    Goebel’s observation about the big lie doesn’t really work with this one.
    The rewrite of the headline is what everyone is thinking and there is no shade of lipstick you can put on that pig to change it.

  12. I’m reminded of a line from Robert Heinlein’s novel Starship Troopers. At the end of one chapter, some young recruits are disparaging their drill sergeant, wondering how he ever came into being.

    He overhears this and his response was that he was the result of reproduction by binary fission….. just like any other bacterium.

  13. My concern would be for the physical and emotional well-being of the child who for all intents and purposes is filling the role of a pet for these loons. Any bets they’ll soon discover, against all probabilities, that the child is also “transgendered” at which point unscrupulous activists will have it hormonally poisoned and mutilated to fit their delusional fantasies.

    1. Not reading the actual report, I’ll just assume they aren’t assigning the baby’s gender yet. Pray they’ll wait at least until it shows signs of identifying with its actual sex before applying correction, the kid might get a couple years of relative peace.

Well, increasingly, these cases are being viewed as either autogynophilia (where someone born as a man is excited by the idea of being a woman with all the acoutrements) and autoandrophilia (where someone born as woman is excited by the idea of being a man.) And by excited I mean “excited.” So it’s not too far off to posit that these individuals, who are in love with themselves as another sex would be attracted to someone that looked like them.

    1. I was in Chicago back in the day. I was in a bar with a bunch of guys who were going to the Jerry Springer show. I went along.

      I had never seen the show and didn’t know what I was in for or I’d have never set foot in the place.

      After the show I got to meet Springer. He was a pretty ordinary guy. It was a tv show – made to entertain the masses.

      Never have seen the tv version, just that one taping.

    1. My favourite SF author was Clarke, though I read a number of Asimov’s short stories as well as his Foundation trilogy.

      Considering the absurdity of the original topic, I doubt that any of the old SF masters could have foreseen what’s happening nowadays.

  23. Someday, descendants will read headlines and scientific reports from the early 21st century with a combination of pity and humor. As in “they really thought humans controlled the climate via a minor trace gas and taxes and authoritarian governments were the only solution” and “politicians, journalists and academics thought people could change their biological sex by simply saying magic words (example – I am now a woman) and changing their name, hairstyle and clothes or having radical surgery/hormone treatment to change secondary sexual characteristics”.This time period will be the butt of jokes, no doubt.

    To be clear, there are two immutable biological sexes, male and female. Gamete production is the ultimate determinant: a person produces eggs or sperm. If a person produces neither then they have a medical condition or it is a non-reproductive phase of life. Biological sex is not a social construct

    Transgender women do not grow wombs or fallopian tubes or produce eggs regardless of any treatments – they are biologically male. Transgender men do not grow testicles and produce sperm – they are biologically female.

    1. It is not a coincidence that those who think biological sex is a social construct are also the ones pushing *catastrophic* “anthropological climate change narratives. These gullible types are extremely susceptible to group think and peer pressure. Or, they have ulterior motives. Why so many still think of these people as worthy political and thought leaders, allowing them to control our economic and academic systems, is the million dollar question.

      If you’ve ever studied history and wondered about the social and political dynamics or the psychological mechanisms behind the rise of authoritarianism and the populist backlash, anti-science academic periods, the birth of fundamentalist religious movements (wokeism) or mass hysteria (catastrophic climate change)…this current era has your answers. Fascinating in its own macabre and disturbing way.

        Yet I suggest that the sort of draconian measures such people urge upon society to deal with the “climate emergency” would be bad news indeed for the transgender types.

        A much-scaled down, more parochial and subsistence-based human society is unlikely to pander to what would likely be viewed as unproductive and frivolous elements, particularly if choices are to be made over who gets what food there is.

      1. It’s changed again. Gender was different than biological sex. Now they’re saying that there is no biological sex differences. The words gender and sex are interchangeable. As an added bonus, anyone claiming that there are biological sex differences or that transgendered women are not actual biological women is now guilty of “hate speech” and violence. Scientific fact is not a defense, even if you have no problem with using preferred pronouns out of politeness.

        Like I said, our descendants and history will not look kindly on the madness of the early 21st century.

  26. Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one horribly disturbed by all of this. I’m most upset that governments have bought in to this madness and the rights of THESE people to call themselves anything THEY want supercedes my right to refer to them by their biologically correct pronoun.

    Twenty years ago, if someone had told me that provincial governments would be removing gender from birth certificates because it is non-biological I would have told them that they were absolutely insane. Now it is happening (in at least Manitoba) and I’m at a total loss to even articulate how that makes me feel.

    1. It is not their right to call themselves anything they want that oppresses you. While it may be inconvenient for us, (but also usefully indicative of their mental disease or personality defect,) their right to call themselves anything they want should not be infringed. What does seem to be infringing on anyone else’s rights is their claim on authority to compel us to call them what they want, to pretend to believe what we know to be not true. That we should resist, even in defiance of laws if laws are passed to impose their madness on us.

        Not only does it risk the actual sanity of the sensible people who can see it’s illogical and against scientific fact, but when its acceptance is forced on people by government-imposed law, with real penalties, then it’s very dangerous.

  34. I googled the term “fiat science” before this posting and got the Italian car. Seems somehow appropriate.
    So here’s my claim to coining the term “fiat science”, oxymoron actually. You can list under this term such things as: biological sex is a social construct, CO2 rules the climate, and I’m sure there are others. Maybe a fiat political science “truth” such as socialism is more humane than capitalism.

    That’s all I have to say on all this brave new world.

  35. I just don’t care about these things. If consenting humanoid adults want to do whatever with themselves, I don’t care. As to the raising of children, they are governed by law and just might be better parents than many “normal” (unaltered male and female parent) families. The problem is that government has asserted itself into the “marriage business” and health care and there is now no end to the potential state coercion that will accompany all this BS including what you are allowed to think about it.

    1. So let me understand you correctly … because some NORMAL, heterosexual parents don’t do a good job of it … then some completely INSANE couple of people who have mutilated their own bodies for fun (or an even worse rationale) … will suffice as parents.

      I’m not sure you want to apply that reasoning to any other part of life. Or else, the CEO of WeWork … will be made head of Boeing
