That will happen under either the Cons or the Libs, and really, it’s the only issue that matters.

            Conservatives are apathetic towards freedom. Libranos are actively hostile. There is an unquestionable difference here. I get that people are unhappy with Scheer and current state of CPC. Of course, so am I. It does not change basic differences between the two parties.

            You’re of course 100% correct about immigration. Yes we’re turning into Balkanized third world shithole.             But you are giving Ontario way too much credit. This province (GTA and Ottawa areas really, the rest is rather sane) has drank its own koolaid for so long we’re completely detached from reality. Ontarians, for the most part, truly believe we’re Canada and Canada needs to be a progressive beacon. We completely do not understand Canada outside of Ontario. We reluctantly bow to Quebec (that we generally resent) because we were told to fear their separatism. But we are truly convinced that all should be like us and if they’re not from Quebec they have no excuses but to be like us.
            It took more than a decade between Harris and Ford for some measure of sanity to return and I fear it is one term only. The in between PC leaders (Eves/Tory/Hudak) were Scheer like soft punching bags for the Laurentian elite and the MSM. We voted for Harper once. The only way for a Conservative to win Ontario (and that will not always work) is populism and emotions combined with build up resentment towards Libranos… and with each planeload of imported electorate this possibility deteriorates.   11. To my Conservative Party of Canada friends: a few random thoughts on our recent election to comfort the afflicted and/or give hope to the hopeful. Here they are:

    1. YOU LOST BECAUSE YOU DESERVED TO LOSE – Sorry, but there you have it. My proof for this assertion: you lost. The Conservatives simply could not articulate a compelling vision of the country that people could get behind. And don’t criticize the electorate as stupid and uninformed. Even to the extent this is true, would you be saying the same if you had won?

    2. GET A PAIR – You have no guts, balls or backbone. Stop obfuscating, backpedalling and apologizing and have the courage of your convictions. People respect that. If you’re a socially-conservative Christian, or a libertarian free-for-all type, or think anthropogenic global warming is a bunch of hooey, don’t be afraid to say so. Be who you are without apology and people will respect you (and might even vote for you even if they disagree with some of your positions). And if you’re attacked by some outrage mob on Twitter remember this: virtually all bullies when challenged with even the least bit of token resistance will fold.

    3. IT’S THE NARRATIVE, STUPID – Stop wasting all your time defending yourself against opponents’ accusations and go craft your own damned narrative. Promulgate a counter-mythology. Your opponents have been successfully doing so for ages so stop your whining and do the same. Public opinion can be as malleable as hot butter and you might be very surprised that if you presented a simple, compelling message with conviction, people might actually buy into it.

    4. CONVENTIONAL WISDOM IS FOR IDIOTS – You are way too deferential to established authority and opinion. The types who produce those hand-wringing/pearl-clutching editorials in say, the Globe and Mail are never going to dig you so why debase yourselves by even trying? Find a way to get your message to the country over the heads of the mainstream media (it’s dying, so how hard can this be?). You are also way too in the thrall of political consultants, ‘wise men’, pollsters, pundits, elder statesmen, party hacks, assorted mouth-breathers and other nervous-nellies peddling shopworn conventional wisdom. These people know virtually nothing.

    5. NO TRADITION TO UPHOLD = COMPLETE FREEDOM OF ACTION – The only real tradition of Canadian conservatism is being out of power (Jack Pickersgill once famously said of you, “the Conservatives are like the mumps, you get them once in your life”). This fact should be liberating to you. Use it. Anyone who maintains that this or that policy goes against the supposed glorious legacy of the Conservative Party of Canada is completely full of sh*t.

    6. THERE IS NO SADDER FAILURE THAN A FAILURE OF THE IMAGINATION – Your political failures/lost opportunities in this regard – and an extension of my points #4 and #5 above – seem quite glaring to me. For example, you could bring certain elements of left-wing populism into your tent – the hard-left This Magazine published a piece last year entitled “Canada has an oligopoly problem—and we need to fix it” (about how government coddling/subsidizing of so-called “national champions” had resulted in our paying way more for such things as air travel, telecommunications and financial services) – which could have been easily written by the “right-wing” Fraser Institute. In a similar vein, you could diffuse/co-opt considerable Quebec nationalist sentiment by giving ALL of the provinces more autonomy in certain areas, which would certainly play very well in the West too. And as for any element of the Canadian socio-political fabric being an immutable “sacred trust” (to quote one of the great Canadian political blarney-spewers), if your opponents are as freethinking as they claim, they should be happy to explore all options. If not, publicly call them on it.

    Anyway, these are just my thoughts. Feel free to pass ‘em around and to add your own.

      Looking back over the last 50 years, it seems that whenever the Conservatives won a federal election, it wasn’t because the party presented a persuasive platform but that the electorate were tired of the Liberals.

      This time, the Conservatives had victory handed to them only to push it away. (Sorry, Andy, but in wartime, gentlemen do read each other’s mail.)

    3. There is no imagination required. Canadian conservatism fails on the alter of language and Quebec identity and has since 1867.

      The simple truth is that prairie milk-toasts won’t be elected as long as the liberals continue to own Montreal.

      Harper only won because the liberals at that time were beyond terrible and even Quebec saw it.

      You want to get a message out that wins, it has to be in flawless Quebecois.

  25. Yeayyy!!! It’s the weekend … and PG&E is shutting our power off … AGAIN … later today because of anticipated EXTREME winds (implied … caused by global warming). Yep, in just a few hours, the massive bureaucracy PG&E hired and set up JUST to shut our power OFF will go to work (if you call flipping a switch OFF “work”). The massive amount of money being poured into this Power Shut Down shitshow could be better spent replacing and reinforcing their overhead wire infrastructure.

    I just got a notice that PG&E has set up some sort of local “Resource Center” where you can go and sit while the power is OUT. WTholyF?!!! Idiots are running this behemoth … utterly WASTING ratepayers money (mine) on useless shit! The second highest electric rates in the USA.

    I am so angry, I can hardly see straight. This State Government, and every quasi PUBLIC utility … is being run by REtards! Hey! Here’s a clue! How about getting WOKE to actually operating a competent power company and drop all the extraneous bullshit!? Real “rocket science” advice, eh!?

  27. Am at my daughter’s in Canmore now for a week. Amongst all the fake Lumberjacks and fake Mountain Men. It oozes rich Liberals.
    I grew up her somewhat way back when Canmore was still an active coalmining town.
    I call my “Stand By Me” time like in the movie. I was very young pumping gas out on the old TransCanada at the road to town. My Dad and eldest brother owned a Shell gas station there. Before that my brother owned the Old Diamond Cross Ranch at Seebee.
    My younger brother and I roamed on our bicycles, and hiked and fished. Our main event was always down town Friday night to watch the fistfights between the coal miners and the cowboys. Toughest little bar in Alberta then. The only bar I ever saw that had bars inside all the windows. To stop people from being heaved out of the windows.
    I loved this place so beautiful. So many adventures. The old Alberta. Fantastic fishing in those days. My first actual venture into business for myself. I grew and sold my own bait.
    Yes the old ALberta, my family homesteaded here in Manola the year before Alberta became a Province. Total UN Agenda 21 Planning Dept. Now By Laws and poop and scoop cops.

    My daughter is so beautiful and smart. And I love and appreciate her. She is a real estate agent, now and University educated. In the top 3% in sales Nationally with her company.
    We went shopping together today. And she has been so good to me and I am so proud of her, I bought her a bouquet of pretty flowers, and the woman before me in the check out said Oh nice who are the flowers for. I told her, and she was surprised. I said I love and appreciate my daughter and I know she likes flowers. She was surprised.
    I would have picked her a flower but there is snow now. Anyway down off my mountain and will raise a little hell. Come back “Stand By Me” I miss you and my youth, fishing lazily off the old town bridge in the sunshine. Climbing the iron structure of the old rail bridge and walking the top girder, like wild things on our way into the forest and our hideouts. Yes “Standby Me”.
