Hockey Night In Wokestan

Just in case you thought there was nothing they could do to make you hate the Multi-Cult more.

That would be a “yes”: Sportsnet is fine with Communist China-controlled Huawei sponsoring Hockey Night in Canada, yet fires Don Cherry? What a disgrace.

  1. This whole multi-cult/racist debate has been deliberately confused by the left so that any criticism of their “multi-cultural” and immigration policies is shut down by cries of racism, resulting in real monetary. emotional and physical harm. As I like to argue, multi-racial, yes; multi-cultural, no.

  2. This is the last straw for me ,how a bunch of idiots that claim to be Canadians can have a great Canadian like Don fired is beyond sickening .Canada is fcked and I blame every liberal sob that ever drew a breath Go directly to hell you Eastern plicks

  3. Just sent a letter to Mr. Bart Yabsley re: my cancelling Rogers cell phone, all Rogers owned magazine subscriptions and finally cutting the cord on TV altogether. No more Sportsnet nor Rogers. Would love to stop drinking Budweiser but as I enjoy good beer, I never really had it so cannot boycott them. Finally, to Mr. MacLean – I will help you offset the cost if you change your name to Brutus. You are beyond disgusting human being and an excellent exhibit demonstrating how we lost our way.

PS BTW I am also a poppy-wearing immigrant and had served in the military.
PPS – this is official Sportsnet address – letter will be sent via snail mail tomorrow.

  4. To appease the SJWs who don’t watch HNIC, and never will, Sportsnet and CBC pissed off many who do watch. And watched for Cherry specifically. This won’t end well for them.

    1. Alas, this wasn’t about the SJW’s.

This was Sportsnet kowtowing to Toronto’s Chinese community—and to wealthy Chinese, in Canada and in China, who might have been tempted to cash out of their Rogers stock had Sportsnet allowed Don Cherry to stay after criticizing the lack of empathy shown by Canada’s new Chinese ruling class towards the white Canadians who go to fight in China’s proxy wars with Russia in the Middle East, so their own little emperors can spend their youth partying at UBC.

  5. The elephant in the room is that Don Cherry was exactly right in his observation. Moreover he has many supporters. I suspect this heavy-handed move will simply create additional resentment about new comers. The media promotes divisiveness.

      1. Firing Cherry hardens people’s views on immigrants, and not in a good way. People would like to see immigrants showing a willingness to participate in our culture. Some do, but many do not. Under Liberals, they are not even encouraged to adopt Canadian cultural norms. That’s divisive.

        1. “Under Liberals, they are not even encouraged to adopt Canadian cultural norms.”

That’s really not the government’s job.

          1. It is and should be paramount. There’s no point in importing people who do not share our values. None.

          2. No it isn’t. FO slaver. Fund your own ‘values test’ or whatever keep me out of it. This would be an idiotic idea even if ‘Canadian cultural norms’ wasn’t incredibly vague.

  6. Ezra’s chutzpah is truly breathtaking. I mean to lie and prevaricate like that when it’s so obvious and clear that Cherry was casting evidence-free aspersions at those darn foreigners. Amazing. I mean Ezra had better be amazing at it. He’s got nothing else going for him.

This whole thing is the blend of peak ‘ok boomer’ and peak right-wing sanctimony.

    1. Ezra rocks.
And they are the largest independent news network and fastest growing news network in Canada. If that offends you so much the better.

        1. Don’t watch them then , but you will miss a lot. Sometimes they have the only honest view of events. The recent take-down of the 11,000 scientists story is a good example.

    2. Oh, come on, UnMe. Who do you think buys all those poppies? Little emperors at UBC? Why should they?

They’ll never have to enlist in the armed forces because nobody else will hire them for a job allowing them to work indoors unless they speak perfect Mandarin. That’s what poor white people are for.

And neither they nor anybody they know will ever come home crippled or insane—or not come home at all—from one of China’s proxy wars with Russia in the Middle East. They’ll rarely speak to a Canadian veteran or anybody who knows a Canadian veteran, except to give him orders, or to tell the ragged, bearded white man to go beg somewhere else before they order Toronto’s or Vancouver’s finest to drag him away (and because the caller is Chinese, the cops will come running).

The Han are not known for their empathy—least of all towards barbarians past their sell-by date as sources of tribute or cannon fodder.

    3. It was not “evidence free.” Very few were wearing poppies. I suspect they do not understand the significance, so a better approach would have been to use his remarks as a chance to help people new to the country to learn more about our culture.

      1. There’s no evidence immigrants were wearing them at a rate deserving of such a sullen call out. What happened to keeping politics out of HNIC? Right: that’s for the other guys’ politics.

  7. So does the NHL get a one time fee from spotsnitwit or do they share in the revenue as well?

If it’s the latter, the NHL is gonna be pissed.

  8. Rumour has it that Heather Mallick at the Toronto Star or Michael Coren will replace Don Cherry. Strange, I didn’t hear any apologies or see anyone fired when Andrea Horwath and her NDP candidates trashed Remembrance Day and vets, during the last Ontario election.

  10. I cut the cord years ago now. Stopped watching hockey years before that. I just got tired of watching the first round of the playoffs while the other teams were already 3 weeks into training camp…

  11. I wonder if Barry Melrose wears the poppy? He’s the most-Canadian hockey analyst we’ve got here in the States. Since he was born on a farm in Saskatchewan… I assume he’s bought gobs of poppies … online … from his home in the States.

  12. Firing Don Cherry on Remembrance Day was incredibly tone death. He may have not articulated himself in the best way but he did touch on a subject that is important. There are immigrants who do not respect our institutions and customs. I think conflating it with the poppy is a mistake. There a lots of Canadians who do not respect our traditions and they are not only immigrants. That said, Don Cherry, like him or not is a iconic Canadian figure. He hearkens to an earlier Canada. What happened today was a shabby display by SN. I suspect they will pay a price and they deserve to.

  13. Our Defense Minister:
Last night, Don Cherry made comments that are wrong in describing Canadians’ remembrance of our veterans. His remarks don’t recognize the contribution of Canada’s diverse communities. I hope we can turn this into a moment where we can learn about about all who have served. 1/7

I think I’d sooner have him at my back than E.Levant.

As for Don Cherry, he was a failed coach with a memory for stories:
Once, after a melee in front of his team’s net which resulted in a goal,
he asked one of the players involved what happened.
Player: I had my man !!
Cherry: What are you, a fucking Mountie?
But for several decades now he has been a caricature of himself.
I’d sooner watch the Punjabi Hockey Night in Canada than Cherry & his sidekick.

    1. “I think I’d sooner have him at my back than E.Levant”

Keep your fantasies to yourself. This is a family friendly blog.

  14. No Don, no Ron. McLean acted like a weasel, I doubt Don will even consider him a friend.
Hockey Night in Canada has lost big time.

  15. Let us see now ….

First things first, Cherry said what had to be said. End of story, PERIOD.

Second and all other things third, what happened to him is a payback from the pinko’s.

    Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHzCoUZG2Js
    and
    here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOciOUzVPV0

Fourth he was right as in proper, calling the pinko’s out. The bloody pinko’s are the ruling class.

The Sportsnet is another propaganda in the propaganda machine that is the government paid for media cartel.

The Sportsnet boss Yabsley should be fired for limiting free speech and should be made to survive on the street.

Sportsnet should stop pretending and call itself the communist Chinese propaganda machine.

    End of story. Another PERIOD

It is too bad that the socialist/fascists rule the media cartel.

  16. The Royal Canadian Legion itself has rebuked Cherry:

“Mr. Cherry’s personal opinion was hurtful, divisive and in no way condoned by the Legion. We do remain appreciative of his passionate support for Veterans. We know many new Canadians understand and welcome the tradition of the red poppy and will continue to educate all citizens about the significance of this powerful symbol.”

To those planning to boycott Rogers, SN, etc. — who’s up for also boycotting the Legion?

  17. Common sense died 20 years ago , political correctness started about the same time!!!!
AND TRUTH DIED TODAY IN CANADA ; NOV. 11th/2019—-with the firing of DON CHERRY because he cared for our VETERANS! Like I said before my Grandfather fought at VImy and Passchendaele! He and the other boys didn’t put their lives on the line for this BULLSHIT!

    1. Jagdeesh. You go on CTV to talk about Don Cherry’s firing for complaining about immigrants not wearing a poppy… and…
      YOU. COULDN’T. WEAR. A. POPPY?

  18. “YOU PEOPLE” get out there and help your elderly neighbor shovel his/her driveway.
This is how Don Cherry speaks, it is NOT racist. He is speaking to EVERYONE.

  19. Don’t forget.
    BOYCOTT THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS.
    Owned by Rogers.
My one game a year attendance might not mean anything dollar wise to Rogers, about $300/year, but dollars do add up.
    GO A’s.

  20. I’ve been of the opinion that Don has been past his due date for a while now and should retire but this is ridiculous. Fired by soccer fans who don’t wear poppies.

  21. Cherry is 85 years old. He went out with a bang. Enjoy your retirement, Don.

In case folks can’t figure out why Mr. Cherry was fired, Multiculturalism is government policy(every party is pro-Multiculturalism) and Mr. Cherry took a dump on it on National TV. The CBC is a Crown Corporation.
For everyone who didn’t like Colin Kaepernick’s public display(I didn’t), this is the same thing, just the other side of the coin.

Yes, the poppy is part of traditional Canadian culture. Yes, hockey is part of Canadian culture. Hockey is akin to a religion here.
*Foster Hewitt famously said that hockey arenas were the Cathedrals of Canadian culture. The reality? Multiculturalism is here to stay.

*famous “Hockey Night in Canada” commentator who invented phrase, “He shoots, he scores!”

  22. I’ve told Rogers Sportsnet that I’m cancelling my Bell Fibe TV package that includes the Sportsnet channels but that’s not all.

Sportsnet is sole carrier (except for freaking YouTube stealing a couple of games a year) for Toronto Blue Jays games. So remember to tell the Jays that you’ve cancelled your Sportsnet package as well so they’ll know that they’re losing viewers as well.

BTW, I just cancelled my family’s Toronto Star subscription as well telling them it was over Don Cherry firing “content” too.
