Next Question

He’s a Liberal, Vivian.

(Someone requested a thread on the CPC leadership, so here it is.)

  1. Sloan > Lewis > The other two > Dairy Queen > ….. order of magnitude difference …. > Blackie.

  2. I’ve been approached by numerous candidates asking for monetary support and my vote. I tell them that our system is irreparably broken by the actions of the current government elected by Ontario and Quebec (and points east), that the Canadian union is not equal and is biased against places where maple trees don’t grow wild, and ask how they will help define the question for western separation. This is often greeted with a stammer, and only once has the caller tried to make that case that their candidate would be well placed to assist.

    1. C_Miner. That would be a typically ignorant response from a typically ignorant Canadian politician. Having been involved with the conservative party for decades, decades ago, I can say with much confidence that the current crop is as dumb as the the crop from 40 and 50 years ago. How the hell Canada even has a functioning government is a mystery to me.

      1. No disagreement, except that it wasn’t from the politician themselves. It was from those manning the phone banks. My thoughts were that the stammer meant that they hadn’t encountered that particular (obvious to me) question before, which means to me that they hadn’t thought through how the current one-sided political equation was likely to balance in the long term.

  3. The only one that “might” be Conservative is Sloan. Hopefully he gets rid of that Trudope look alike beard! The lady won’t make it.
We ALL remember whats-her-name ummm – Kim somebody that lasted 6 weeks!

  4. Wake me when one of them says “this apocalyptic climate change narrative is bullshit”.

    1. Derek Sloan has been saying it for a few weeks now.
He is going to end Paris accord and carbon tax. And I believe him. Because if he does not, I am going to haunt him for the rest of his life.

By God, your human check is the most annoying POS on the Internet!

      1. The PPC were the first to write down they would get us out of the Paris Accord.
Scheer will be remembered as the goof of Cdn politics with Joe Clark.
But we all know Canada is now dying fast.

  5. Gun owners vote for Derek Sloan.
ISIS sleeper cells vote for Erin O’Toole
Racially embarrassed vote for LL, can’t spell her.
LPC members vote for Peter McKay.

    1. Actually LPC members won’t vote for any of them, but they do hope he wins the leadership.

  6. “He’s a liberal “

    That’s what we call him.

At the laurentian club they call him the “right kind of conservative”, that they let into the club on those occasions when it looks like he might be thinking of leaving the plantation. They give him a couple of treats and tell him if he just does as he’s told they might actually let him become a member.

    1. With what? Hockey stick? Broom handle? 2×4? Feather duster? Quarterstaff with steel ferrules?

Or the boring kind at the election (which is much less likely)?

    2. Who has the best chance of beating Trudeau? None of the above. Though the CPC leader that might get the most votes for the CPC, enough to sustain Opposition status, is McKay, of the Eastern establishment, former boyfriend of Paul Desmarais’ daughter.

O’Toole is the best candidate, actually has some real life experience, but his personality and campaign methods are better suited to a bygone era. I believe the best Conservatives can hope for is the WE scandal prompts the LPC to force Trudeau to resign, but I DO think that’s more wishful thinking than reality. The CPC would have a good chance to defeat PM Chrystia Freeland, aka the Wicked Witch of the West, the only politician in Canada with less charisma than Andrew Scheer, but alas, the LPC brain trust knows THAT,too. The LPC elected a white liberal version of Obama, and the progressives here love Trudeau as much as the Yankee progs loved Barack.

When Trudeau won in 2015,I remember one of the long timers here, (might have been J. McMaster or Dan BC, but not sure), posting that we were going to be stuck with him for at least three terms. I agreed then and I agree now.

It’s a sad situation, but the only way out is Western separation, but none of the political fatcats in the West will promote that, and why should they, THEY are doing just fine with the country just as it is.

      1. Was probably Jamie, but I don’t disagree with that probability. The Canadian voter is easy to manipulate, and they have been lulled into a trance by his Hairness, over his reckless free spending ways. No one left out that doesn’t work, won’t work, and can fill out Liberal forms for largesse.
        He So Nice!
The CPC has decided to restore their past role as Libservatives. Andy Panda is a marble mouthed goomba, that has stuck around FAR too long for anyone’s good. No one listens to him. And if they choose McKay, a terrible mistake, they remain in the wilderness, but comfortably as the default official oppo. Must be their objective, to settle for second best.
They could have crushed Max for good. Instead, the CPC abandoned the right side of the spectrum, the PPC will show great improvement in the next election, and the clueless COC won’t know how that happened, when they lose a third of WC seats to Max.
        The Stupid Party.

    3. Well, with the PC media and establishment the black lady. But can she sing from a Conservative playbook; I’ve only heard big-tent liberalism from her. How about reducing the size of government rather than making it more efficient?

    4. Nobody can beat the Trudeau regime. They bought off all media and Canadians are fearful idiots. The right has an aardvark called Peter MacKay. He has been around so long he has dinosaur shit on his beak.

      And he’s a liberal.

  7. I don’t like him (McKay) because he interfered in the criminal case against Sven Robinson by writing a letter to the judge. He should have left that SOB hang out to dry.

  8. The black lady is just conservatives falling for tokenism. Have you heard or read her platform. She is more Liberal than MacKay. Sloane is the only non-Liberal. I want non of the above on the ticket. But the, we have a conservative party PPC all the way.

  9. The real problem is with the CPC backroom. After Reform compromised to form Alliance, the result was still too unacceptable for the Laurentian bitter clingers, and they held out until they could do another dilution merger and take over the resulting party.

It is Laurentians all the way down, and deconfederation is required.

  10. Mackay is a word salad aficionado…says all the right things to gin up the right people (real conservatives) then falls flat at the end of the day with a shrug of the shoulders and says “Yeah, whaddya gonna do?”
BTW…he’s been in politics now for 20 years, other than his bad choice of women, what the hell has he done other than being a pro politician not unlike Joe Clark or Brian “Bag o’ Cash” Mulroney and that Chinese Toad Stockwell Day and other supposed conservative Messiahs? And don’t get me started on that weasel dick Preston Manning.

Seriously, just FO Mackay. Conservatives are drowning, wanting some kind of a lifeline and you busy yourself by describing the water. Go back to N.S. and pick apples or whatever the hell it is you do over there.
BTW…has anyone else heard of O’toole, Sloan and Lewis???? Didn’t think so.
Someone please kick Rempel or Poilievre in the a$$ and tell him this country needs them now. Probably too late…I’m sure.
Rempel says it’s her lack of French that keeps her out of it…”aurevoir” is the only word you need to know hon. Get busy.

  11. MacKay lost it for me when he refused to talk to / ignored Keean Bexte of the Rebel asking a simple and reasonable question. If a Conservative candidate won’t even talk to the conservative media on the campaign trail, how bad would he be if he won?

    1. Is that recently? That would put me off too. Conservatives need to support conservative perspectives. Scheer had the same attitude towards Rebel. That’s when I lost faith in him. It allows the media party views to dominate, as Rebel is one of very few national conservative media outlets.

  12. Wexit is the only answer. There is nothing Trudeau and the Libs could do that would cause eastern voters to not vote for them. Nothing.

MacKay doesn’t get a redo. He quit the team when it was most important.
    He’s another Jim Prentice.

Sloan is the only one I would give the time of day to.

  13. Sloan seems to be running on the straight PPC platform, plus some social conservatism. He’s consistent in his messaging and he’s not wavering. I don’t like his social media censorship policy but he’s saying all the right things. Chatter among the people I know in the local riding associations is that he hasn’t got a chance.

  14. Mackay wants 450,000 immigrants per year. He is WORSE than Trudeau, if that’s possible, on open borders immigration.

Unfortunately Lynn Beyak isn’t running so in all likelihood I will be voting for Max once again.

    1. Good choice. Hes not mad, you know. The only Quebec politician that can draw a crowd in Alberta.

  15. Lewis and McKay don’t have seats in Parliament (and Lewis never has had one) and Trudeau will do to them what he did to the NDP – refuse to call a bi-election so the party will be leaderless in the House. Sloan is the only full conservative so he would get my first choice with O’Toole in second place.

  16. I do not care who rules the Blue tied side of our Uni-Party.
A pox on all their houses.
Enough already the West needs to get gone..
Independence is our only hope as the Eastern Canadian Voters have made it very plain what they value, what they like.
Fiscal Responsibility is political death in the East.
Who ever promises the most “free stuff” gets elected.
Free means enjoyed by the East, paid for by either the West or by those with children..Oh right, thats the West again.

    1. Yeah that’s where I am. Let me know when a exit candidate shows up and I’m all in.

  17. Peter Mackay has the best chance of defeating Shiny Pony, he has no chance of defeating the Liberals however, because he would be nothing better than a stealth Liberal himself.

    Wexit

  18. None from this group stand a hope in hell, so may as well go with the black woman so you can kick the liberals where they live. Oh wait, we’re talking about the CPC, they don’t kick anybody anywhere.

With Lewis you can go after Blackface McSpendy for his sexual misconduct and his racist blackface. She would have the moral high ground if she had the guts to go after him. I don’t see why it hasn’t been raised again with all that’s going on now. But the Conservatives are too afraid to be opportunists because they’re afraid that the media will say “they’re not nice people.” Hell, they’re politicians, you’d think they would have come to terms with that long ago.

  19. None of the above are capable of beating Prime Munchkin Freeland.

(Trudeau will be fine as will the moray Morneau).

  20. What does it matter? Chinada Province is already governed from Beijing.

The only thing that is going to change that is American tanks.

  21. The present CPC nominees do not have a proverbial snowballs chance in getting elected to power in the next election, and that is heartbreaking for me to announce. Conservative principles have been diluted and eroded over the last three generations to such a degree that if Winston Churchill re-appeared on the election circuit he’d be run out of town on a rail and no one would object. The pinnacle objective of a conservative is self reliance and personal responsibility, that is an absolute truth. The greater majority of Canadians today are no longer personally self reliant or responsible. Before that situation changes there will have to be a great reckoning, and the survivors will have to re-learn to be self reliant and responsible, maybe then they can dust off the American Bill of Rights and start over.

  22. The Media say we are a naturally progressive nation so those who are social and/or fiscally conservative can never win control of the Government. Trudeau’s claim that we are a ‘Post National Nation’ is coming true as we sink under a debt load requiring a De Gaulle effort to devalue our dollar: 1 New Dollar = 100 Old Dollars. Max may yet win seats by sticking with his Party’s Platform. I’ll put Sloan first just to tweak the collective noses of Party old boys.

  23. Not participating in this leadership vote this year. Don’t care who wins. I’m voting WEXIT.

Vivian Kraus is good at digging up taxable receipts. Other than that she is an utter dingbat .

  24. I know about four people including myself that voted last time but no longer have memberships this time.

The CPC is going to be a different and more leftist party this time.

  25. I got a ballot in the mail today and I’m not even a current member or future member.

I let my membership lapse years ago. Told supporter services to beat it several hundred times. This whole leadership race I had no phone calls / e-mails etc. In the last week I got at least one mailer from every candidate. 3 mailers from Timmy O’Toole a ballot and Door Knocker from Peter MacKay (which I wasn’t home for) What the actual heck.

  26. Sloan is the idiot bigot who can’t string a sentence together without proving he’s an idiot bigot. O’Toole is Scheer redux, an older white man with nothing new to say. MacKay is yesterday’s man, a red tory with no principles he won’t compromise to win. He’s my reluctant second choice. Leslyn Lewin is a socially conservative woman who understands that Canada isn’t socially conservative. She is willing to work with people who think differently. She is a black woman who rejects the stereotypes Liberals would pidgeon-hole her in to. She isn’t stupid, she isn’t a career politician, and she is genuine. I’ll voter for her and be happy if she wins.

  27. Sloan is most conservative but would be toxic in an election. I’ll give him 1st choice. O’Toole gets second because he is somewhat conservative and electable. Lewis gets 3rd because she is a long shot and light on some issues and experience. I won’t vote for a forth choice because I won’t give a vote to McKay under any circumstances. Now that the left is united against the conservatives, this is likely moot.

  28. The vindictive judgement of Mckay due to his past support under BAD leadership, is unfair… He seems to have a brain that MAY surprise Many when setting his own table…..Lewis is prompted by an expert support Group.. who are they?

    JMHO

  29. Lewis is the only one who will present any difficulty to frame. She will spend her time time defending her pro-life view . The Liberals have been and continue to control the narrative. If the CPC doesn’t learn how to take charge of the narrative they will be nearly wiped out in the next election. The Liberals have done enough to put most people in jail and yet they continue to constantly refuse to directly answer the simplest question.

  30. Sloan. Lewis. O’Toole, Wexit. Never want Mackay. If I wanted a Liberal I’d vote Trudeau. And I look forward to calling Liberals and dippers racists and misoginists for not supporting Lewis.

  31. As an Albertan voting for the next CPC leader is choosing between decapitation or burning at the stake. Both outcomes are the same one is just quicker than the other. The fact is Can’tada is broken. It was designed to be broken. Louis Riel recognized that fact in less than two decades after Can’tada came to be a confederation. Alberta Independence/Wexit is the only way forward. Ask Jay Hill.

  32. After testing with multiple accounts, and through web searches, I’m pretty sure my own little Twitter account is shadow-banned. Kate definitely is. Comments will only show up if you are logged in with an account that follows affected accounts. sneaky.

I wonder what I did to get Twitter-spanked. I don’t tweet often and most of what I say is pretty unexceptionable.

  33. To every email from O’Toole and MacKay I replied:

You can call on me after you state to defund the media cartel including the CeeBeeCee.

No reply and so no vote.

  34. Bit of a digression here –

(sorry but the tips thread was not yet opened)

    – but look who asked Bill Morneau of all people for help:

“South Korea’s finance minister on Friday asked his Canadian counterpart to support a Seoul minister’s bid to become the next director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki held telephone talks with Canadian Finance Minister Bill Morneau earlier in the day during which Hong emphasized South Korea’s role as an arbitrator among WTO members.

Morneau said Canada will “seriously review” Hong’s request, the ministry said in a statement. ”

  35. “I’m curious … what are your reasons for NOT supporting @PeterMacKay?”

I dunKnow, because MacKay is from a place in Canaduh that voted Liberal last election? or howz about MacKay waz that last PC leader and Western Canaduh soundly REJECTED the PCs, or howz about MacKay used to sleep with Belinda Stronach who ran for the leadership of the newly minted CPC, FAILED, and was quickly scooped up by the Liberal Party of Canaduh wherein she became an instant Cabinet Member?
You think Andrew Scheer was too spineless? Peter MacKay is a Damn Progressive.

    FUCK Canaduh. WEXIT!

    1. Ooz
“Peter MacKay is a Damn Progressive”…I believe you, and I say to you birds of a feather

  36. WEXIT……..nothing less. And I promise to clean the stables here, as well.

  37. Just check out McKay’s leadership team.
That should tell you all you need to know about him .
And he won’t talk to the rebel.
    He’s no conservative.

  38. Ladies and gentlemen, what is the point here? Western Canada pretty much holds all the blue seats, yet time and again, we get our marching orders from some backroom eastern Laurentian. When power does change hands, guess who decides we need to appease the east again? Seen this movie playing in too many theaters these past decades, and I’ve come to a decision, I’m no longer voting. Seriously, as a life long Conservative, watching a party hand me the likes of Kim Campbell, Joe Clark, Andrew Scheer, Stanfield, McKay, or any of this current slop, I can no longer participate. Come to me with a plausible alternative ie: the second coming, Wexit, or a leader with real stones, I may reawaken, but I’m done waiting for something that I know will never arrive.

The last leader we had, Mr. Harper, allowed himself to be beaten and abused, and surrendered his campaign instead of standing up and using the unlimited power he had at his disposal to end the cycle of violence. Now, the Liberals are making sure, they will never lose power again.

    1. Indiana Jane, Very well said, and I fully agree. I’m done too. Harper was my last choice, and when we lost him I gave up in disgust. He was a policy wonk, but he did a damn good job, the feral Libs hated him as much as the Demons hate Trump, but of course being Canada, they were much more snooty about it than the Americans. At least the US politics is entertainment on a grand scale, our politics puts me in to suspended animation…mostly, Trudeau for some “reason”, gets me animated and angry. If we stand back and look at where we are with politics in Canada, we have allowed the children to take over, and and they have destroyed everything. Our economy is dead, our dollar has eroded into Disney dollars, and China is calling the shots. Our best hope for value was the Alberta energy sector, and the Turd destroyed that as well. He/they don’t give a damn about the west, except as a piggy bank, and we are powerless to do anything but weep for Canada. I agree fully with Wexit, but I also know it will not happen, at least not in the next twenty years if ever. What a sad end this once great country has come to. I would leave, and go to a better place, but there are none left to go to! We are truly SCREWED!

  39. Those SDAers who are voting: note that this nomination election has a ranked ballot. So please vote Peter MacKay last, in fourth place.

    1. I voted Sloan first, Lewis second, left the other two blank. When they asked for ID, I sent the a copy of my PAL. Every gun owner should do that.

  40. It is amazing the Liebrals were once in a HOLE soooo deep there was NO way to get them out!!! What did they DO that the Conservatives can’t DO!!! If there is a WAY DO IT!! The Name Trudeau but he was a light weight so stupid he couldn’t talk properly and still can’t…so the CPC haven’t learned to USE THE TACTICS as Trudope team has. CPC get behind your LEADER NO MATTER whom it is!!! Come out FIGHTING for you PARTY as Canada NEEDS YOU!! Trudope and his Liebrals do a lot of Promising and NO follow through!! LEARN THE GAME CPC!! Sloan, Leslynn, O’Toole, ??? LET THEM CHARGE FORWARD HAVE THE GUTS!!
