Police investigate Hamilton white supremacist for posting New Zealand shooter’s manifesto

Hamilton police say they are investigating white supremacist and former Hamilton mayoral candidate Paul Fromm for a possible hate crime after the manifesto written by the man accused of killing 50 people in a mosque in New Zealand was posted to a Fromm-affiliated website.
Fromm also posted a link to the site on Twitter.
“The Hamilton Police Hate Crime Unit is aware of the social media post by Mr. Fromm,” Const. Jerome Stewart said. “We continue to investigate in order to determine if a criminal offence has occurred.”
Stewart declined to comment further because the investigation is active.
Fromm is the director of the Canadian Association for Free Expression (CAFE) and the Canada First Immigration Reform Committee.
The Southern Poverty Law Center, an American civil rights organization that tracks hate groups, describes Fromm’s association as working “against the Canadian Human Rights Commission to defend anti-Semites, racists and Holocaust deniers from persecution under hate crime and human rights legislation.”
Fromm is also a supporter of the local “Yellow Vest” group.

An Ontario man who spent four years fighting for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) languishes in a Syrian prison with his wife and two children and wants the Canadian government to bring them home.
“Why shouldn’t I be able to go home?” he said in an interview with CTV. “I’ve done nothing in Canada. I’ve broken no laws there at all.”
Wrong. Under Section 83.181 of the Criminal Code, anyone who leaves or tries to leave to commit an offence that is indictable in Canada is liable to imprisonment for up to 10 years.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale told the House in 2017 that “the number of returnees is in the order of 60” and said fighters considered a threat are monitored.
