    2. Wow. This old rocker, who was just praising the Strolling Bones for knocking one out of the park in their late 70’s … is weeping like a little girl listening to this incredibly tight band. And they’re all just so beautiful. And that voice! Wow! I can sit and watch her sing anything. I’ve never heard a Christmas Carol sung so beautifully.

      Nope. Once again, without Kate exposing me to things I’d never “google” on my own …

    The amateur radio station W0S operated from its grounds up to the centennial of the sinking. I made contact with it in 2011 over the AO-51 satellite.

    1. That is an amazing display. The Titanic Museum if you are in Branson is very interesting.

      1. The attention to details about that voyage has often surprised me.

        A few years ago, I checked the website and noticed the announcement that the museum had acquired a pair of King Charles spaniels. The reason for doing so was as a tribute to the animals who also went down with the ship.

        The ham station was, I believe, was in honour of Jack Phillips and Harold Bride, the Titanic‘s radio operators.

    I understand that newspapers printed a copy of the world map before the broadcast, and people referred to it while he spoke. From that, the audience understood what was at stake, particularly since he was blunt about what was happening. Yet, presentations like this raised the morale of the people, giving them a sense that they could win.

      1. One thing worked in FDR’s favour was his manner of delivery. He spoke in such a way that people felt reassured and could trust him and the government to help the country through desperate times.

        Prinz Dummkopf’s way of speaking clearly shows that he’s making it up as he goes along and isn’t doing it very well. Unfortunately, his cabinet ministers are equally as bad.

        2. The Roosevelt Museum in Hyde Park is s great place to visit — very fascinating. They have a wall of letters from citizens in response to the fireside chats. These are delightful to read. Roosevelts would get thousands and thousands each week.
          While in Hyde Park, you can visit the Culinary Institute of America restaurants. This is where Anthony Bourdin learned to cook. Fun place.

  10. So now that meat packers are shutting down and inevitably farms stop producing do you figure the great supply management system is about to be exposed? Remember the whole purpose here is to curtail production to keep prices high. What happens when production ceases in a system designed to barely meet demand? I guess a bunch of leftards are about to find out. Maybe milk Scheer will do a raise a glass.

    1. Steve Molyneux did a fine job in his piece. It’s a shame that the murderer didn’t get locked up 5-15 yrs for attempted murder of the 15 year old. What a shocking story. As we find out more about this hideous murderer, it gets more sickening.

      • the killer’s uncle, Alan Wortman, is a retired R.C.M.P. perhaps his fascination with cops began with his uncle. Maybe he acquired the uniforms from him, somehow.

Nope the SCOTUS ruled that the Interest was building beyond sustainability and froze that rate for funds before ~1985… What is wrong is that the Payroll Taxes are treated as General revenue and become a paper transaction out of names of owners and by theory the Trust is updated (balanced).. a huge hole exists

      I was wondering as I lay awake, unable to sleep, just how many people actually know anyone who has died from the virus, do they know anyone who has had the whoowho flu? During the seasonal flu everyone knows someone who has or has had the flu. I don’t know of single person who has been sick or died from this. No one and none of family knows anyone, none of my friends knows anyone. Where the heck are all the sick people?
      The nursing home deaths are sad, but, it would seem the nursing home problem requires a criminal investigation.

        One of my brothers living in the US had Wuhan flu. He has now recovered, but is still rather weak. Unlike Chris Cuomo, he quarantined as soon as he had symptoms and didn’t leave his residence. Although his state says quarantine until 3 days after symptoms stop, he elected to follow Canadian guidelines and stay quarantined for 10 days after his symptoms stopped. He had a friend drop off groceries and supplies at his door. Once his buddy went back to the street, he stayed there until my brother brought the groceries inside. They didn’t want people to steal his groceries.

        Sister in law has an elderly mother with pre-existing conditions in a seniors care facility. She is quite worried. Brother and sister in law figure it is only a matter of time before she gets Wuhan flu. Hopefully not, but senior care home stats don’t look good.

          1. OWG, Orwellian can be interpreted in several ways, and I am concerned about some of them.

            But let me answer this way; I think that 60 to 70% of the population will get the virus and then herd immunity will develop and the virus will die off. We can now categorize the most vulnerable people who are the most likely to die.

            The choice is how to develop herd immunity, whilst killing the fewest numbers of people, recognizing that 70% of the population are likely to get infected. We are not having that discussion, except perhaps in Sweden.

      2. OWG: Had news yesterday of an acquaintance who has died last week of Covid19. She was a very wealthy, elderly person living in Ecuador.
        Have not had such news of anyone else I know In Canada or the States. Statistically, should I be having a problem with that?

        1. Statistically the death rate is 0.1 to 0.2% of cases. lower than the seasonal flu. If she was as old as me she would be on a DNR list. I am sure that I will die if I get the flu and am unable to shake it myself.

          1. i took a look at the stats for Lombardy in a couple places on the internet. Here is what I found.

            Deaths in Italy from Wuhan virus:

            98.9% were 70 and older
            84% were 60 and older

            Lombardy is the region of Italy with the most virus deaths; 13106. Assuming same age group death rate as Italy proper we get:

            Under age 60 deaths = 142
            60 and over deaths = 12964

            Lombardy population under 60 is 6 million. So deaths are 0.002% of population under 60

            Lombardy population 60 and older is 2.9 million. So deaths are 0.4% of population over 60.

            Major CAUTION and this is very, very, important: not everyone in these age groups has caught the disease. If we ASSUME that infection rate was 10% of the population in each age group, then multiply the death percentages above by 10 to get; 0.2% for under 60 and 4% for 60 and older.

  21. Canada has conducted 707,508 COVID tests. 48,065 positive tests. So what illness did the 659,000 people have?

    I suppose there may be a lot of tests on medical professionals, and some tests on people with close contact to an infected person, but I thought that most provinces were testing only people with COVID like symptoms.

    1. People with asthma are getting tested because an asthma flare-up has all of the symptoms of COVID except perhaps the low-grade fever.

  29. OWG has a point. Where are all the sick people? There are zero in our family and community and we are in constant contact with the outside world because our son works at the potash mine and daughter-in-law at the nursing home; two places where workers were declared essential. It’s been great to have the grandchildren since day care homes are all closed. Our cousin and her husband who spent January touring India have not been sick.
    The only sickness we’ve seen in our family is a niece and her husband and two children who went to Cuba for New Years. The food and water in Cuba is not up to our standards and unfortunately they all became very sick with upset stomachs.

    1. Not asking you to disclose actual location, can you describe realities of your county, urban rural, state prov whatever.

      Higher densities seem factor, as does public transit, as does proximity to international travel. As does clusters of foreign workers due to numbers in home, cultural habits etc.

      Thoughts?

      1. Hi Ron. We live in rural Sask. but I make a point of asking relatives I’m in contact with if they know anyone or know about any people with the virus. Saskatoon? Calgary? Vancouver? Portland Or? friends back from their winter homes in AZ?
        I’m not hearing anything. Just lucky I guess.

    Laura interviewed the Nevada Osteopathic Medical Association President Dr Bruce Fong who is suing the Nevada Govenor over banning this drug in Nevada to treat cases of COVID 19.

    Time will tell how this will be decided. Is there any time?
