I’m no conspiracy theorist (Epstein excluded) but you can’t help but feel that this is all a highly coordinated enterprise as evidenced by the piece about Virginia Tech.
While I was teaching, I had a student in a certain course who, like xim/xer/xit, played the system to his advantage.
He claimed he had a certain disability whenever it appeared to suit him. For example, it meant he could write his exams in the institution’s student centre.
If things didn’t go his way, he bullied staff into either making concessions because of his apparent disability or actually giving him what he wanted. When he succeeded, he was all sweetness and light until the next thing that he didn’t like happened and he was his old self once again.
Nobody, it seemed, was exempt from his antics and he was widely loathed both by my colleagues and his fellow students.
And, yes, he succeeded in graduating. He was one of those students that the institution would give a diploma to just to get rid of him.
I went through the bar admissions course about twenty years ago. I later discovered there was a black guy in my seminar group who hadn’t written any of the necessary exams, claiming he had child care responsibilities and the law society should offer other times.
Meanwhile, another student in a mobility scooter was caring for a very young baby without complaint.
Maybe he was starting to realize he didn’t have hope of passing.

I grew up in a rural Alberta community over half a century ago. Several of our neighbors had spent 5 to 30 years in the loony bin. If they were a danger to themselves or others, they were locked up. Society didn’t live in fear of the bat crap crazy. Is freedom to sleep on the street, inject drugs 24/7 and lead a life of crime to support the habit really superior to losing freedom of movement but otherwise leading a more stable life.
