  1. Techniques like that were used during the American embassy occupation in Tehran 40 years ago. Camera shots were set up such that they conveyed the image that all the city streets were filled with demonstrators baying for American blood. In reality, a block or two of a side street had a bunch of people occupying the space and choreographed in to chanting “Death to America” and other such inanities.

  2. like the typical CBCpravda fakery , either a steam plant done in sepia for maximum ugly . or a picture of the Alyeska line for a transmountain / above ground vrs below ground, they have temporily suspended the latter as the liberals bought the line/

      As for the photography, the major media outlets have this down to an artform. Big crowd – small crowd, take your pick.

  4. Journalism has never been about the truth. That is a deception and a lie. Journalism is about the narrative.

It’s a means by which scumbags, who in a sane world would be shot in the head and dumped in a shallow grave with their harlots and bastards, sell you crap you don’t need and nobody in his right mind ought to want. Anything from overpriced soap flakes to the scumbag’s latest splendid little war to make the world safe for Chinese supremacy.

    1. You mean Trudeau can blame his black faces on someone photo chopped it and changed for this legacy in history…
      Some of this new video techniques can create a whole conversation with a few photos and add in voice synthesizers.
      Truly scary stuff if someone wanted to create some seriously bad situations happen with faces of certain people in politically sensitive areas.

  6. This is a standard practice of the ‘journalist’ photographers.
    Its the only way to get people fooled by the media cartel.
    One would think that people know the trick and then there is not much else to be done about it.
    Of course there are the masses that never give it another thought so what they see is what they get.
    As photography goes, the compressed telephoto pictures are always more ‘sexy’, so to say, than wide angle.

    Just another fit for propaganda.

  7. I was screaming this when Gavin Newsom was shutting down beaches because small groups of FAMILIES were enjoying the beach. Each unit more than adequately spaced from one another.

    But then … Gavin went further … and made it “illegal” to frolic in the ocean. SMH.

    Well … shame on the public for accepting all this nonsense like sheep

What’s not mentioned is that all these shots were done in bright daylight, using very “fast” lenses & at their most stopped down aperture (smallest opening), with a fairly long exposure (~1/30 second?), you will also note there is little to no action either (would have blurred as well)…had they not been stopped down, anything in front of or behind would have been relegated to “Bokeh” …(out of focus and totally blurred.)

  9. I remember seeing this article around the time it came out. I think our friend David T linked it here, but I’m not certain.

    When I was in elementary school, lo those many years ago, our teacher (back when that wasn’t an epithet) brought in a video for us to watch. It was about “truth” in advertising, though I can’t recall the name. What it did was show how different techniques could be used to trick the human eye/brain into seeing or thinking something that wasn’t true. The most obvious one of these was forced perspective, which was later used to great effect in the LOTR films and also shown there in the Behind the Scenes videos. Another was putting something little into small hands to make it seem larger. I’m not sure what the aim of this was at its heart, but it taught me to trust very little of what I see in images, especially TV ones, and this was before the easy access of computers, let alone photo-editing software.

    At this point I don’t trust images or video unless I recorded them or someone I trust did. Even so, I still have visceral reactions to imagery that support or contradict my internal narratives/agendas, and it can be difficult to shake my way out of that and into actual analysis and assessment.

  10. The adult children are ignoring the guidelines so are the apparent superspreaders because they see the adult children acting hypocritically, demonstrating on a daily basis they neither believe their pronouncements nor intend to follow their own edicts.

    They’re the smart ones on this subject. Ironic, ain’t it.

  11. The “media” play many such tricks. (Reuters has been caught many times). I recall years ago when the Mope and Wail had a picture on their front page showing an ANC march in South Africa. Lots of ANC flags and such….but then I also saw the SAME picture in another media outlet which showed a broader view of the march. It was crystal clear that the Mope and Wail went to GREAT pains to crop the picture in such a fashion as to exclude the sea of hammer and sickle flags.

    are we now finally at the point where every generation needs to learn ALL the lessons of the previous?

  16. Hold the “lunker” out in front of you as far as possible and it makes it look bigger compared to your head and body in the back ground.

  17. I’m a photographer (retired) and a lifetime member of the Professional Photographers of Canada. Last summer, while fishing a nearby lake popular with bathers and families enjoying the beach, I noticed a CTV local affiliate cameraman/urinalist setting up his covid panic story with exactly this in mind. He set up far back from the narrow grouping of people along the beach and I knew instantly what he was doing – both technically and ideologically.

    I confronted him immediately and he sheepishly answered that “he was pretty sure people would understand his story.” Lying bastard’s story was that the beach was crowded and people were ignoring “the rules” and THAT’S what his story would lead the public to understand.

    I made him understand exactly what I and most of the public believe about his ‘profession’ these days.
