  1. I have been having some running debates on other sites about the Electoral College, which caused me to look at the California delegation in the House of Representatives. It turns out it is consisted of 46 Democrats to 7 Republicans, or a ratio of 87% to 13%. Thirteen per cent! For comparison, even though the margin of victory for the witch in California was greater than her plurality for the entire country, it was still only 66% to 34%. So how does a 32% margin in votes translate to 74% margin in House representation? There was some serious gerrymandering done there. (This is even, for sake of argument, accepting that voting margin as legit, which it definitely isn’t.)
That margin of 39 for the California delegation is exactly the same as the margin the Democrats have in the House. A fair representation of 66% would give them a margin of 17 (35 to 18), quite a bit smaller hill to climb next year.
Someone should be suing California for denying Republicans fair representation in Congress, and have the USSC mandate a redrawing of the district boundaries. I believe that sort of thing had been done before.

    1. Well, that’s how first past the post works. The crazy left often makes the same argument here, but it’s how it works and sometimes it’s ugly.
So, each of your districts could elect a DeMarxist, with a 100% victory. But, in theory, each district could go 51-49 for the DeMarxist, yielding a different result in pop vote.
The Electoral College is your country’s saviour, protecting you from being run exclusively and always from New York and California

      1. Dan, America does not have a system like Canada’s where first past the post tales all the cookies. The electoral college is indeed a saviour.

        1. Amen – the big cities voted overwhelmingly for Hiliary ( – anybody remember the election vote in Philadelphia where across all boroughs, Mitt Romney got exactly ZERO votes? – ), the country outside the big cities voted overwhelmingly for Trump. It’s like here in Canada – if Sockpuppet wins Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver he could care less about the rest of us.

Over and over I’m astounded at the foresight of the Founding Fathers; not that it matters much anymore. As George Carlin put it, “Iraq wants a constitution, let’s give ’em ours! It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it served us well for two hundred years and we aren’t using it anymore…”

        2. Which is why the Liberals want to change Canada’s and rig the vote some more. First past the post is not a problem in Canada. The Problem is all the special deals and scams given to Quebec and Atlantic Canada which disenfranchise all the other voters east of Ontario.

          1. …”disenfranchise all the other voters east of Ontario.”

If i may, with due respect, I think you meant West of Ontario.

    2. OB … I live in ‘Lamorinda’ a mythical conglomeration of the cities of; Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda. IOW … deep, white, suburbia. For my entire life, ‘Lamorinda’ has been included in same voting District as Oakland and Berkeley. IOW deep, black, revolutionary socialism. The residents of ‘Lamorinda’ and Oakland have NOTHING in common (politically). Yet we are vastly outnumbered in our voting district, hence ERASING my Vote for US House of Representatives for my entire voting life. For 13 consecutive terms, Ron Dellums (communist) was elected to the 9th US Congressional District. The gerrymandered District which makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER by including Suburbia with the multi-culti inner city … except … to silence the votes of all the conservatives living in an Upper middle class slice of Suburban CA. We are separated both politically (as mentioned), environmentally (Oakland FOG vs ‘Lamorinda’ SUNSHINE), and geographically (the Oakland Hills and Caldecott Tunnel) . It makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER to be included in Oakland and Berkeley’s voting District.

  2. CNN unleashes a brilliant plan for ratings gold–a 7 hour telethon devoted to the climate crisis!
“CNN on Tuesday announced the candidate lineup for its unprecedented prime-time event focused on the climate crisis.
Ten Democratic presidential hopefuls will appear in New York at back-to-back town halls on Wednesday, September 4, taking audience questions about their climate plans as scientists sound the alarm about global warming.
Along with the candidates, the network also announced the CNN journalists and the approximate appearance times for the presidential hopefuls during the seven-hour, live event.

Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro will be interviewed by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer at 5 p.m. ET
Businessman Andrew Yang, who will also be interviewed by Blitzer, will come on at 5:40 p.m.
California Sen. Kamala Harris will be interviewed by CNN’s Erin Burnett at 6:20 p.m.
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who will also be interviewed by Burnett, will appear at 7 p.m.
Former Vice President Joe Biden will be interviewed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper at 8 p.m.
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who will also be interviewed by Cooper, will be on at 8:40 p.m.
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren will be interviewed by CNN’s Chris Cuomo at 9:20 p.m.
South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who will also be interviewed by Cuomo at 10 p.m.
Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke will appear with CNN’s Don Lemon at 10:40 p.m.
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker will also be interviewed by Lemon and will come on at 11:20 p.m.”

This is super exciting. Kate should live blog, sure to get massive traffic for this exciting event!

    1. And the Clown Car express continues. Voting for a DeMarxist climate change Doomer, is voting for the destruction of your country. Canadians are that stupid, but will the Muricans vote against being American?

    2. We’re all SO frightened! This climate is such a crisis – yelp!
It poured rain ALL day Saturday in Calgary, Alberta, Canada!
All day, I tell you! All day!
      (⊙¿⊙ yawn!)

        1. And the forecast for tomorrow is continuing climate emergencies, reaching $75 carbon tax, followed by lows of $10 – $15 overnight.

        2. Its only 10 degrees here in rural Ontario this morning. When the hell is this global warming supposed to arrive?

          1. I live NE of Timmims. For the past 22 months I monitored weather compared to historical temperature averages. Consistently 4-5 C colder. We are being duped by lying politicians.

      1. We are frightened that hordes of people are being brainwashed. Rational thought even by many leaders has disappeared. I don’t know what we can do to bring perspective on this. The facts no longer seem to matter.

      1. Dr. D., I am so disgusted with CNN “news”, I do not bother to tune into the profoundly corrupt channel for the hurricane updates. I tried watching CTV News network, at the start of the half-hour, and the affirmative-action thingy led off the news with an anti-Trump attack, discussing an Iran-related tweet. I feel that I in the old Soviet Union, with an emergency coming on, one is forced to read TASS.

        1. We are not FORCED. Been 99% off the grid the last 2 weeks, no CTV, no ceeb, etc.

CTV has become as idiotic as the ceeb, virtually unwatchable propaganda TRIPE. Every interviewee is a certified Leftwing proggy with TDS.

          Unwatchable

  3. On September 1, 1979, Pioneer 11 became the first spacecraft to reach Saturn. One of its objectives was to determine if there might be any problems for the following Voyager probes for their respective passes. As well, it was to take pictures and measurements of Saturn’s rings, as this was the first time such close observations could be made.

Pioneer 11 discovered the moon Epimetheus, the existence of which had been indicated from ground-based observations. It also determined that the structure of Saturn’s rings was much different than had been previously known. Based on telescope observations, the darker regions were believed to be empty gaps, and astronomers developed models which explained what was seen. Data from Pioneer 11 indicated otherwise, and those models had to be revised. It wasn’t until over a year later, during Voyager 1’s flyby, that detailed information on what the rings were actually like became available.

Once the pass was complete, Pioneer 11 headed out towards interstellar space. It continued sending data until its on-board radioisotope battery could no longer produce enough power for the transmitter.

  4. For a good reminder on what four more years of Groper in power will result in, check out the editorial at the Toronto Sun website on Ontario’s debt bomb. And don’t forget that the same people that worked for Wynne are now working for Groper.

  5. The Sunday Toronto Star continues to ignore how Great Leader Kim Sung Trudeau had a muslim candidate who is a hater of Jews, or how he has dropped a female LIberal MP in Quebec. Instead another Hitler Scheer abortion story on the front page. For some reason they ignore the words of their hero Justin, who has the same view on the subject. Back in 2011 Groper stated that he didn’t personally believe in abortion because of his Catholic faith. Trudeau’s Toronto Star also has a story on how its wonderful for groups in the United States to fund anti tar sands projects in Alberta. The rest of the paper is the standard stories that capitalism is evil, Trump is evil, Scheer is evil, populism is evil, Brexit is evil, Justin is wonderful, the Liberal Party is wonderful, Canadians are racist bastards.

    1. It goes a lot farther than that – eco-freaks are now #1 on the mass-murder podium next to Stalin and Mao, and Hitler is shlumpfing-along a distant fourth. Every year since the DDT ban, a million-or-more children in Africa die of malaria, and the eco-loons’ committed and dedicated resistance to golden rice has condemned hundreds of thousands more children to blindness and death. Every year. You could toss-in the hundreds of thousands who die every year from bad water; especially poignant in countries with lots of coal, that can’t get loans from the World Bank to build coal-fired power plants because, y’know, “dirty coal”… All the while, the greeeen weeeenies private-jet to exclusive tropical venues and join together to celebrate their virtue-signalling.

C.S. Lewis: “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” goodreads.com/quotes/19967-of-all-tyrannies-a-tyranny-sincerely-exercised-for-the-good

  6. Is this the key to unlimited oil sands production? A new reactor to provide the heat necessary for in situ bitumen liquification: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jamesconca/2019/08/31/a-very-fast-very-safe-very-sllim-nuclear-reactor/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

It is called the SLIMM reactor, and can be built in a factory and hauled to a worksite by a tractor trailer. It’s operation is fully passive, there is no pressure vessel, and can be built to power levels between one and 100 MW. When it needs refueling ( after many years, maybe decades ). It can be removed and shipped on a flatbed.

    1. Dumbest idea ever. Is this another environmentalist plot? Imagine a nuclear leak into the 3rd largest oil reserve I the world. Nuclear power is a scam and would not exist without massive taxpayer support. They can not even afford to pay their own insurance, the whole scam is so risky that they can not afford or get commercial insurance and the taxpayers have to pay for all their disaster’s. The cost of cleaning up and storing their TOXIC waste is so high that the taxpayer has to pay for that as well forever. Nuclear power is a disaster. Was Fukijima not enough of a wake up call. Besides Albertans overwhelming said NDW last time they tried that crap. All Nuclear power in Canada is now owned by SNC Lavalin now anyway.

      1. Imagine a nuclear leak into the 3rd largest oil reserve I the world.

To which Gang Green would endlessly rejoice. A leak in the oil sands region would make it inaccessible for generations. Imagine how much better the planet will be without all that evil hydrocarbon sludge, eh?

        1. The reactor could be far away from the deposits, and used to generate electricity, which of course would solve the problem. Or do you oppose this because you are anti oil sands?

          1. Albertans do not want or need Nuclear Power we already have ample fossil fuel at less cost. We already voted it down.

          2. One of the more absurd ideas that was proposed to extract that oil was the use of fission nuclear reactors. The steam that would be produced would be used to heat the formation, allowing the oil to be pumped out.

Fortunately, the concept remained only an idea.

          3. It would cut the carbon footprint of the oil sands immensely. Heat is required to remove the sand from the oil, is how I understand it. Please educate me if I am wrong on this. Currently, this is accomplished by burning natural gas, because it is in abundance in the Fort Mac Murray region, so it is free. So you can have carbon intensive extraction, or you can have carbon neutral extraction. However, the eco-nuts won’t allow it. Personally, I think this Global Warming, Climate Change, or whatever they want to name it now, is the Greatest HOAX ever perpetrated on mankind.
I think the whole fiasco is to deindustrialize the west, and introduce Global Communism. I say we get the f#$%k out of this godforsaken country, and start a new one. One with a constitution that limits government power. Being a colony SUCKS. FREE SASKABERTA NOW !!!!!!!

        2. Yes Sir, I am sure they are capable of arranging that reactor core meltdown or leak etc. I am not against nuclear power just do not see why if it is so wonderful they need the taxpayer to pay all their bills forever and ever. The forever storage of toxic waste at our expense because there is no long term way to prevent it destroying our environment. Nothing manmade lasts that long, the decommissioning costs of worn out nuclear contaminated plants is huge. UK costs are like 50-80B admitted costs so double that in reality. Once the plants are torn down they are all considered toxic waste and have to be stored accordingly indefinitely. Huge huge cost all on the taxpayer again. No other industry gets these taxpayer bailouts. PET did more for Nuclear Proliferation than anybody else in the world. He gave Pakistan the Bomb as well as India. And we paid for that too.

          1. BA – are you generically anti-nuke? After all, the nuke can generate electricity far from the oil sands. Look at the details of the new reactor. What’s the harm of letting private entities build one as a test pilot?

The oil producers say in situ extraction is the key to growth.

          2. SCC:

I never said I was anti-nuclear. In fact, I advocate the inertial electrostatic confinement fusion concept (often called polywell).

People in the proposed area for the reactor project were opposed to it. For one thing, a fission nuclear plant is enormously expensive and takes a long time to build from the initial concept to commissioning–time periods of at least 10 years are not uncommon. The bureaucratic red tape to get a reactor approved is largely responsible for that. As well, many of those projects, partly because of the long lead times, end up going well over their projected costs.

Another is the problem of storing and disposing of the resulting waste, particularly the spent fuel rods. That’s a problem that’s never been properly resolved, going back to the days of the Manhattan Project.

Then there’s the aspect of safety, particularly of residents downwind from such a facility. Also, many nuclear plants are shoddy in construction and, I believe, a certain company (yes, that one) has been involved in that business.

In addition, a number of nuclear plants never worked properly because of poor design. I believe it was the Darlington power station in Ontario that had problems with at least one of its reactors.

So, considering its checkered reputation and history, why would anyone even consider using a nuclear reactor to produce steam for extracting oil from the sands?

          3. SCC:

You’ve suggested that a nuclear generator could be located far from the oil sands to produce electricity. Aside from the cost of such a machine, there are two aspects that need to be considered.

One is that the cost for installing a new transmission line, which costs several thousand dollars per km. The line has to be properly located and there will be negotiations with land owners for access rights. In addition, the cutlines have to be maintained as the lines need to be kept clear of vegetation both for maintenance and safety.

Then there’s the aspect of transmission losses. Much of the power that would be produced will be lost before it reaches the load. Locating the generator further away will mean that its output capacity will have to be increased to make up for those losses, thereby raising the cost.

      2. Nuclear’s safety record is very good. Other than pure Soviet incompetence at Chernobyl and some Japanese genius who built a reactor that could be submerged in salt water at Fukushima there have been no significant nuclear events. Millions have died from coal pollution although this has improved immensely in the west with no visible particles coming out of the stacks.

        1. Those are just the nuclear incidents that have been publicized.

A former colleague of mine went to work for AECL and he had some interesting stories to tell about the nuclear power business.

          1. BA- This design deals with the drawbacks of the older designs you mention. It’s all in the article.

          2. SCC:

I’ve read about such systems. They sound nice in theory but none, as far as I know, has actually been built, let alone tested and operated for extended periods of time.

Many of them are simply the last attempts by the fission nuclear industry to justify its existence because it’s a money-losing business. A lot of them kept their doors open by a continuous shell game of mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs. For example, Westinghouse Electric Company, filed for bankruptcy about 2 years ago after going through a series of owners during the last 2 decades. It’s since been acquired by Brookfield Business Partners.

I remain skeptical as to their merits.

          3. You must have missed the word “significant.” 3,300 people die in car accidents each day in this world. Other than Chernobyl, no-one or almost no-one has died in a nuclear power plant radiation mishap. Nuclear plants are likely the safest source of electricity by a long shot.

        2. As I mentioned earlier, Chernobyl and Fukushima were events that we heard about. There have been numerous incidents that haven’t been publicized, being hushed up for various reasons.

On the other hand, to the best of my knowledge, there have never been any known mishaps with nuclear systems in the U. S. Navy. Only two of its nuclear subs were lost at sea, the U. S. S. Thresher and the U. S. S. Scorpion. Neither mishap was caused by the on-board reactors. There have been rumours that the Soviets lost some nuke subs, aside from the Kursk and that those reactors have leaked.

Numerous facilities have been the source of contamination. For example, Windscale/Sellafield in the UK discharged material into the Irish Sea for several years, turning that body of water into the most radioactive in the world. That is hardly insignificant.

It was issues like these that convinced people to reject the idea of using nuclear-generated steam for extracting oil from the sands.

However, many people refused to be persuaded by facts. Fission nuclear power is like socialism: it’s just never been done “right”.

    1. They ignored Epstein and the Clintons picadillo’s as well. But eventually when they are all wearing parka’s in June talking about Global Warming being a threat maybe the dumb ass Canadians will clue In and riot as they pay more and more too survive the cold. Carbon taxes.

  7. Trudeau’s CBC had its Political Scrum on this morning. The biggest discussion of course was how evil Hitler Scheer is for being homophobic and anti abortion. They did briefly talk about the muslim candidate the Liberals dumped. They stated its ok to trash Israel but he needs to explain himself better regarding his hatred of Jews. Then everything will be ok. Funny how this story has been quickly dropped by the media.

After brainwashing kids with their climate alarmism propaganda, the insane regressive Left is now promoting allowing 8-year-olds to vote.

The #18to8 campaign is asking Canada to lower the voting age to make sure that climate change is on top of the ballot.

    YOU THINK
    KIDS VOTING
    IS CRAZY?
    DOING NOTHING IS CRAZIER.

We are a group of Canadian kids who want to tackle climate change in the voting booth. We are the future of this planet and we’re not going to just sit back and watch as it gets destroyed. While grown-ups are worried about grown-up things like gas prices and political popularity contests, we’re passionate about protecting the natural world – our home – and we’re willing to prioritize a livable climate over all other issues. In the federal election this October 21st, for the love of the planet, let us vote.

      1. Don’t forget the pre-Christmas ads he made a few years ago. He said that Santa won’t be coming from the North Pole any more because it melted due to “climate change”.

No doubt, many of the kiddies he wants to give the vote to will cast their ballots to punish their elders for having done that to old St. Nick.

Also, don’t forget that Dr. Fruit Fly wants to put all of us “deniers” in prison.
