Yes, by analyzing his actions you could always have deduced he was a communist. And, no, he was not the moderate Democrat (is that term even a praise any more?) that he pretended to be.
But from a distance, I shall offer up this observation. Frankly, I was surprised, nay shocked, after he gained power. I thought South Africa was going to immediately become the hellhole that it is today. But it was not so. Not as long as he was in power.
So I have to give that to him. Now the fact is, nevertheless, South Africa has become a hellhole after all. Occam’s razor says that is in spite of him rather than because of him. I would like to know if someone knows different.

Remember that guy who resfused to agree to make honorary citizenship for Mandela unanimous? I don’t remember his name, but it took real courage to stand against the mob. Actually Kate, I would expect that the CBC would celebrate Mandela even more, knowing that he was a communist revolutionary. They would likely edit out the necklacing that went on while they were making their “omelet”. The CBC you may have been thinking of hasn’t existed for a number of years.
