    1. Post those stupid links somewhere else. I have a high tolerance for divergence of opinion here, but even I have my limits. Any claim that “only two people” have died of this virus is unworthy of this blog audience. Do better.

      1. Actually, I was not previously familiar with that blog, so did not fully appreciate the potential for misinformation. I will be more cautious. However, the claim is not that there were only two deaths, but that only two “who did not present other pathologies. ” It is someone from the Italian Institutes of Health who was being quoted, but maybe he was trying to reassure people at the time. So much confusion right now. I apologize for adding to the confusion.

        1. 99% OF DEATHS ARE IN THOSE WITH A PRE-EXISTING HEALTH CONDITION

99 per cent of coronavirus deaths in Italy are patients with existing medical problems, a study by the country’s health service has found.

Research into 355 deaths found that only three of the victims, 0.8 per cent, had been clear of illnesses before they were infected.

Nearly half of them – 48.5 per cent – already had three or even more health conditions before they were diagnosed with Covid-19.

Another 25.6 per cent had two other ‘pathologies’, while 25.1 per cent had one.
The research by Italy’s National Institute of Health is consistent with previous findings that people with existing illnesses are more likely to die from coronavirus.

    2. It wasn’t the rape and strangulation that killed them, it was the short skirt they were wearing.

These guys would fit into the Chinese Communist Party Bureaucracy without a hiccup. “These old folks obviously died of completely predictable causes, it is just coincidence that 5,000 of them died this week with just a touch of pneumonia too.”

  1. I’ve withdrawn from the hysterics. Today I went out and cut a load of firewood- getting ready for next year. Felt good being on the chainsaw.

Tonite I got on YouTube and listened to 6 versions of Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most. A beautiful ballad. I like Betty Carter’s take on it.

Miles said, ” I’ve quit playing ballads I love them too much.”

Spring Cam Really Hang You Up is one of those ballads.

    1. I enjoy your posts — “cutting a load of firewood” — sounds so normal. I really miss normal.

      1. LindaL

Thankyou. I try to make my life ‘normal’ in an abnormal world. I have family, friends, dogs, I cook from scratch and I hang out in the bush and go to a concert when it suits me.

No television in my house but it’s loaded with radio. No cbc no faux. Maybe it’s easier where I live because of geography. Ranchers and farmers tend to be pretty grounded to use a bad pun.

      1. OK

Ella – What can you say that hasn’t been said.

I met her once. Purely happenstance at a street side magazine vendor in BH. I had a girlfriend at the time who lived there ( ya I know it sounds like bullshit – a guy from rural AB – I moved in a different circle in those days).

We had been to an Ella concert at the Hollywood Bowl on a Wednesday. A warm evening, everything was perfect. Ella came on stage in a beautiful blue chiffon dress. She was up in age and suffered health issues but this nite she radiated. Tommy Flanagan on piano, Keter Betts bass, Joe Pass on guitar. It was magic.

Friday morning I went out looking for something to read. Magazines were still big in those days and there was a sidewalk magazine stand that had an extensive selection. I headed over there and was browsing when I saw this little lady with a red nylon jacket, the kind a kid might wear in high school. She wasn’t made up by any description but she was Ella.

I observed her for a moment and went for it – ha. I told her I was a fan and had been at the Bowl concert. I blurted out I had seen her on tour with Oscar in Canada. I guess I was gushing but she was most gracious and talked about the tour with OP. We chatted for a few moments and when she left she went to her car and called me over. The car was illegally parked at the curb but no Beverley Hills cop is going to ticket Ella! She gave me an 8×10 pic of herself singing in full flight. It was a cool moment in ones life that happened by pure serendipity.

  2. Maybe, but I do not believe that the well being of the population is top of mind with these politicos and their shutting down of the economy. It’s a power grab, but the asteroids could cause damage. A few days ago I was half – thinking it might even lead to disclosure (aliens), but no -‘ it’s about power and control.

    1. LindaL:

Just to say that I really appreciate your posts and am pretty well 100% on board with your concerns about the new totalitarianism.

Randolph Bourne: WAR IS THE HEALTH OF THE STATE.

The quote often draws a blank so: basically state power rises in the time of war but does not recede to the earlier pre-war plateau. IOW, it ratchets up, and up and UP.

As even many of our rulers, managers and planners say: THIS IS WAR.

    2. oh Linda my compadre, it is ALL about POWER.
because I am not that way, it took ages for me to realize there are those among us who will sacrifice
A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G to acquire and wield power.
history tells it to us regularly. lots of ‘overlap’ in fact.

  3. BC is the hotzone if the country at this moment. They setup a simple JavaScript site to assess yourself to see if you should be tested. If you had contact with a confirmed case and have symptoms you can get tested, if not you won’t.

They have a big backlog of test results here they’re trying to clear. The provincial health officer is very cadgey when asked pointed questions.

I went shopping for a soon to be repatriated family who will be quarantined upon return and it’s surreal out there now. There were more staff than customers (I picked the store based on parking lot situation). If you saw another customer in an aisle there’s this kind of awkward dance… Who’s going to move well away first. Everyone was doing it. Move away from the potential wuflu victim. I hate that I was right. I really do.

  4. Next Bill Gates’ brain trust will tell us that if German authorities had acted sooner, meanwhile, they could have prevented the deaths of most of Germany’s Jewish population!

For heaven’s sake! Causing a global pandemic and bringing the west to its knees was the whole point of the exercise!

    1. Causing a global pandemic and bringing the west to its knees was the whole point of the exercise!

Bioweapons are cheaper than nukes and, once the enemy has been killed off, one can use the real estate at ground zero.

  5. What a great hockey player — Pavel Datsyuk must’ve scared the goalies out of their wits when they saw him coming. He pocketed the puck perfectly — just reminds one of the way Pocket Henri Richard used to do. Datsyuk is a dancer on the ice and was also a marvelous soccer player. The king of stickhandling had a new ‘air’ stick with holes in it. Do all players use that now? Whistle, whistle!

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavel_Datsyuk

    1. A great player Datsyuk, no doubt. However he was no where to be found in the 2009 Stanley Cup final series loss to the Penguins in seven games. Totally disappeared. I know, I’m a Wings fan.

      1. I’m just a fan, I’m not a hockey statistician. In fact, I missed that whole series, quite frankly. I used to see the pros play when there was (the original) 6 teams in the NHL but became less interested after the expansion. But I do like greatness when I see it.

That said, I couldn’t find whether Datsyuk dressed for game 7 but his injuries were more serious than first reported. Found this info from 2 sources:

In the 2009 Stanley Cup final series Pavel Datsyuk missed the first 4 games due to injury. It was due to hip injury which was passed off as a foot injury.

        https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Stanley_Cup_Finals

This found on another web link:
By George Malik | MLive Contributor
“Last night, the CBC went to great lengths to explain that Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk has not missed time because of a supposed bone bruise in one of his feet, but instead, because he suffered a hip injury attempting to check a Chicago Blackhawk.”

Pavel Datsyuk left Detroit for Russia in 2016.
His 2 Stanley Cup wins were in 2002 and 2008.

  6. “In line with others entering Canada, all would-be refugees arriving at the Roxham Road border crossing into Quebec from New York state will be quarantined in temporary housing for 14 days, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said. She also said she had spoken to all the premiers about the issue.”

    https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/abnormal-becoming-new-normal-amid-tight-covid-19-restrictions-more-cases/ar-BB11oK5r?ocid=spartandhp

Odd this. I recall that we were told Roxham Road had been shut down. What else are they lying to us about?
Virus, Asteroids or Aliens, how ironic that we have the most inept government in history at this moment of crises.

    1. I would like to know more about who is coming in via illegal entry points. If they can move these people to isolation, they can shut down entry. At Roxham it used to be Nigerians — about 85% of whom claimed they needed asylum because they were bi- sexual ( no joke — this was in the newspaper because those processing claims were getting concerned that there was abuse of the system). Anyway, with the system shut down, how are Nigerians or others still getting to the States? Numbers are not insignificant — presumably 800 on the weekend and 80 per day. Who are they?? Leaving this gate open sends a clear signal that the government does not have the well- being of Canadians front and centre.

  7. Two muslim men have been arrested for the murder of a tow truck driver, in the ongoing tow truck wars in the diverse Toronto area.

Diversity is our strength! -Blackie The Muslim Tow Truck King

    1. The muzzies are involved in an insurance scam. It involves tow trucks and body shops.

Vehicles are picked up at accident scenes and placed in storage yards owned by the towing company. If the vehicle is repairable it is directed to a body shop owned by the towing company.

If it’s not repairable outrageous storage rates are billed to the insurance company.

It’s a scam run by organized criminals. Murder is obviously used to enforce the rules.

  8. True North website reports that Blackie The Gay Pirate is still looking for a place to put migrants walking over the border into isolation. Just where exactly are they going right now? And your Canadian Unifor news this morning. Blackie is wonderful, the Liberal Party is wonderful. China has solved its virus problem. China is wonderful. Trump is Hitler, Doug Ford is Hitler. Jason Kenney is Hitler. Canadians are racist bastards.

  9. A gun without ammo is a club.
    https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/unprecedented-gun-and-ammunition-sales-spike-amid-coronavirus-spread-1.5502092

“This idea that guns are needed for self defence, and in times of crisis you have to be able to protect yourself and guns are required… that’s completely contrary to the social contract that we as citizens share in a country like Canada: that we’ll take care of one another in a time of crisis,” said Dr. Nadja Ahmad from Canadian Doctors for Protection from Guns.

Nadja’s about as delusional as the lisping actor playing the prime minister.
I don’t recall signing on to that contract.

And then there’s the impending alien invasion to consider. . .

  10. And now your question for today. Are social justice warriors mentally ill? The Liberal Party’s Toronto Star reports that a well known social justice activist has set himself on fire in diverse Toronto, and then stabbed himself to death.

  11. So, Trudeau “chairs” a Cabinet meeting today, even though he is at Rideau Cottage. Sounds fishy to me. There was that glitch the other day in the Itinerary announcement which had Freeland chairing the meeting and speaking to the public. Then they sent out a correction. I guess they realized this let the cat out of the bag that Trudeau is not really the one in charge. Also, it’s very funny he has not been tested. Surely a negative test would let him go back into circulation. I have no faith in the ability or the honesty of this government. They are the absolute worst.

    1. That cat was never in the bag. Juthtin is a well know idiot stick I mean figure head who jutht talkth nithely.

  12. A convenient way to clamp down on the yellow jackets. I hope the French do not put up with this. It will only encourage other governments to follow suit.

  13. Can you imagine what the Wuhan pandemic would be like if we lived in a gang green world?

Most people sitting at home and enjoying the frequent brownouts and blackouts as batteries run out, and intermittent wind power can’t keep up. Heaven forbid it should rain and the solar power go down too.

    Enjoy cold soup.

    1. I’m sure there are a few who made a nice bundle by shorting the market as well.

  14. If as the CCP reports, and the main stream media parrots, there are no new Wuhan virus cases in China, why are people leaving China on flights to Vancouver and Toronto?

Could they know something that isn’t being reported?

  15. It’s Spring!

A guys thoughts naturally turn to…Ann Margaret singing, ‘It Might as well be Spring’. A Rogers/Hammerstein tune from State Fair.

    Think nice thoughts.

      1. NR

Nice selection in a cool time signature.

I am not familiar with Lauren Henderson or Glenn Zaleski. Will have to check them out.

        Thanks

  16. Distracting facts.

The Calgary Herald Friday March 20, 2020 infested with COVID-19.
There are 56 pages in todays paper.
There are 20 pages that have no exact description on them.
Of those 6 are full page adds. 3 pages of obits. Markets, adds and comics 4 pages.
Rest of the pages without mention are in sports and driving.

The name of the virus spelled out in exact “COVID-19” description in sections.
    1st section 79 times
    2nd NP section 38
    3rd sports section 7
    5th entertainment section 1
    6th FP section 24
7th Driving or car section 5
Total of exact description of the thing is 154

There of course is the possibility that one or two were missed.

Not included in the count are descriptions like “corona virus” or any other.

And now you can tell who’s got a lot of time on his hands.

  17. In any given week, 12300 (rounded off) people in Italy die. Italy has almost 25% of its population over age 60, definitely a contributing factor, so I’ll make it easy for you and use my poor math skills.
Italy has a population of 65.5 million people. The death rate in 2019 was 10.6 per thousand people.
That would be 65,000 sets of 1000. 65000 times 10.6 divided by 52 weeks. Plus it’s winter. Old people die in greater numbers in winter. Don’t ask me why, I only know I go to more funerals in winter.. It’s a fact of life, or should I say, life and death.
You can check my math, in fact I would appreciate it if you did.
I tried to post this with a link to the data set I used for calculations but it must have been caught in the spam filter

    1. “Old people die in greater numbers in winter”

Probably because their ambition becomes “I want to live one more Xmas”.
Or more likely spend one more Xmas with my family.
      And then they are content.

My wife saw it many times over her career.

  18. On Italy’s lockdown.
Ok so in any given week, over 12000 people will die in Italy. I have been reading that the Wuhan flu deaths are in addition to the normal deaths.
It occurred to me that Italy is in total lockdown, no large gatherings, no football matches, no nightclubs or restaurants to go to, just grocery stores and pharmacies open, so where are the normal deaths coming from? Amybody care to venture a guess, or are you like me, growing increasingly skeptical of global health reporting? Check out the roads.

  19. Some are worried that Canada won’t have enough migrant farm workers to plant and harvest crops.

    https://www.google.ca/amp/s/business.financialpost.com/news/retail-marketing/broccoli-has-to-be-hand-cut-travel-limits-squeezing-flow-of-seasonal-workers-to-fruit-vegetable-farms/amp

Uhm, university students nows your time to step up. Be green, plant and harvest veggies. Pick fruits.

Trudeau, the press spokesperson for the Liberal government could do so also. As could Catherine McKenna.

  20. The CBC will be outraged. Hitler Harper has been appointed to the Alberta committee for economic recovery. Now Blackie can blame Harper again. And the Liberal Party’s CBC had the former Obama ambassador on blaming evil Trump for closing the border and ranting that Trump is doing a terrible job. Finally Rex Murphy and Conrad Black have new stories at the National Post.

  21. Global News at 6 pm had this interesting piece:
These guys have revamped their business model in the slow season and are now busier than ever! They are delivering groceries, liquor and other necessities to our neighbourhoods here in Calgary to people who are shut-ins due to WuFlu.
    Yes, in kilts:
