I contend that there are 2 genders + √-1 genders.
There are only 2 sexes. Gamete production is the final arbitrator. If you produce large gametes, eggs, then you’re female. If you produce small gametes, sperm, then you’re male. If you produce neither then you have a medical condition or are in an non-reproductive life phase. There are no other gametes that humans can produce. You can stop gamete production but you cannot change from an egg producer to a sperm producer or vice versa.
The other “sexes” they are talking about are lifestyle choices. People should be free to choose their lifestyle and sexual preferences but this should not infringe on sex-based protections. Lifestyle choices should also not be allowed to corrupt scientific fact. Two sexes – eggs and sperm – nothing in between. Surgical alterations and hormone cannot change gamete production (it can only stop gamete production). A transwoman will not grow ovaries to produce eggs. A transman will not grow testicles that produce sperm.
We have decided, not me, that words without wisdom and truth are far more important than reality.
