Inching Closer to a Totalitarian Dictatorship

Throughout history, what is one of the key modus operandi of totalitarian regimes? They clamp down upon and eventually eliminate all dissent.

Why then is the Liberal Government of Canada taking the very illiberal actions of propping up the State Broadcaster and clamping down on what all media outlets can say? Canadians should be outraged by this but the numb minds of the NPCs which currently make up the majority of the Canadian electorate seem entirely fine with it.

When Mark Steyn and Maclean’s magazine went through their ordeal with the BC Human Rights Tribunal in 2008, it became clear through countless conversations that many Canadians felt “the government officials will make the right decision about what can and can’t be said”. When asked, “who are these people to make such decisions?”, there was absolute silence. Sadly, such silence will likely be the case once again.

  1. This is madness.

The easterners think Western Canada is solely pissed about the oil.

There are many issues with continuing as a member of Canada, interprovincial “equalization” / welfare and interprovincial inequality in the number of MP’s and Senators allocated to each province.

Interprovincial trade barriers. The manner in which Quebec is fellated at every step by the federal gov’t.

Funding of the CBC while less than 5% watch their tier 2 network.
The entirety of the “human rights” tribunals.
    Our lack of property rights.
Our bullshit “freedom of speech” laws
    The gun registry, still !

Now they want to regulate internet news?

    Fuck off Liberals.

    We’re done.

    1. Precisely.

I have no ties to the oil industry beyond buying gas.
I want out because the job of fixing the authoritarianism and corruption is just too large.
Our society can not be saved within Canada, and even attempting to do so one can expect persecution from state officials, while the state officially denies what they are doing.
Canada is no longer a nation, simply a notion.
      #Wexit

      1. D m, everything you consume would cease to be without fossil fuels. Your life like all our lives is 100% dependent on oil, from the clothes on your back to the food on your table, maybe even the table itself.

    1. Warning. If Redmonton is included in Wexit, there will be problems. After doing business there last week, it was painfully obvious that the city is intent on tracking each and every one of its citizens, in ways you can’t imagine.
      The ball is already rolling!

      1. Of course, if Edmonton came along as part of Rupertsland, it would be fun to see how the city council’s power slowly erodes.

  2. Conservatives are fine with this stuff too as long as it’s aimed the other tribe. There’s no defenders of freedom left, and there haven’t been for a very long time. It’s just the pretension that’s been mostly shed.

    1. Tell us who are these defenders of freedom gone before us. Let’s see if you have any idea what freedom is.

      1. Democracy Watch is a defender. They do good work. Duff Conacher gets it.

They should be supported before you send another dime to any political party.

        1. You think freedom is about money? Really?

Money is at most a means to the end of being able to fight wars, and win them—or, failing that, make any victory of the enemy not worth the cost.

Men only remain free for long if any enemy daft enough to try to enslave them is guaranteed to destroy himself in the attempt.

The Jewish people have ensured that the next attempt at a Holocaust will be the last. All they have to do is use a few well-placed atomic bombs to set off the nuclear arsenals of their enemies and let them destroy each other.

That is why, after 2000 years, the Jews are free.

The correct answer, by the way, is the judge Samson, who understood it is better to die free than live as a slave—and make sure your would-be masters die with you.

          1. Strawman.

“Money is at most a means to the end of being able to fight wars”

Incorrect. Money is a claim on wealth to aid in the trade of goods.

        2. “A strong advocate for war in the early 1940’s, he went to work for the U.S. Federal government at the Division of War Research and as an adviser to the Treasury Department, where he recommended increasing taxes to suppress wartime inflation and devised the first system of income tax withholding.”

          https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/milton-friedman.asp

          Let me repeat:
          1. “strong advocate for war in the early 1940’s”
          A. War is (usually) waged by the military — a socialist institution.
          B. Did America’s freedom quotient increase or decrease due to that war?

          2. “devised the first system of income tax withholding” — does that sound like defending freedom?

          1. Milton’s views changed.

“Did America’s freedom quotient increase or decrease due to that war?”

Increased. Aggression by imperial Japan and Germany is a bit worse than an income tax.

          1. Nope, I have heard you enough number of times to know where you were going with that. This infatuation with libertarian ideals because kill Jooooos is common among those like you.

    2. Those double plus ungood conservatives refusing the defend your freedom to rape and murder infidels.

    3. Agreed. Freedom’s a fine idea, but in the choice between freedom for my enemies to engineer my downfall, and my survival by slaughtering those enemies, I’d be forced to choose survival every time. I suspect most conservatives are the same. Heck that’s human nature 101. Why are regressives like Democrats so blind to reality?

Given the choice between us going to gulags, and you lot going to gulags, I vote we send you lot. Surely can’t be THAT surpising to you, no?

      1. Given that no one is actually going to send you to gulags (your retirement home is close enough), it sounds like yet another bullshit rationalization for more conservative hypocrisy.

        1. And THAT is exactly what my neighbour’s relatives bet the farm on in Germany, circa 1930 (she left in 1934 and moved to a Commonwealth country). Her family laughed at her paranoia. They’re not laughing now.

I am far from retirement. I always knew you were a bigot, though, so thanks for clearing that up.

And I do not trust you, nor any other regressive. You are extremely dangerous people, once you get power

          1. The only people throwing people into camps are ICE separating parents and putting them in cages.

  3. Maclean’s Magazine solved their problem with Blackie by going full communist and letting Michael Coren rant from time to time about homosexual sex.

        1. The same Anglican church that left me / that I left 15 years ago when they decided that gay rights needed to be fought for, and the old Testament suppressed?

          Gee, what a shock.

          1. Regressives are everywhere. They want a return to the sexual depravity and lawlessness of ancient Corinth, and Caligulan Rome. It is us forward-thinkers who figured out 2,000 years ago that only bad things come from treating any and all sex perversion as harmless. Like pederasty, mass rape as political punishment, the overthrow of marriage, Caligula-style, people marrying their horses.

Seriously, this shit is so incredibly old-school. I am a true progressive. I believe humanity progressed beyond this depravity. True conservatives like UnMe want to take us back to Philip of Macedon’s court of pedophiles and pederasts… I want humanity to keep moving forward.

And persisitently fornicating with a person’s digestive tract simply isn’t ever going to end well. For anyone. This is a medical fact that people are going to have to relearn the hard way, courtesy of conservative regressives like UnMe.

          2. LOL. How cute. It’s pretending that it has any understanding of history or morality.

Again: society left you behind. Bye.

          3. “It’s pretending that it has any understanding of history or morality.”

            Talk about projection.

Was it before mooselimbs invented calculus? Or was it after Canada invaded Weimar Republic?

  4. That we still tolerate Human Rights Commissions, tells me we are doomed.
    Civil society will not survive.
Our “Senate” is currently seeking to banish a member for having an opinion that differs from the woke majority.
We are told daily how racist and intolerant we be.
    Lied too endlessly.
That “new Country” had better limit government to a tiny fraction of the population.
Otherwise we continue to repeat the mistakes that bankrupted Canada.

You have to love a population so “well educated” that they trust the judgement of people who have bankrupted them as a nation, sold their children into slavery and shutdown productive activity in industry. But they will trust these same fools and bandits to ensure the truth and only the truth shall be heard?
But we “owe” them their pensions for the “public service” provided.

    1. Not going for you..yet.
They are after Kate, Ezra, and Sheila Gunn Reid…for starters.

And how is Her Majestys Loyal Opposition responding to this??

  5. The woke ideologists and their brown shirt pc and antifa mafia are in charge
    of schools
    looneyversities
    media
    bureaucracies
    judiciary
    etc
    its by design
    we are hooped
    inevitable end point

  6. That”minister” looks like a serial killer.. and in future he just might be.. Another loon running us.. Snarly is still attacking us as well.

  7. The trendline disturbs me.

Through legislation, the government is increasingly intruding on provincial and individual rights. Buying off the media. Now seeking to outright control the media. Elections Canada dragging in people for writing books critical of the PMO. Enforced ideological conformity for summer jobs grants. Interference in natural resource projects. Collecting banking information without permission. Wanting to reinstate the flawed Human Rights Commission. The list goes on and on.

This creeping authoritarianism shows no signs of abating. It actually seems to be picking up speed. Then there’s the increasingly bold corruption and judicial interference. Canada isn’t the place it used to be.

    1. What’s equally as frightening is that many of our fellow citizens see nothing wrong in this. The excuse that’s used is if one hasn’t done anything wrong, one has nothing to fear and, of course, that’s all for the good of the country and for our safety.

      1. I think most people don’t understand the concept of freedom or its importance. The old “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone” problem.

      2. BA

Yea, and I am 100% CERTAIN this same argument was used in the waning days of the Wiemar Republic…

Dont worry – Seig Heil mensch.!!

    2. Some things improve, others worsen. MJ legalization and gay marriage are improvements. Free trade agreements and increased immigration too. These media arrangements are quite frightening back steps. The banking information collection and surveillance in general likely require a technological ‘engineering’ level solution ex cryptocurrency, ProtonMail

      1. Ugh sure, property rights, freedom of speech, freedom of association, cars, guns, dogs etc all take a hit but you can get sodomized while smoking a joint so for you it kinda evens out.

        1. Ok so you like to take it from immigrants, that is not relevant but explains your agitation for more imports. It does not change the fact that freedom has been restricted where it counts to normal people and only expanded where it counts to pathetic losers like you.

          1. Keep pretending that it is freedom you after. Then do your standard convoluted gymnastics and conclude that less freedom is more freedom.

      2. Yes, not getting thrown into jail for consuming a substance no more dangerous than alcohol was important. As was legalizing gay marriage.

Those should have been added to our core freedoms. But, we are losing our core freedoms. We should not have to resort to hiding our money in bitcoin because the government is invading our banking privacy. We should not have to find workarounds for free speech, free expression, free press, free thought, etc. Hate crime laws are used to justify compelled speech and enforce anti-science wokeness.

Seeing rights and freedoms as a plus/minus calculation won’t work.

        1. Your problem is that you have started from a false premise.

My rights were not granted to me by any human authority. If you think your rights are decided by the guy who sat in front of you in grade nine, or the hot chick in the other home room, …

        2. That is a fair point. Here’s the thing: your core freedoms were actually much more threatened over much of the 20th century than you realized. FDR and Wilson were despots. Police accountability basically didn’t exist in the ’50s. Then there’s Jim Crow. Even freedom of speech was not that good there was all kinds of censorship. The fight is not new.

  8. All this horse puckey just to produce the illusion that the unwashed masses love their great leader…..

  9. Women are offended by free speech, and they vote.

If guys who sexually assault women call themselves feminists and use soft language for the little women, they get re-elected.

Pretty boys using pretty language is more important to female voters and liberal guys than any argument for free speech in Canada.

Education, entertainment news media, wealthy celebrities, politicians, all train people to be liberals and therefore offended by a different point of view. Totalitarianism is the only answer now for these people, they have no concept or capacity to think of any other.

  10. Pity that the Tories and many in the MSM aren’t railing against this latest intrusion/incursion on free speech
by the Liberals and their cohorts, the CBC. If the Tories snd other MSM have time to bother responding to and citing the CBC, I no longer have time to respond to the Tories or listen to or read the other MSM.

    1. cc

The TORIES as you call them, have 100% Capitulated to WOKE – Climate Change Anti Free Speech – Pro Islam – Pro UN BS.

All the the while kissing the MSM’s Ass…..all as directed by the Laurentien Elite. In case you did not know, it was ALWAYS thus.

Political Conservatism is nowhere to be found in Canada. DEAD
      Canada completely DE-Educated (BRAINWashed).
and there’s not a goddamned thing anyone of us in the west can do about it but LEAVE….STAT.

  11. “Well what’s wrong with it, if you aren’t doing anything wrong why should it matter?” Standard Canadian response.

Bullshit. It does matter. Every little bit matters. I heard this week that Canada’s internet is the most regulated in the OECD.

Canadians could care less as long as FB Instagram and Twitter are operating – all’s well. Rights are lost by degree. Every degree should be a battleground.

  12. “…Canadians should be outraged…”

    Exactly. But it ain’t happening.
A bit of furious typing, perhaps, but certainly no outrage.

  13. At one point they’re going to have to start blocking US sites since the information can be posted down here. I wonder how they plan to do that.

    1. I dunno they block the Super Bowl ads ffs. Not good for Canadian’s to see a taco bell ad…..

      1. Watched the game – saw every commmercial.
        And paid SFA for ability.
Its an app Called KODI – Using an Nvidea Shield (Android streaming box).
I also use Stremio also an app using above box.

Have not paid for TV in over 3 yrs. I got tired of paying some $135/month for a shit ton of channels that for the most part were duplicates, watching shows that were more commercials than the show itself…
All we have here is Internet. 75mb/sec
        No home phone
        No TV box
        No Alexa
        No Smart TV
        Saving over $120/mo doing it.
Can Watch ANY Digitized Product . without interruption
        ZERO Commercials.
Any: Movies – Series – Documentaries – News if you want
Only thing I paid for was NHL Live & U-tube Premium

Both apps are free – avail or Android – Apple products
More content than one could ever want..!!

  14. There is no opposition to this totalitarianism from the Cons or any other political party in the House. WEXIT is the only solution.

  15. Read up the bio on Janet Yale.

Lawyer. McGill. UoT. Resume builder, CEO of non-profits, Arthritis society, Scouts, CARE, was on the board of Telus years ago, but her record seems a trifle sketchy with missing periods of time. Her press conference was a joke, effectively stating (sic) “You DEPLORABLES need MOAR CBC!!!” She’s a professional BUSYBODY

Another Laurentian Elite member telling us how ignorant we are! Why didn’t she call for the re-education camps?

  16. This MP Guilbeault was apparently on CBC Cross Country Checkup.
Did anyone take one for the team and tune in to CBC? I found out too late to tune in.

  17. I expressed my disgust at my unread and soon dead site mediadebug.com, twice, the first a long winded rant (the green reaper) prior to the thugs grilling Ezra. My friends trust the media and so my outrage isn’t well received, at all.
To me, the media , CBC-vil and friends are the enemy of liberty but my attempts to explain it triggers the crap out of people who trust the media to inform them. Regardless, i am not convinced the country will wake in time. On the other hand, Trump’s swamp draining might crack open the door on our own corrupt institutions. Our leaders don’t have the stones

  18. “We are not censors, we just happen to know what is right, and would like to make sure everyone reports on it.”

    Is that about it?

  19. Funny that most people don’t even think twice about the taxes we pay. They accept it as normal that the government needs to know who we work for and how much we make. What our house is worth, what vehicles we own and if we are allowed to own guns. How many kids do we have and are they being “properly” educated. I believe the government now has access to all of our banking records as well without warrant via statscan. The list could go on and I’m not sure there is any way to reverse it, for once that ball is put in play it is VERY hard to take it off the field. This is all considered normal and acceptable by the vast majority of Canadians (and Albertans), including every single “conservative” government Canada has ever had in my lifetime.

Most of us will die knowing only an increasing level of tyranny and government intrusion in this country. (And although I support Alberta separatism I doubt it will stave off any significant level of government growth). The vast majority of people in this country crave a government that takes responsibility and control of their lives.

    Enjoy the decline. 🙂

  20. I must say we enjoyed watching Super bowl 54 tonight in Florida . TV ads were entertaining as expected .

  21. If news outlets require licensing then they can be turned down or have their license revoked, silencing them. And even they are not silenced, the threat of license withdrawal might pressure not to criticize the government overly much.

How would this not violate section 2b of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

  22. Sent today to every MP. I hope you’ll consider something similar.
    _________________________________________________________________________

    Dear MP’s of every political persuasion and geographic region;

The Liberal government’s proposal for taxation, regulation and indeed registration as a ‘trusted news source’ is creepily Orwellian and must be rejected out of hand. How can one reconcile “‘There is no core identity, no mainstream in Canada,’ (Justin Trudeau in 2015) with our Minister of Canadian Heritage, Stephen Guilbeault now claiming that our culture and very Canadian-ness are under such threat that government must control every means of information, not only by way of purchase (vis a vis the print media), but by controlling what we are able to see through bureaucratic vetting of websites any of us may wish to access. Trusted news sources indeed.

Ladies and gentlemen, this proposed legislation makes all of us less free. Please say no.

  23. The Heritage Minister is a former Greenpeace activist and was involved in an illegal demonstration on the CN tower. But I’m sure he will have an open mind on media censorship. Don’t be a racist bastard, join the Liberal Party and make sure that censorship laws protect Canadians from disagreeable views.

  24. Do your part, kids and kiddies. I just filed a complaint against the CBC for acting as a third party advertiser supporting the Librano/Green/Dipper triumvirate. It’s fun and it’s easy!

  25. Western Canada is approaching a definitive moment in its history.
Are we going to continue hoping for a change in the totalitarian French Canada Constitution to truly give give us an equal partnership in Canada or are we going to lay down and let the new social engineers ruin our lives forever?
This CBC item outlines the start of the problem.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/calgary-losing-young-adults-census-data-analysis-1.5444969

Our kids will FORCED to move away to find work and have a happy prosperous life.
One of the oldest tricks in politics is to give away those things owned or controlled by somebody else and which the governing party has little to no interest in. Like our resources based economies out here.
Ottawa has made us the sacrificial lambs on the alter of global warming stupidity.

PM Butts and his sidekick Deputy J Trudeau have arbitrarily decided that meeting the unscientific GHG emissions target is more important that jobs in the West.
If we agree with Ottawa’s GHG BS, then this CBC description will be the future of the West, We will become a ‘client economy’ controlled exactly like the east coast became after the rail shipping rates were changed to put them at a disadvantage compared to Ontario and Quebec.
And most of the young Maritimers had and have to move away for jobs.
Ottawa just has to throw them a few trinkets once in a while to keep them in line.

In our case there is still time to make up our minds.
    Our kids or Ottawa.
