  1. Ah, explains the value of our recession proof GDP statistics that media (TVO’s Steve Paiken) love so much. When you need deceit to carry your policy, your policies are obviously oppressive and favour totalitarianism. The results are always misery and destruction – see Alberta for proof. Ask yourself what it means for a journalist to insist their consumers accept deceit. Is it a sign of caring about people or of support for their own Tyrannical philosophy and beliefs?

    1. Stats Can numbers are always bogus, in fact all government generated numbers are just plain bullshit. They lie every single day of their lives. There is always an agenda and the people are not part of that agenda except as slaves to elite. The current climate change fraud will destroy millions of lives unless we stop them in their tracks.

    2. Most of the job losses were in the private sector which lost 50,000 employees. Because the labor participation rate also dropped not all of these people ended up in the 71K “job loss” category, or it would have been even worse. 25,000 “government” jobs were also lost. These losses were mainly in Alberta, B.C. and Quebec.

      I would speculate that many large companies (and the government) were waiting until after the election to fire people so they did not appear politically biased. Regardless, not a great sign. If you look at the CAD from 2012 onward it closely tracks the unemployment rate – leads a little bit. Lowering the dollar helps the economy, especially for exports. From here on in a lower dollar will become a real problem as it sits around $0.75.

      We are do for another 2-3 years of low unemployment as boomers (most born ’58 to ’62) get ready to retire. Then, as boomers retire in greater numbers (and aren’t replaced as promised) the unemployment rate will increase even if the number of unemployed remains the same.

            No millennial has a “right” to any job a boomer or anybody else has secured through years of experience, competence and hard work, assuming they are still performing in that job.

            That premise is entirely wrong: there is no job “theft”. Nobody has a right to lay claim over any job. The person deserves the job as long as their performance merits it. Put another way, should I be crowing about millennial job “theft” if I choose to leave my engineering management position and can’t get hired as a firefighter, even though that role would have better suited me 30 years ago as a much more able guy in my mid-20s? That would be playing a BS ageist card; I could hardly make the case that decades of technical experience gave me the right to a firefighter’s job when youth and physical conditioning were more important to that role.

            Should someone with decades of experience who owns their own business be forced to sell to a millennial who somehow “deserves” it because the other’s tenure is somehow “unfair”?

            Not sure if you’re a millennial or not; I had somehow guessed you were not. But that post oozes millennial entitlement.

          2. Not really sarcasm. Not a millennial. I’m pointing out an expectation by the younger generations that as the older ones retire there will be a massive number of job openings. This won’t happen for many reasons, companies electing not to rehire as they downsize “organically” and many boomers delaying retirement because they are still in debt and haven’t planned their retirement properly.

            I was responding to Robert’s comment regarding public sector vacations which I took as a comment on how government workers can retire with almost full benefits, much like a permanent vacation. Maybe I read too much into Robert’s comment but it led me to think how can these people retire with such benefits AND be replaced by someone earning almost the same amount of money (or even more). It is not a sustainable model. But I don’t think the millennials know that – yet.

    It seems like such basic maths,10 working persons must kick in 10% of their income to support one non productive functionary.
    When the functionaries become 6 and the working citizens 5, that means each working person has to feed 1 and 1/5 parasite.
    Gee how does that work?
    When on average each minion costs us $100 000/annum wages,infrastructure and hinderance.. But the medium gross income is something like $70 000(according to google) .
    By my reasoning that is100 out and 35 in so a net loss of $65 000 per working citizen.

  15. A country does not need to ‘make stuff’ to be prosperous. Manufacturing accounts for less and less of the developed world the wealthier it gets and there’s nothing wrong with this.

A country that is serious about survival long-term needs to be self-sufficient in food, energy and manufactured goods, so it will have no trouble feeding and equipping its armed forces at a moment’s notice. Failing that, it’s not a matter of if the country will be invaded and conquered, but when.

      Wars are won by people able and willing to make machine guns and bomber planes and keep the troops fed till they march unopposed into the enemy’s ruined capital—not people who tell spoiled, lazy cowards whatever they want to hear.
