An effective government might swear in volunteers for a lifetime of service as auxiliary constables of a provincial police force and require them to possess a military style weapon in the caliber of their choice. Have a mandatory call out once a year on Remembrance Day or as required which would be pretty much never.
This sounds like a very interesting idea. Most gun owners already have more gun training than police constables do anyway. Maybe with the requirement that they sight these rifles in and/or train with on crown or private land (with permission from landowner for private land if it’s not your own of course) at least once a year, more or less whenever practical? “Sighting in/training” would include target shooting, hunting and transporting of course. I don’t think it would be out of the question for government to supply appropriate ammunition for said training in addition to 2 weeks paid salary (by the government) for above noted “training”…likely to coincide with hunting season.
As an appeasement to liberals I think it would be advisable for the provincial government to also begin diversifying our economy by providing incentives for arms and ammo manufacturers to move to Alberta as well. Colt Canada? Any interest in supplying C7s or C8’s to the Alberta volunteer constabulary? 🙂
Any legal eagles have any comments on the viability of this? Sounds like a decent stop-gap measure until Alberta separates.

Why am I not surprised by the weasel language from the RCMP?
The weasel language is likely because the rifle was taken off the girl RCMP officer. The rifle would be a firearm very much like the American military M4 carbine or the Canadian military C8 carbine. When the RCMP own it it’s called a “patrol carbine”, if you or I owned it, it would be a “military style assault rifle whose only purpose is to kill large numbers of people”. THE RCMP don’t want to have to explain that to people.
That’s right. It’s a C8 Carbine, probably with a 30 round mag. But if I own something that looks like it, with a 5 round mag, it is called a military-style assault rifle. But if, as Trudeau says, it is designed to kill the most number of people in the shortest amount of time, why does the RCMP have it?
I think the C8 has a selector switch and internals for full automatic fire. By definition it is a military assault weapon. The average Canadian Restricted PAL holder cannot own one. They are illeagal for civilians to own.
Brian Lilley did an article about how many restricted firearms the RCMP had lost or have been stolen.
One of the restricted/prohibited carbines stolen was a C8 from the North Battleford RCMP detachment and another from Calgary police.

The military C8 has an auto-select switch. I read that the RCMP version is semi-auto. I have never seen a RCMP C8 so I don’t know for sure. I read the article you refer to and I even looked at the RCMP letter they sent. In 1995 they lost 10 “submachineguns”. Probably MP5s or something of the sort. How do you lose 10 of those? I guess one day you find out they are gone from the armory. And probably reappeared in some motorcycle club.

You don’t need to kill them rapidly. You can take upwards of 12 hours.
Automatic rifles perform better and will last longer when used in 3 to 4 round bursts.

There are more than two million of us and we should start working together, not continue to oppose and denigrate each other.
