes the same time as the fallout from the GameStop rebellion?

  3. How can you only have 28 gender study courses when there are at least 100 different genders? Be better Laurentian!

    1. 100% true. More studies programs about bad Orange men and actshual Hitlers the more solvent they would be.

  4. Both my sister (Masters – Adult Education) and I (Bachelor – Interior Design) think that there will be a HUGE reduction in the number of universities/colleges because of 2020. And, it could not happen to a nicer bunch of guys. Because of the influx of baby boomers starting in 1966, there was a push for building new universities (U of Calgary, U of Regina, Simon Fraser, U of Lethbridge) in the late 60’s and a building boom on older universities (U of M, UBC).
But baby boomers started retiring in 2006 and the retirement is accelerating. The generations behind are just not as large and many university courses have been discredited – they are only good for adding consumer debt.
There will be a reckoning and there will be blood. As a character on Coronation Street stated “Everyone has a sad story!”

    1. The colleges have been systematically dumbing-down their curricula and lowering admission standards in response to the demographics you cite. Just look and listen to the college student rabble of today … it’s quite obvious they’re in over their heads. And they’re bitter. Perhaps it’s the knowledge they’ve permanently indebted themselves for a worthless college degree. Well … at least they’ve learned SOMETHING about the real world from their college experience.

    2. there will be a HUGE reduction in the number of universities/colleges because of 2020

Nah. They’ll just import more idiot offspring of the Chinese elite. Post-secondary education nowadays is all about getting bums in seats.

      1. No they don’t want to take gender studies. They’re the ones that will fill in the courses necessary to graduate into government sinecures such as public health or policy analysis.

      2. We do not require universities any longer. Other than the STEM … that’s it.

Arts degree have been proven to create illusion, delusion, misery, poverty, social unrest, extreme malcontent … and a bizarre sense of entitlement.

Avoid them all and get a viable blue collar trade, because no one knows how anything works anymore.

You can get rich doing electrical, plumbing, welding, machinist work, carpentry, and so on. Arts gets you a gig at a doughnut place.

        1. I just paid my smart, hard-working, experienced, 60yo (Caucasian) Framer a bloody fortune to frame my substantial remodel. I paid him far in excess of the maximum salary I’ve ever made.

Such is the market for skilled tradespeople here in the SF Bay Area. You either pay TOP wages for skilled people … or find rag-tag, illegals, who haven’t a clue what they’re doing. Yes, I have some of those too … but they’re nothing more than labor … and I know what I’m doing and can manage them

        2. A good electrician or plumber can make more than a G P and have none of the over head or risk of lawsuits. Or have his income reduced if he/she sees more than the health care system is prepared to pay for. Imagine an electrician having his overtime cut because he is working too hard doing extra jobs.

  5. It was reported somewhere (maybe here ?) that nearly half of the 800 staff are on the Ontario Sunshine List (make over 100K per year).

    In Sudbury.

Where the average house price is 320K

    Bloody parasites.

    1. 406 are on the sunshine list for 2019… yes, I looked it up

Laurentian also has an investment account worth about $51 million, which is less than what the University of Ottawa earned from their investment account…

it’s also in Sudbury, which pretty much precludes a lot of foreign students paying full freight for their degrees

  6. “Look ma! I got a PhD in gender studies.

Gotta run now, I’m late for work at McDonald’s”.

      1. On the other hand, without those useless degrees, where would the government get its check-in security agents?

      2. No, they get into advertising or marketing. Look at some of the garbage trying to convince you to buy a product. “Buy our product, we will donate to – pick your leftist whack job bunch here.” Or, “We only use useless moonbat sourced – pick your favourite – in the production of our overpriced lousy offerings.”
Best yet, Ford and GM to cut their own throats and jump into the EV only market.

      3. They’re perfectly suited for TOP Deep State management positions at 6-figure salaries …

Ugggh … kill me now … before our country and society completely collapses on itself

        1. I am glad I am old. The stupid irritates and angers me but I know I will not have to live it a whole other lifetime. Jeez, I would hate to 20 again. I know the kids only know what they have been exposed but hell this getting pathetic.

  7. I can’t think of a better thread than this one to brag about my youngest daughter(27) recently becoming a journeyman carpenter. I am so proud of her!!

And to think just 10 – 12 yrs ago I was ignorant enough to offer to help my daughters fund a college or university education. Thankfully, they both declined and I am convinced that, personally and professionally, they are much better off for it.

    1. According to that condescending, narcissitic prig John Kerry, your daughter should have made a “better choice.” This from a man with absolutely NO marketable skills other than pontification. The “blue collar” workers are the ones with the real power. EVERYTHING that makes life liveable is down to them. If every blue collar quit working for just one week, it would drive home what skills make the world run. And it isn’t clueless politicians or gender studies grads.

  8. Yabbut, just imagine the countless international opportunities when you have a plethora of gender study credits under your belt; why, you can go anywhere in the world and take your pick of positions such as…..as….as….”Sorry, what was the question again?”

  9. If the receiver is in charge, fire all the staff making over $100,000 per year without severance pay and make the ones left teach 5 courses instead of 3 courses. Hell, I’ll be the receiver for room and board and travel. The entertainment value of firing all this overpaid useless humanity would be worth it. The provincial government should immediately fire the board and replace them with hard ass conservative business people. Run it like the business it’s pretending to be.

    1. The government should run the STEM departments for 3 more years to graduate the current students, then shut the place down. Or turn it into a trade school/community college.

      1. Wasn’t it already a community college but decided to pull a Ryerson and self identify as a University?

  10. I read the link about Gender studies. What a crock, gender studies, that is. I mean, to point out the obvious, there are only so many positions as teachers of gender studies. So the graduates face a high unemployment situation. That’s the least of the problems with such a course. Yup, it’s so obvious but the WOKE don’t have enough common sense to realize that. I suppose however it can count as a credit to a teaching degree and then one can brainwash the young kids in the school system. That must be the plan.

    1. The study of the human species, the male and female of it, has been quite extensive for the last few thousand years and things have not changed, there are still only male and female. Reproduction has been altered somewhat with new insemination techniques but it still has to work the same old way. Teaching lies of course has been the S O P for decades now.

  11. The burning question is where does northern Ontario start. This is a serious question. I am from Port Arthur. Left the province 1963.

    1. I am from North Bay, which touted itself as being “the gateway to the north”.
For me, it was the gateway to the west when I left back in the 1970s.

    2. Barrie?
      Muskoka?
      Blue Mtn?
      401? Ha!
Born in P.A., raised in Westfort, saw the light, moved West.

  12. Ha Ha Ha playing with themselves too much…Burger Flipper Degrees and Dog Walker Degrees.
Send them a picture of the dogs anus and ask them what gender is this….

  13. As a matter of policy, one of the main functions of postsecondary education since the ’60s has been to absorb and occupy large numbers of youth, who would be otherwise unemployed. You see, the primary problem lies with government itself. The institutions than had to evolve with lowered standards, and the expansion of programs outside of professional colleges and STEM programs. Not all of the masses, you see, have the aptitude and motivation for programs orientated to employment. When enrollment numbers were low, in the ’50s, the economy could absorb even most liberals arts graduates, who were often economically privileged even before enrollment. I can recall having young teachers ask to be hired for positions, and claiming Master’s degrees as part of their credentials. When I looked at their CVs, I would often discover that their degrees were in gender studies or environmental studies, whatever those are. Absolutely useless.

  14. Ontario Education Explained
    Primary = Dumbing
    High School = Dumber
    University = Dumbest
But very popular with foreign students willing to pay for it. Debt problem = charge more.

  15. Once upon a time, local universities were structured to provide for the local economy’s needs. The University of Windsor had renowned Law and Engineering faculties to service the Big Three (automotive) industry of the city. The University of Waterloo, renowned for its computer science degree, serviced the myriad of insurance companies headquartered in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. Laurentian University probably produced some awesome mining and geological engineers (Sudbury = mining) in its day but the introduction of “fake” degrees has watered down the credibility of all universities. Unfortunately, with the dumbing down of elementary and high school education, Canada isn’t producing enough people capable enough to go into the STEM fields but are just perfect for some type of social studies type of undergrad degree.

    1. It’s probably the only place in ontario where you can get a degree in Mining Engineering, but their engineering school looks to be small, with only 3 programs

  16. Get back to me when the university’s creditors repossess the campus.

That’s what would happen to you and me if we stiffed the bank on our mortgages and car loans. A couple of big fellows would be sent to change the locks—and teach us a lesson if we hadn’t already gotten our worthless made in China trash out of there long before they arrived.

None of the people responsible for this is going to lose his house. Guaranteed.

(To kill the left, kill leftists.

To make sure it stays dead, abolish fractional reserve banking and limited liability—the biggest financial frauds known to man.)

  17. “Despite our best efforts … Laurentian is insolvent,’ top official says …”

Top official is misunderstanding the situation. It is because of what their “best efforts” were that they are insolvent.
