    Moral number three: Nothing short of violent regime change courtesy of the US armed forces is likely to consign the Liberal Party of Canada to the dustbin of history. Lord knows people have tried.

    Ralph Goodale is down more than 10 points (almost 15% atm) to the Conservative candidate Michael Kram in Regina Wascana.

    Conservatives only picking up +/- 4 seats in Ontario, despite Trudeau’s major errors, blackface, a couple of “MeToo” scandals, SNC-Lavalin, deficit not in control, do not bode well for Canada.

    A push for separation is due.
    We’re (the west in general) going to take it on the chin now.
    Our energy is locked in. 15 years ago we though Alberta would be exporting 7 million barrels a day, and now we struggle on every front..

        1. As I said, when the final count is in, I’ll crunch the numbers. Just because as of this time Bernier only got 2% of the popular vote doesn’t mean that 2% was not efficiently targeted to win seats for the Liberals. I remember well that people who understood how elections work in Canada were astounded by Chretien’s last election wherein he only won 32%? of the popular vote yet was able to achieve a majority government because of gaining the targeted seat number. The Pundits called it “Efficient”.

          Bernier’s PPC ran candidates in only 90% of the available seats, but I guarantee you that ALL of those seats where he ran candidates were Battleground seats which had a chance to go either way Lib or Con and that is what Vote Splitting is about.

Maybe the CPC will learn that choosing a guy who is only a politician because he failed at everything else he tried is not a good idea. An insurance salesman that couldn’t sell insurance isn’t likely to be able to sell Canadians on a broad sweeping vision for the nation. Of course it might have helped if Scheer had ever presented a broad sweeping vision for Canada.

      I fear that we are headed back to the Chretien days when divided Conservatives delivered seemingly endless Liberal governments.

      1. This isn’t a return to the 90s. This is something else. I said four years ago that the Harper loss and rise of Trudeau felt _different_ than a mere political changing of the guard. It felt like much of Canada was finally & irrevocably turning its back on what a united Conservative party represented. They willingly jumped back into the arms of Big Daddy Liberal, led by son of Trudeau, to go back to how they really feel Canada ought to be. No pesky westerners thinking they’re equals to the rightful rulers of the country. No pesky Conservative ideas making their way into the halls of power. No sir. Not any more.

        Politics is downstream of culture. In the past 25 years, has Canada’s culture moved left, or moved right? I wouldn’t say the latter. The Conservatives won less than 35% of the vote last night. That’s 65% of voters choosing left-of-centre options.

        I fear the Conservatives shall not win a majority government in this country ever again. They’ll nab a minority when the stench of the Liberals grows too overpowering, but a few years on the opposition bench and Canada will run right back to Big Daddy Liberal.

        Reform failed. The Conservatives failed. Canada cannot be meaningfully changed. Alberta needs to act accordingly.

    The CPC candidate in my riding won tonight

    Michael Chong, MP for the Wellington-Halton Hills riding since 2004, has been reelected in Wellington-Halton Hills.

    He did so with close to 50 per cent of the popular vote.

    Liberal candidate Lesley Barron finished the night with about 28 per cent of the popular vote, almost eight per cent lower than the Liberal showing in the previous federal election.

    That ground was made up by Ralph Martin of the Green Party. He captured 12 per cent of the popular vote, but improved on the Green’s showing in the riding in 2015 by eight per cent.

    The NDP’s Andrew Bascombe held on to 10 per cent of the vote, while Syl Carle of the People’s Party finished well behind, polling at two per cent.

    Syl Carl of the People’s Party won 2.2 per cent of the ballots.

    We’re all racist at the PPC don’t you know…
