    1. I used to think that Flaherty was the worst finance minister since that Mulroney twit Michael Wilson. Then came Bill Meauron.

      Look up how Flaherty lied to investors concerning trust units before the 2006 election and how he then stuck it to us after the ballots were counted. Then look at how he did it again when he changed his policy about exchanging investments of equal value between registered retirement plans.

Turns out his lovely wife had spent every penny in bribes Jim had ever accepted and then some, like trophy wives do. Canada’s finance minister died a pauper. Stephen Harper agreed to have him buried at taxpayer expense, to avoid the embarrassment of Jim ending up in a pauper’s grave like the lushes on Rideau Street.

  3. There is nothing “free” about flu shots. The tax payer covers them. That means you and I. Whenever the government says “it’s free” I want to smack an idiot.

        1. I did a study. I have had the flu shot every year for about 12 years and have not had flu once. I normally averaged a case of flu every year or two. I’m old so one of those times might have been a hospitalization.

            I’ll just note that I am a senior citizen for what that’s worth.

            My wife who is a hospital care worker has to have a mandatory one every year and she comes down with the flu regularly.

          2. I work in health care, not drinking the kool aid. Havent had the flu shot for 10 years or more, haven’t had the flu.
            The last one I had was mandatory at the workplace. And then I stopped letting the government tell me what to do with my body.

            At my workplace I see plenty of people present to ER with Flu
            like symptoms. I do my own personal subtle survey and most (at least 90%) had their flu shot. It gives them a false assurance.

            PPE ( personal protective equipment) works. Masks and gloves, and hand rinse.
            Wash your hands!! How many dirty hands touched that keyboard, handrail, debit machine, or shopping cart?!

            Free!??…lol! Big pharma is laughing!!

        2. my friends wife, who worked as a manager in 2 walk in clinics found that repeat walk ins slowed down after the flue shots were administered, and my X wife who worked at a local hospital also noted that there were reduced ’emergency’ cases after the flue shots were out. Myself I’v had th flue shots for about 10 years now, ad only had the flue once in that time because there was a strain not covered by the shot that year. SO no effing study is needed, it’s self evident if you talk to people and watch what is happening.General health care workers are much more reliable than desk geeks doing studies. Also before I started with flue shots , I had the flue 3 times that it almost killed me. I’ll take a flue shot over death any day. Now git outta yer basement once in a while and off leash, and see for yourself

            I presume you haven’t been informed that special flu vaccinations are being developed for those over 65 because studies showed the vaccines they had been receiving had no efficacy, and that the strength of the adjuvants in the vaccine for seniors has to be increased significantly. Among other things, virtually no one over 65 has a functioning thymus gland (which starts to degenerate after 50), so one vaccine for all was a gross mistake. So although it was “self-evident” from talking to people that the vaccines were effective, it turns out they weren’t. Indeed, more than 80% of causal interpretations from association studies are later reversed when tested with random control studies. Without critical scientific thinking, there is no progress in medicine–just expensive (“free”), useless procedures often with side effects. … And, since anecdote seems to carry much weight with many here, I haven’t had a cold, much less a flu, in over a decade and have never had a flu shot. Perhaps it’s because I avoid the type of people that get flu shots. This study found 6.3 times more aerosol shedding of infectious flu virus from the multiply-vaccinated.

  4. Ya. I had a flu shot 10 years ago. Was never so sick after that. Figured I’ll take my chances without it going forward.

    But the facade in Elliot’s promo. That is the deception that politicians expose the sheeple to. Science is no longer science. It’s politics.

      The flu shot only covers 3 strains that are most virulent and severe. The flu shot only claims to be 60% effective. It is much more likely that you acquired flu prior to immunity from immunization or that you acquired a non-protected strain than you acquired severe symptoms from a flu shot. The fact that there are people like you who refuse treatment is heartening in that your dying might mean more spaces in the cue for me.

        2. In the waiting room for tests at my local hospital were newspaper articles from 1951 or so showing how many people died of measles and polio in Alberta. i don’t think it was over 100 but it was close. We had a neighbor who spent her life in a wheelchair from polio.

          Something like 3,500 people die of influenza in Canada each year. 1,800 die each year from traffic deaths and the government goes ape shit over that.

  5. I’ve had the flu many times during my life.Never ended up in the hospital. Stayed in bed, drank lots of fluids and took aspirin.
    Seems to have worked. I’m 74 and still kickin’.

  6. My parents both survived two flu epidemics, my father survived 1918 while two brothers did not.
    My mother also had two brothers that didn’t survive in 1928.
    I have never had the flu or a flu shot nor needed one, same for my siblings.
    It’s genetic, in that we are all descendants of people that did not get the plague.
    500 years from now all alive will be descendants of those that didn’t get…?

    1. I am the same. Never get colds and have never had the flu. My mother was the same. Whilst flu shots may reduce health costs- they are not free. There is not a lot of convincing evidence as to their effectiveness over the long term. However I believe as a health initiative it is far more worthy than most.

    Haha. So before the flu shot was invented we all should have been dropping like flies so you could have your spot in the cue. Unfortunately for you that didn’t and won’t happen. Us old guys are as healthy as ever and pissing off twerps like you who think a pill or a needle is the key to weight reduction, low blood pressure, or Alzheimer’s prevention.

Murry, use a bit of logic my good woman, the statistical death rare declined with the advent of flue shots, and every death has an incumbent cost to health, throw in the fact that only about 1/3 of those who contact and have serious flues, die. The 36 thousand deaths in the USA translated to 108 cases of flue that have inherent health cost to them. That number has also been reduced and like wise the health care costs have been reduced. I don’t need to do a phukking study to determined that flue shots save $$$$ it’s self evident. That is the up side of taking things like EI and being math literate. Until you produce methodology and target results of the McCmaster studies that support these stupid claims, I call bullschitt on your post .

  10. I get it every year, but last year I finally had bad luck and still got the flu. Nasty. Sometimes they just pick the wrong strains to protect against.

    That being said, I guess Christine Elliott feels “herd immunity” is only for the “Herd”, not the herders.

  11. I used to get the flu shot back in the day. Always got a mild flu after the shot as well as felt generally crappy.

    Haven’t had it in well over a decade and have never since had the flu.

    Vaccines are junk science, and their wonder claims are bunk. Research the Spanish Flu to see the true devastation vaccines can cause.

    The question people should ask themselves is, why does the government pay for vaccines for such a non-threat? The flu generally only kills the elderly who were already in poor health. If the flu didn’t finish them off, something else would have.

    As for the fake video footage…I used to be a cameraman for Global and Citytv. These sorts of press conferences are used to encourage people to vaccinate yes, but very likely Christine had to do the “I’m getting a flu shot” b-roll multiple times for multiple different outlets needing visual filler for their anchors to talk over.
    We used to stage “politician walking down hallway” or “working at desk” etc. To get different angles to cover the needed tv footage.
    Not a big deal.

      The childhood DPPT (Diphtheria, Polio, Pertussis, Tetanus) is a proven effective vaccine.
      Flu vaccine has been proven to have a lo efficacy rate. Protect yourself. You cannot count on the vaccine to protect you against flu.

In other words, this is consistent with other evidence that to some unknown extent with vaccines, one is robbing Peter to pay Paul. The effect of using adjuvants to hyper-stimulate the immune system has side effects on prior-established immunities. Until there are real RCTs based on all-cause mortality, there is a strong element of Sorcerer’s apprentice here. I audited a biomedical engineering cause that covered vaccines and I was shocked at the extent it reminded me of the film Apollo 13.

    Im 68 and have completely escaped a severe case of flu. *and* top it off with whatever vaccine is handed out for years.
    crikey, I havent even bad a bad cold since I remember.
    what works for me:
    avoid sugar (Im borderline diabetic anyway)
    keep the mouth clean esp cold season, brushing & decent mouthwash.
    feeling under the weather? sleep it off, gulp LOTS of fluids and double down the clean mouth thing.
    500 mg vit C *every day of the year*
    etc
    again, depends on your OWN body type.

    ah and VERY important what Marlene says re hand washing. possibly most important of all seeing where the nasty beast comes from.
